Note on the Control of Olive Fly (Dacus oleae [Gmel.]) by Means of Low and Ultra-low Volume Bait-spraying

In 1967, 1968 and 1969 the efficacy of aerial low volume and ultra-low volume bait-spraying against Dacus oleae (Gmel.) was compared in Greece. Results were mainly assessed by periodical trapping and by post-treatment countings of the percentage of attack in sampled olives. No difference between the effect of the two methods became apparent. It is deemed necessary, however, to repeat the experiments under conditions of heavier infestation.

Studies on rearing and development of the Peach Buprestid,Capnodis tenebrionis L. (Col., Buprestidae).

The composition of a semisynthetic medium for rearing the Peach Buprestid,C. tenebrionis, and the techniques for handling the insects and their eggs in the laboratory are described.

The period required for the biological cycle using this medium and the techniques described are about the same as the required on natural hosts. However the medium is not yet a perfect substitute for the natural food of the larvae and further experiments is carried out at present to reconsider it.

     

Note sur la lutte contre Dacus oleae (Gmel.) au moyen de pulvérisations d'appâts à bas et ultra-bas volume

L'étude des données de trois années de recherches expérimentales (1967, 1968, 1969) sur la lutte préventive aérienne contre Dacus au moyen de pulvérisations d'appâts à ultra-bas volume et de pulvérisations habituelles à bas volume permet de comparer l'efficacité des deux méthodes. L'évaluation effectuée au moyen de méthodes directes et indirectes (répartition des gouttelettes, attaque subie par le fruit de l'olivier, pièges, abattages sur collecteurs) fait ressortir qu'il n'y a pas de différence d'efficacité statistiquement significative entre les deux modes de traitement. Il est estimé opportun de poursuivre des résultats expérimentaux dans des conditions de forte attaque.     

Über eine Massenvermehrung zweier Noctuidae-Arten in griechischen Weinbergen

Widespread infestation of the buds and young shoots of the vine by larvae of the family Noctuidae (Lepidoptera) was observed in the vineyards of southern Greece in the spring of 1977. A preliminary report on this outbreak is given. Two species were identified:Noctua orbona Hufn. andN. fibriata Schreber. The larvae were parasitized byApanteles ruficrus Hal.(Braconidae), Ichneumon sarcitorius L. andAmblyteles armatorius (F.)(Ichneumonidae). This was the first recorded instance of such infestation of the vine in Greece.
