The intake rate of the local Vertisol is very low (0.08 cm/h). Vertical mulch was used from 1971 to 1976 in order to improve infiltration. Higher moisture contents were recorded near the mulch. The favourable effects of mulch extended to 1.5 m on either side of the mulch row. Vertical mulching exerted a greater influence on crop yields under dry conditions than in normal and above normal seasons. Compared with low yields in control plots (grain: 0.2 q/ha (20 kg/ha); straw: 9.5 q/ha (950 kg/ha)) mulches spaced at 2, 4 and 8 m produced 3.9 q/ha of grain and 19.0 q/ha of straw under the extremely dry conditions of 1972–1973. However, the increase in grain and straw yields under wet conditions in 1973–1974 was only 47.2 and 15.0%, respectively. Averaged over dry and wet years, vertical mulching resulted in 45.1 and 37.9% higher grain and straw yields. The favourable effects of vertical mulching were found to last for 4 years. Considering dry and wet years, a spacing of 4 m was found to be ideal. Placing sorghum stubble as a vertical mulch to the top of the salt zone (30 cm) was found to be as good as placing it to a depth of 90 cm.  相似文献

Haploid mutagenesis offers several advantages over conventional (seed) approach. However, its potential has not been utilised for Brassica juncea, an important oilseed. In this study, mutant donor plants of three Indian B. juncea genotypes, generated by ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) and ethyl nitrosourea (ENU), were used for microspore culture. The response of mutant donor plants was about 100 times lower than non-mutant controls; a total of 9,411 embryos were produced from the EMS treated donor plants, while microspores isolated from ENU treated donors did not yield any embryos. The lethality of induced mutations demonstrated itself mainly as the induction of abnormal embryos (80%), failure of germination (70%) and failure of plantlet development (70%). Nine doubled haploid (DH) mutant lines and three non-mutant DH lines obtained through this approach were tested for agronomic and biochemical variation over two growing seasons. High variability was observed and stable mutants were recovered for reduced height (125 vs. 168 cm for the control), appressed pod character, altered fatty acid composition higher protein proportion in de-oiled meal (48%) and a lower glucosinolate content in de-oiled meal (59.5 μM/g) relative to controls. The approach demonstrates that despite severe reduction in efficiency of the DH line production, valuable mutants can be recovered from mutated donor plants.  相似文献

Production of Eruca-Brassica Hybrids by Embryo Rescue   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Allied species of crop Brassicas have potential value as donors of useful nuclear/organelle genomes. Eruca sativa, a member of subtribe Brassicineae, is resistant to white rust and well adapted to drought. Attempts to hybridize it with Brassica campestris by conventional methods were unsuccessful. However, hybrids were obtained by embryo rescue and the hybrid embryos were found to produce numerous secondary embryos in upto 7 to 8 subcultures. Plantlets developed from them exhibited morphological characteristics of both parents. The chromosome number of 2n = 42 showed that they were amphidiploids. The plants were allotctraploids (2n = 42) and showed 21 bivalents at M1 of meiosis. Hybridization of total DNA of the hybrids with two probes, a B. campestris tandem repeat DNA and 18s ribosomal DNA of wheat showed that it was derived from the genome of both parents. The hybrids are self-fertile and show the same high fertility even in A3 generation. They were selfed or crossed with B. juncea, B. campestris and B. nigra to screen for useful agronomical traits. Six more embryos of E. saliva × B. campestris have been obtained and their growth is being studied. Preliminary small scale field trials indicate that the selfed hybrid is comparable in yield with a high yielding commercial variety of B. juncea.  相似文献

Tomato leaf curl disease (ToLCD) affected 25% of the tomato crop in Chitrakoot, India and symptomatic leaves were collected for molecular assay. The complete sequences of bipartite begomovirus DNA-A and a betasatellite DNA were amplified. In a sequence analysis, begomovirus DNA-A and betasatellite shared highest sequence identity (91–99%) with Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus (ToLCNDV) DNA-A and chili leaf curl betasatellite (ChLCB), respectively. The virus was transmitted by whitefly to tomato plants and caused ToLCD symptoms with 70% transmission rate. To our knowledge, this is the first report of the natural occurrence of ToLCNDV and ChLCB in India.  相似文献

In November 2017, two groups of P. conspicillatus pups from separate locations in Far North Queensland presented with neurological signs consistent with Australian bat lyssavirus (ABLV) infection. These pups (n = 11) died over an 11‐day period and were submitted to a government laboratory for testing where ABLV infection was confirmed. Over the next several weeks, additional ABLV cases in flying foxes in Queensland were also detected. Brain tissue from ABLV‐infected flying foxes during this period, as well as archived brain tissue, was selected for next‐generation sequencing. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that the two groups of pups were each infected from single sources. They were likely exposed while in crèche at night as their dams foraged. This study identifies crèche‐age pups at a potentially heightened risk for mass ABLV infection.  相似文献

Some conservation based agroforestry systems (AFS) were developed for possible adoption in place of high risk rainfed farming on land capability classes Ito IV of a typical topo-sequence of foothill north India. The agri-silvi-horticulture system integrating leucaena, lemon, papaya and turmeric on class I irrigated land provided sustainable mean net returns of Rs. 17066 against Rs. 7852 ha.–1 yr.–1 from double cropped agricultural system. The intercropping of cluster beans with leucaena gave the highest net returns of Rs. 3540 ha.–1 yr.–1 in the agri-silvicultural system adopted on class II land. Eucalyptus terettcornis (Smith) in top and Bhabbar grass (Eulaliopsis binata Retz) in the understorey on a sandy loam class III land gave four years (1985–1988) mean air dry grass yield of 4.2 (used for paper pulp) from October and 1.19 t. ha–1 yr.–1 (used for fodder) from June cut. The net returns from grass alone were Rs. 4672 against Rs. 1679 ha.–1 yr.–1 from rainfed field crops raised on an adjoining plot. The returns from trees would be additional. Bhabbar grass raised under Acacia species on a 25 to 30% sloping gravelly class IV land provided yield varying from 2.18 to 4.31 from October cut and 0.50 to 1.1 t. ha.–1 yr.–1 from June cut with 6 years mean of 3.9 t. ha.–1 yr.–1 which at 1988 prices provided net returns of Rs. 2402 ha–1. These AFS proved superior to traditional farming on each land capability class.  相似文献

In a 3-year field study, the effects of substitution of nitrogen requirement of maize through Leucaena leaves were studied on runoff, soil loss, maize and wheat yield and economic returns. The treatments were (1) 80 kg N ha-;1 all through Leucaena leaves (80 L), (2) 40 kg N through Leucaena leaves + 40 kg N ha-;1 through fertilizer (40 L + 40 F), (3) 20 kg N through Leucaena leaves + 60 kg N ha-;1 through fertilizer (20 L + 60 F), (4) 80 kg N ha-;1 all through fertilizer (80 F), and (5) control (No fertilizer). Green Leucaena leaf biomass (containing 3.3% N on dry basis) was incorporated every year in 15 cm top soil two weeks before sowing of summer maize.Other treatments being almost equal, runoff was reduced marginally in treatment 20 L + 60 F which was attributed to better crop growth in this treatment. Mean minimum soil loss (6.202 t ha-;1) also occurred in treatment 20 L + 60 F. Soil loss in 80 L was 13% less than in 80 F. Maize yield was at par in 80 L and 80 F. However, mean maximum yield of maize was obtained with 20 L + 60 F.Residual effect of incorporation of Leucaena leaves to maize crop was observed on wheat yield. The mean yield differences were statistically at par in all the treatments except control. The total mean net returns were statistically at par in 80 L and 80 F. However, significantly higher mean net returns (Rs 6811 ha-;1; one US$ = Rs30) were obtained with 20 L + 60 F. Substitution of N through Leucaena leaves even in small quantity may be helpful to small holders, particularly where chemical fertilizers are in short supply or too expensive.  相似文献

Transfer of factors for resistance to white blister disease caused by Albugo candida between Brassica species involving two genotypes each of B. juncea and B. rapa was studied in hybrids. More hybrids were obtained by in vivo than in vitro techniques, although an in vitro phase was a prerequisite for the establishment of in vivo hybrids. Hybrids were identified by PCR-based inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers with both male and female species-specific bands being identified. There was a positive correlation between disease severity and number of days after sowing ( r  > 0·93), the highest being towards pod formation and plant maturity at 110 days after sowing. The plants from F2 and BC1 progeny showed higher resistance to A. candida than either of the parents. Plants of B. juncea and B. rapa with high field resistance (disease index < 1·0) were selected from BC2 and F2BC1 generations. The frequency of plants classified as resistant in BC2 progeny ranged from 4·5 to 39·0% in cross-combinations involving B. juncea genotypes as female parent, compared with 100% in the reciprocal cross involving B. rapa as female parent.  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted to study different manures and inorganic fertilizers effect on damask rose during 2008–2012. The rose essential oil (EO) was obtained by hydro distillation in Clevenger type apparatus and the components in the rose oil were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Application of 90:80:90 kg nitrogen: phosphorus: potassium (NPK) ha?1 outshine all other treatments and recorded significantly higher flower and oil yield as compared to control. EO yield was also significantly correlated with flower yield plant?1, number of flowers plant,?1 and flower yield ha?1. The higher percentage of citronellol+nerol was obtained by the application of 120:40:90 kg NPK ha?1. Geraniol (26.2%) was maximum when the plants were fertilized with 90:40:90 kg NPK ha?1. Citronellol+nerol/geraniol ratio was also high in fertilized plots. Furthermore, manure application resulted in a marked improvement in chemical properties (pH, percent organic carbon, available N, P, and K) of the soil.  相似文献
