Survival rate, growth and feed intake were determined for late juveniles (4.31 ± 0.18 g) of river prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii in freshwater with total ammonia‐N (NH3‐N+NH4‐N) concentrations of 0.015 (control), 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mg L−1 for 60 days at pH 7.53 ± 0.04 and temperature 24.0 ± 2.5°C. Survival rate was significantly (P<0.05) lower (54 ± 4.2–70 ± 5.4%) for total ammonia concentrations from 0.5 to 1.5 mg L−1 [0.0139–0.0419 mg L−1 of unionized ammonia (NH3)]. Growth (0.026–0.030 g day−1 range) of the prawns did not differ for the different NH3 levels but were significantly (P<0.05) lower compared with control (0.056 g day−1). Feed intake rates also diminished significantly (P<0.05) from 77.60 ± 2.45% at control (0.015 mg L−1 NH3‐N) to 48.69 ± 2.13% at 1.5 mg L−1 NH3‐N (0.0419 mg L−1 of unionized NH3).  相似文献

Here we studied the antiproliferative activity of theaflavins in cervical carcinoma HeLa cells by investigating their effects on cellular microtubules and purified goat brain tubulin. Theaflavins inhibited proliferation of HeLa cells with IC(50) value of 110 ± 2.1 μg/mL (p = < 0.01), caused cell cycle arrest at G(2)/M phase and induced apoptosis with alteration of expression of pro- and antiapoptotic proteins. Along with these antiproliferative activities, theaflavins act as microtubule depolymerizers. Theaflavins disrupted the microtubule network accompanied by alteration of cellular morphology and also decreased the polymeric tubulin mass of the cells. The polymerization of cold treated depolymerized microtubules in HeLa cells was prevented in the presence of theaflavins. In vitro polymerization of purified tubulin into microtubules was also inhibited by theaflavins with an IC(50) value of 78 ± 2.43 μg/mL (P < 0.01). Thus, disruption of cellular microtubule network of HeLa cells through microtubule depolymerization may be one of the possible mechanisms of antiproliferative activity of theaflavins.  相似文献

It is generally believed that the French paradox is related to the consumption of red wine and not other varieties of wine, including white wine or champagne. Some recent studies have indicated that white wine could also be as cardioprotective as red wine. The present investigation compares the cardioprotective abilities of red wine, white wine, and their principal cardioprotective constituents. Different groups of rats were gavaged with red wine, white wine, resveratrol, tyrosol, and hydroxytyrosol. Red wine and its constituent resveratrol and white wine and its constituents tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol all showed different degrees of cardioprotection as evidenced by their abilities to improve postischemic ventricular performance, reduce myocardial infarct size and cardiomyocyte apoptosis, and reduce peroxide formation. It was discovered in this study that although each of the wines and their components increased the enzymatic activities of the mitochondrial complex (I-IV) and citrate synthase, which play very important roles in oxidative phosphorylation and ATP synthesis, some of the groups were more complex-specific in inducing the activity compared to the other groups. Cardioprotective ability was further confirmed by increased expression of phospho-Akt, Bcl-2, eNOS, iNOS, COX-1, COX-2, Trx-1, Trx-2, and HO-1. The results of this study suggest that white wine can provide cardioprotection similar to red wine if it is rich in tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol.  相似文献

Reproductive stage frost poses a major constraint for wheat production in countries such as Australia.However,little progress has been made in identifying key genes to overcome the constraint.In the present study,a severe frost event hit two large-scale field trials consisting of six doubled haploid(DH)wheat populations at reproductive stage(young microspore stage)in Western Australia,leading to the identification of 30 robust frost QTL on 17 chromosomes.The major 18 QTL with the phenotype variation over 9.5%were located on 13 chromosomes including 2 A,2 B,2 D,3 A,4 A,4 B,4 D,5 A,5 D,6 D,7 A,7 B and7 D.Most frost QTL were closely linked to the QTL of anthesis,maturity,Zadok stages as well as linked to anthesis related genes.Out of those,six QTL were repetitively detected on the homologous regions on 2 B,4 B,4 D,5 A,5 D,7 A in more than two populations.Results showed that the frost damage is associated with alleles of Vrn-A1 a,Vrn-D1 a,Rht-B1 b,Rht-D1 b,and the high copy number of Ppd-B1.However,anthesis QTL and anthesis related genes of Vrn-B1 a and Ta FT3-1 B on chromosomes 5 B and 1 B did not lead to frost damage,indicating that these early-flowering phenotype related genes are compatible with frost tolerance and thus can be utilised in breeding.Our results also indicate that wild-type alleles Rht-B1 a and Rht-D1 a can be used when breeding for frost-tolerant varieties without delaying flowering time.  相似文献

Allelopathic interference of Kalmia angustifolia (Ericaceae) to the growth and establishment of black spruce (Picea mariana) has been suggested by several authors. The greenhouse studies suggested that Kalmia has potential for nutrient interference. However, these studies do not eliminate probable involvement of allelopathy. Field studies indicate that soils associated with Kalmia were nutrient-poor particularly for nitrogen, phosphorus, iron, and manganese, and support the hypothesis that Kalmia has dominated microsites that were nutrient-poor prior to its colonization. The questions addressed in this paper are (i) Is Kalmia interference to black spruce growth explained by allelopathy? (ii) Can Kalmia–black spruce allelochemical interactions be better explained by ecosystem-level approach to allelochemicals rather than disturbance-related regeneration ecology of Kalmia? At present, we do not have compelling direct evidence to support allelopathy as a mechanism of Kalmia interference to black spruce. However, organic molecules released from Kalmia into the environment may influence soil mineralization, mycorrhizae, nutrient dynamics, and soil microbial ecology. We hypothesize that synergistic interaction of ecological factors may better explain the interference mechanism of Kalmia.  相似文献

Abstract. Soil microstructures and biological activity were studied in thin sections of Culluna heathland soils subject to periodic burning. Freely drained Brown Podzolic soils from a species-rich heath at Dinnet Muir, Aberdeenshire, Scotland were compared with shallow Humo-ferric Podzols with a thick humus layer (5–10 cm) supporting a species-poor heath at Balmenach, Aberdeenshire.
Structures with greater porosity occurred in all Dinnet soils and the most recently burned Balmenach soil. Burning led to an increase in soil porosity which gradually disappeared after a period of 2–3 years. Soils of the recently burned site had more enchytraeid worms than those burned ten years previously. Most of the Dinnet soil samples were dominated by extremely fine granular structure which could have been produced by flocculation of well decomposed organic matter or by enchytraeid worms. In recently burned sites the increase in soil macro- and microbial activities may lead to the formation of composite structures.
Regular burning every 10–15 years has been the land management practice in Scottish heathlands to ensure the production of fresh browse of nutritious heather shoots for herbivores. The near-ground microclimate and regeneration mechanisms of heathland plants are well adjusted to the periodic disturbance by fire. We found that the gradual decrease in surface soil porosity over time can be restored by prescribed burning. Soil structure and the distribution and continuity of pores in the soil profile directly affect soil water movement and retention. These factors have important ecological implications for post-fire vegetation recovery.  相似文献

A study was undertaken to evaluate the nutritional response of organically grown diets in buffaloes on nutrients utilization and nutrient efficiency for milk production. For this, ten milch Murrah buffaloes of average body weight (490.72?±?6.65 kg), milk yield (8.13?±?0.33 kg), and lactation stage (85?±?5.28 days) were distributed in inorganic (InDg) and organic dietary groups (OrDg) with five animals in each. Buffaloes of InDg and OgDg were fed sorghum hay–berseem fodder-concentrate mixture-based diets grown inorganically and organically, respectively. After 60 days of feeding, a digestion cum metabolism trial was conducted to assess feed intake, nutrient utilization, and N balance, while milk yield and composition were recorded fortnightly. DM, CP, digestible crude protein (DCP), and metabolizable energy (ME) intake (g/Kg w0.75) were similar in animals of InDg and OrDg. NDF, ADF, and hemicellulose digestibility were (P?<?0.05) higher in animals on OrDg (59.20, 51.55, and 62.67) than InDg diet (54.57, 43.72, and 56.61 %), respectively. Urinary n loss (g/day) was (P?<?0.05) lower in OrDg (67.23) than in InDg (83.55); however, milk N was comparable in animals of both dietary groups (47.36 vs 45.82 g/day). Nitrogen balance was higher in animals of OrDg (39.72) than in InDg (28.08). DCP, TDN, and ME values of both diets were similar. No effect of diet was observed on milk yield and its composition; however, increased lactation length decreased milk yield. Buffaloes on both diets had similar efficiency and conversion ratio of nutrients for milk production. Results revealed that diets (organically vs. inorganically grown) have no effect on milk yield and its composition; however, buffaloes on organic diet have higher fiber digestibility and low urinary N loss which did not affect the dietary nutrients efficiency and conversion ratio for milk production.  相似文献

Uniform 2-leaved suckers of dwarf banana ‘Cavendish’ (Musa cavendishii) were treated with 2 doses and 2 frequencies of irrigation as main treatments, and 5 combinations of NPK as sub-treatments. Observations of the plants' response to these treatments were made at the 8th- and 19th-leaf stage. Irrigation at fortnightly or monthly intervals in combination with applications of NPK improved plant morphology. P uptake increased with frequent high irrigation and a high level of P application. With low but frequent irrigation, K and Ca uptake increased with high K application and balanced NPK application, respectively. N uptake with a high application of NPK or N increased at the 8th-leaf stage with frequent irrigation at both levels, and increased at the 19th-leaf stage at low level, less frequent irrigation. The leaves contained the highest quantity of N, followed by the petiole.  相似文献

The short vase life of Acacia holosericea cut stems needs to be improved before they are marketable as cut foliage for floral arrangement. The effects of citric acid, Cu2+ and sucrose were investigated for their efficacy in postharvest treatments to extend vase life of the cut stems. Five experiments were conducted involved combinations of citric acid either with Cu2+ or sucrose. Vase life, relative fresh weight (RFW), and vase solution uptake were measured as indicators of cut stem quality. The effect of Cu2+ alone was shown to be consistently superior in improving vase life by up to 1.9-fold as compared with deionised water control. Citric acid had a smaller effect than Cu2+ and did not act synergistically with Cu2+. Sucrose on its own or in combination with citric acid did not improve vase life significantly; instead sucrose promoted early wilting or desiccation of the cut foliage.  相似文献
