In this study we have investigated the toxicity of soils from thetwo abandoned pyrite mines Ertelien and Konnerud in the southernpart of Norway. Soil samples were collected close to the pitheadof the mines, and earthworms were exposed to different concentrations of the contaminated mine soil mixed with commercial plant soil for a period of 14 days. Life-cycle responses such as growth and survival, as well as the biomarkerresponse lysosomal fragility were measured. The body burdens ofthe four heavy metals Cu, Cd, Zn and Pb were detected in the worms, and the body concentration of the metals generally increased with increasing heavy metal concentration in the soil. The growth and mortality of the earthworms were not influenced when exposed to any of the mine soil concentrations used. The lysosomal fragility of the earthworm coelomocytes measured by the neutral red retention time (NRR-time) was found to be markedly reduced in all the exposed earthworms. This assay seemsto be a sensitive and dose dependent endpoint for the toxicity assessment of heavy metal mixtures in pyrite mine soils. 相似文献

Politics increasingly introduces initiatives supporting a shift toward a bioeconomy aiming at a society relying strongly on renewable biological sources while achieving economic growth efficiently and sustainably. However, the agenda of bioeconomy comprises different “shades of green,” in the sense that different actors stress different aspects of the concept, when embracing it in communication. This conceptual paper aims to present policy and socioeconomic theoretical frameworks and research areas relevant for a more holistic understanding of the bioeconomy concept applied to the forest sector, and identify a core set of potential contributions from social sciences for enhancing the bioeconomy in the forest sector. The paper focuses on studies within policy analysis, economics, and business administration disciplines. Thus it presents diverse disciplinary perspectives on the forest sector in a bioeconomy. Furthermore, innovation and sustainability have been identified as issues relevant to be approached across these disciplines. 相似文献

The stability of soyasaponins in fish feed formulations was investigated. The level of soyasaponin Ab, Bb, Bc, Ba-2,3-dihydro-2,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4-one (Ba-DDMP), Bb-DDMP, and Bc-DDMP was quantified in 15 samples of defatted soybean meal, two full fat soybean meals, and two soybean protein concentrates by reverse phase high-performance liquid chromatography. The total level of saponins in the 15 samples of commercial defatted soybean meal ranged from 4.8-6.8 micromol/g (5.1-7.0 g/kg). The two full fat meals contained 4.4 and 4.7 micromol/g whereas no saponins could be detected in the alcohol-extracted soybean protein concentrates. Fifteen batches of fish feed containing 20% defatted soybean meal were produced by twin-screw extrusion from the 15 different samples of defatted soybean meal. Extrusion did not reduce the total level of group B saponins, but the ratio between DDMP-conjugated group B saponins and non-DDMP-conjugated group B saponins was slightly reduced. A soybean-containing diet was fed to seawater adapted Atlantic salmon for 9 weeks. Yttrium oxide was included in the feed as an inert marker in order to estimate the disappearance of saponins during gut passage. High levels of intact non-DDMP-conjugated group B soyasaponins were found in feces whereas only low levels of DDMP-conjugated saponins could be detected. The overall disappearance of saponins was close to zero, and the concentration of intact saponins in dry feces reached levels several fold higher than dietary levels. The present work demonstrates that non-DDMP-conjugated group B soyasaponins resist extrusion cooking and remain intact during gut passage in Atlantic salmon. The latter is contrary to earlier findings in endothermic animals. 相似文献

In Norway, as in many other European countries, income from forestry has become marginal to owners’ household economies and
most employment of forest-owner households is now undertaken off the property. Also, many forest owners have focused increasingly
on other revenue-earning activities on their properties, such as providing recreational services. It is a challenge in all
kinds of production to find the optimal way of converting inputs into outputs, i.e., to be technically efficient. Extent of financial dependency on income from forestry differs between part-time and full-time forest owners. Since the
two groups have different livelihood strategies, it is plausible that full-time forest owners have more professional forest
management practices. Data for a cross-section of 3,249 active (i.e., harvesting) forest owners were extracted from the 2004
Sample Survey of Agriculture and Forestry representing the year 2003. A stochastic production frontier analysis was applied
to evaluate forest management efficiency impacts of important factors including property and owner characteristics, outfield-related
and agricultural activities, off-property income and geographical location in central or remote areas. It was found that many
forest owners are technically inefficient, and there exist opportunities for improved performance. Off-property income was
found to have an estimated negative impact on technical efficiency, the inefficiency arising (weakly) with increasing share
of household incomes from outfield activities, and properties in urban centred areas are less efficient than those in remote
areas. One policy implication of the study is that a potentially substantial efficiency increase might be achieved from allowing
small inefficient woodlots to merge into larger units of forestry production. Also, providing support for forest management
plans may improve efficiency. 相似文献

Leaching from a wood preservation site in Norway, severely contaminated with copper (Cu), chromium (Cr) and arsenic (As), was investigated using aquatic moss. The objectives were three-fold: (i) study the release of trace metals into a river during a rainfall episode, (ii) determine whether aquatic moss can be used to detect leaching during episodic events when sampling is frequent, and (iii) determine whether aquatic moss can be used as a bioindicator in brackish water. Aquatic moss (Fontinalis antipyretica was transplanted into the river in eight moss-cages. Samples were collected during one episode of rainfall. Concentrations of As in the moss increased during the rainfall event. Cu and Cr concentrations in the moss increased during the beginning of the period, but tended to decrease because of dilution towards the end. Accumulation patterns of Cu, Cr and As in the moss varied probably because of differences in binding affinity to soil and to the moss. The use of F. antipyretica proved that leaching of trace metals do increase during a rainfall event. It was shown that aquatic moss can be used as an indicator to monitor leaching during rainfall events, however, timing of sampling is critical. Although the moss survived in brackish water, it is questioned whether ions in the water can cause competition and desorption of the metals in the moss. 相似文献
