Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic, painful, degenerative and inflammatory disease that affects the synovial joints and leads finally to the loss of mobility. It is highly prevalent in dogs. Nowadays, no cure exists, and the pharmacological treatment is limited to clinical signs alleviation. Some positive beneficial effects have been highlighted with dietary supplements in the course of dog OA. The goals of this narrative review are to summarize the scientific data available in the literature on dietary supplements assessed in dog OA and to discuss some trails about how to improve several aspects of research and issues with dietary supplements, such as bioavailability and dosage regimen. Chondroitin sulphate, glucosamine, undenaturated type II collagen, avocado–soya bean unsaponifiables, curcumin and polyunsaturated fatty acids were studied in dog OA and therefore discussed in the present review. Most of them showed anticatabolic and anti‐inflammatory effects. Unfortunately, few data exist concerning their pharmacokinetics. Their bioavailability is low, but new formulations are developed to enhance their gastrointestinal absorption. The clinical relevance of these new formulations compared to native forms should be demonstrated in good clinical trials. Even if further investigations are needed, dietary supplements should be considered in OA management.  相似文献

Modelling plant growth and architecture requires two consecutive and complementary approaches. The first is a qualitative botanical analysis, in which the development sequence of a tree is studied by the identification of various levels of organisation and of homogeneous subunits. All of these — architectural unit, axis, growth unit — follow particular growth processes which can be described by using the second approach, the quantitative analysis. Modelling of the functioning of meristems based upon stochastic processes has been carried out since 1980, in combination with a large amount of experimental work on temperate and tropical plants. Calculations involved in tree simulations from field data are based upon the probabilistic Monte Carlo method for the topological part and on analytical geometry for the morphological part. Computer graphics methods are then used to visualise the computed plant. Several sectors in agroforestry are concerned with application of such plant architecture modelling: tree growth and yield, radiative transfers, timber quality and mechanics, simulation of competition, interaction between plant morphology and physiology.  相似文献

Abstract. Isozyme patterns (HK, LDH, IDH, MDH, G6PDH) coming from the liver, white muscle and eye tissues of five yellow and five silver eels, Anguilla anguilla L., have been investigated and compared. Yellow and silver eel isoenzyme patterns are generally not different, with the exception of changes concerning the intensity of the first band in the liver HK and the distribution and intensity of the three bands in the eye IDH. The pattern of these two enzymes is weakly modified due to the metamorphosis from the yellow to the silver stage, probably affected by gonadal maturation and environmental factors.  相似文献

Betulinic acid, isolated in substantial amounts from stem barks of five distinct species of Uapaca could be considered as an important chemotaxomic marker of the Uapaca genus. It inhibited Trypanosoma brucei GAPDH with an IC(50) value of 240 microM and has been shown to be a competitive reversible inhibitor (Ki=200+/-10 microM) of this enzyme with respect to its cofactor NAD(+).  相似文献

Polycarpol, sitosterol and sitosterol-3-O-β-D-glucoside isolated for the first time from Piptostigma preussi (Annonaceae) occur regularly in some Annonaceae such as Piptostigma genus. Polycarpol exhibits interesting antitrypanosomal activity with an ED50 value of 5.11 µM on Trypanosoma brucei cells. Moreover, it inhibits T. brucei glycolytic enzymes GAPDH and PFK with IC50 values of 650 and 180 µM respectively.  相似文献
