A 15-y-old castrated male Maine Coon cat was evaluated for an ulcerated soft tissue mass on the right hindlimb that had been observed for 4 mo and had grown rapidly. A 3 × 3 cm soft, raised, amorphous, and ulcerated subcutaneous mass was observed on the lateral right metatarsus. In-house cytology via fine-needle aspiration was nondiagnostic. Incisional biopsy of the mass and further staging was declined, and amputation was elected. The amputated limb was submitted for histopathology, which revealed severe chronic nodular granulomatous dermatitis and multifocal granulomatous popliteal lymphadenitis with large numbers of intralesional fungal hyphae. Fungal PCR and sequencing on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue identified Chalastospora gossypii. No adjunctive therapy was elected at the time. The patient has done well clinically 1 y post-operatively. C. gossypii is a rare microfungus found worldwide and is considered a minor pathogen of several plants. To our knowledge, infection by this fungus has not been reported previously in veterinary species. Features in our case are comparable to other mycotic infections. Nodular granulomatous mycotic dermatitis and cellulitis, although uncommon, should be a differential for soft tissue masses in veterinary species; C. gossypii is a novel isolate. 相似文献
AIM:To investigate the possible protective effect of sequoyitol on type 2 diabetic rats with liver inflammatory lesions. METHODS:Type 2 diabetic rats were induced by feeding high-fat/high-sugar diet and injecting with a low dose of streptozotocin. Sequoyitol at doses of 12.5, 25 and 50 mg·kg-1·d-1 was orally administered in the model rats. At the end of the experiment, the rats were sacrificed. Serum levels of fasting blood glucose, alanine aminotransferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase(AST) and albumin(ALB) were determined. Liver wet was recorded and liver index was calculated. The levels of C-reactive protein(CRP),tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α) and interleukin 6(IL-6) in the liver tissues were also measured. Real-time PCR was used to determine the mRNA expression of TNF-α. In addition, the pathological changes of the liver were observed with HE staining. RESULTS:Compared with the model rats, treatment with sequoyitol obviously decreased the levels of fasting blood glucose, ALT, AST, ALB, CRP, TNF-α and IL-6, reduced the liver index, down-regulated the mRNA expression of TNF-α in the liver, and ameliorated the pathologic changes of the liver. CONCLUSION:Sequoyitol attenuates liver lesions in type 2 diabetic rats through down-regulation of TNF-α and IL-6 expression. 相似文献
Ash decline induced by Hymenoscyphus pseudoalbidus is an emerging disease that severely affects Fraxinus excelsior stands in Europe. There has been an invasive spread of the disease from east to west in Europe over the last decade. Wood discoloration on infected trunks has been reported, but few data are available on the involvement of H. pseudoalbidus in such symptoms. Transport and trade of ash logs could introduce the pathogen into disease‐free areas and therefore accelerate its dissemination. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and severity of H. pseudoalbidus in ash logs in infested areas located in the northeast of France and to clarify the role of secondary pathogens in ash decline. The results showed that prevalence of H. pseudoalbidus on collar lesions was high in the study area. The pathogen was able to produce conidia from infected wood. Thus, export of ash logs could represent a potential risk for spreading the disease. Involvement of Armillaria spp. in the decline process was confirmed, while no Phytophthora‐induced collar lesions were found. Studying both disease prevalence and the age of callus tissues surrounding collar lesions in 60 ash stands enabled the origin of the disease in the study area to be determined. 相似文献
We assessed the prevalence of claw lesions, abnormal claw shapes and lameness in relation to most-recent claw-trimming routines in Norwegian dairy herds housed in tie stalls and free stalls. Equal-sized groups were randomly sampled from both tie and free stalls in each of the three most animal-dense regions in Norway. The study population consisted of 2551 cows of the Norwegian Red breed housed in 54 tie stalls and 52 free stalls. Fourteen educated claw trimmers performed claw trimming and recording of claw lesions once during the spring of 2002. A multivariable model including cluster effects and individual-cow factors was fit for each claw lesion and abnormal claw shape.
In tie-stall herds with routine trimming 39.9% of the cows had one or more lesions or abnormal shapes in front or hind claws versus 52.8% in herds with no routine trimming. Hind-claw results in tie stalls with concrete stall base: herds trimmed occasionally had more haemorrhages of the white line (OR = 2.8) and corkscrewed hind claws (OR = 3.6) versus herds trimmed routinely; herds never trimmed had more heel-horn erosions (OR = 2.6) versus herds trimmed routinely and less haemorrhages of the white line (OR = 0.3) and the sole (OR = 0.2) versus herds trimmed occasionally.
In free-stall herds with routine trimming 76.8% of the cows had one or more lesions or abnormal shapes in front or hind claws versus 68.9% in herds with no routine trimming. Hind-claw results in free stalls with concrete stall base: herds never trimmed had less haemorrhages of the white line (OR = 0.3) and the sole (OR = 0.3) versus herds trimmed routinely; and also less haemorrhages of the white line (OR = 0.3) and white-line fissures (OR = 0.3) versus herds trimmed occasionally. Hind-claw results in free stalls with rubber-mat stall base: herds trimmed occasionally had less heel-horn erosions (OR = 0.5) and more dermatitis (OR = 5.4) versus herds trimmed routinely.
The routine claw trimming performed in Norwegian free stalls has not had the desired effects on claw lesions and abnormal claw shapes. Routine trimming in tie stalls, however, seems to have prevented claw disorders. 相似文献
An accurate image-analysis method was developed to assess quantitatively the spot-like lesions on fruits resulting from pathogen attack. The technique was applied to evaluation of the development and severity of anthracnose of mango fruit, caused by the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides . In this method, a stepper motor rotates the mango fruit along its longitudinal axis while acquiring a sequence of 360 images of its total surface (one image for each degree). This set of images is used to create a pseudocylindrical 'equal-area' projection of the fruit in a two-dimensional map containing complete morphometrical and photometrical information of its surface. The lesion area can easily be evaluated from this map with image-analysis procedures. Quantitative data (percentage of area affected) can be used to establish an assessment scale for the disease based on lesion spots measured, as well as for detailed laboratory studies of mango anthracnose development. The average error of the method is −0·1%, standard deviation 0·44 ( r 2 = 0·99), and it may be adapted for use with most commercial image analysers and for other diseases with spot-like symptoms. 相似文献
Objective To establish which skin diseases occur in crocodiles, particularly those on farms, to indicate the relative frequency of each particular disease and to provide information on pathogenesis, especially in regard to lesions with two or more pathogens present. Design A gross and microscopic retrospective (period of 1989 to 1995) and current (1996 to 1997) examination of skin lesions in crocodiles in Queensland and the Northern Territory. Result Skin lesions were obtained from crocodiles on nine farms, from a group of experimental animals and from one adult found dead in the wild. A total of 203 lesions from 180, mostly young, crocodiles was examined; 119 lesions were from retrospectively examined cases and 84 were recent. The relative frequencies of four presumed primary pathogens in lesions were Dermatophilus s p 28.1 %, fungi 14.8%, poxvirus 3.4% and probable Mycobacterium s p 2.5%. In addition, other bacteria of unknown significance were present in many lesions, and there was one case of presumed Paratrichosoma crocodilus infection. In 32.5% of lesions, multiple pathogens were identified. Conclusion Dermatophilosis is the most common and probably the most important skin disease of crocodiles in Australia, but it is frequently complicated by concurrent infection with fungi or other microorganisms. 相似文献
The relationships between yield loss and incidence (% plants with stems affected) or severity (mean stem score, 0–4 scale) of stem canker in winter oilseed rape were analysed using data from experiments at Rothamsted in 1991/92, Withington in 1992/93, Boxworth in 1993/94 and Rothamsted in 1997/98. Critical point models and area under disease progress curve (AUDPC) models were better than multiple point models for describing relationships between yield (tha–1) and incidence or severity of stem canker for the four experiments. Since yield is influenced by many factors other than disease, % yield loss was calculated and critical point models and AUDPC models relating % yield loss to stem canker were constructed. The critical point models for % yield loss on stem canker incidence for three of the four experiments were similar, but differed from that for Rothamsted in 1991/92. There were also no differences between models of % yield loss on AUDPC of both incidence and severity for these three experiments. Therefore, general models of % yield loss (L) against AUDPC of incidence (X) or severity (S) of stem canker from growth stages 4.8 to 6.4 were derived from the combined data sets for the three experiments: L=–0.76+0.0075X (R2=35%, p<0.001), L=0.26+0.53S (R2=37%, p<0.001). The relationships between % yield loss and % plants with different stem canker severity scores at different growth stages were also analysed; the greatest yield losses were generally associated with the largest severity scores, for plants assessed at the same crop growth stage, and were also associated with the early development of stem lesions. Further analyses showed that % yield loss was related to incidence or severity of both basal stem cankers and upper stem lesions in experiments at Boxworth in 1993/94 and at Rothamsted in 1997/98. 相似文献
Quantification and horizontal distribution of air-borne inoculum ofBotrytis cinerea in a rose crop in a glasshouse of 300 m2 was studied in 1991 and 1992. Conidia ofB. cinerea were caught in spore traps consisting of an agar medium selective forB. cinerea in Petri dishes placed within the crop, at flower height 1 m above the ground. Spore catches were counted as colonies, after incubation. Lesions due to conidial infection were counted on petals of rose flowers, also after incubation. Relative humidity (RH) and temperature within the glasshouse and global radiation and windspeed outside were recorded during the experiments. The horizontal distribution ofB. cinerea in a rose crop grown under glass was fairly uniform in both years. In 1991 a clear seasonal pattern in the number of colonies could not be found. In 1992 the number of colonies were high in August, September and October. The number of lesions on rose flowers showed a distinct pattern in both years. In August, September and October many lesions were counted whereas in the other months few lesions appeared. In linear regression analysis, variation in numbers of colonies (spore catches) could not be explained by environmental factors recorded during the experiments. Linear regression accounted for 76 and 63% of the variation in the number of lesions on rose flowers in 1991 and 1992, in terms of relative humidity (positively correlated), global radiation outside the glasshouse (negatively correlated) and, numbers of colonies on spore traps (positively correlated). The results in the rose crop suggest that RH, global radiation and spore density in glasshouses are important variables in regulating the numbers of lesions during storage and transport. The numbers of spores in glasshouses are dependent on the production system. A glasshouse with a system resulting in wet dead tissue on the ground give higher amount of spores in the glasshouse air and through that high numbers of lesions on flowers. On roses outside the glasshouses very high numbers of lesions were counted sometimes, mostly during and after rain showers, as a result of rain-deposition of spores onto the flowers. 相似文献
