The extent of fat suppression using short tau inversion recovery (STIR) imaging is variable between horses. Our aim was to determine if patient's age and/or hoof temperature have an influence on the T(1) relaxation time of bone marrow in the equine distal limb, thereby affecting the suppression of fat signal. Magnetic resonance imaging was conducted on standing horses and cadaver samples using a low-field magnet (0.27 T). The hoof temperature was measured at the lateral side of the coronary band. A modified inversion recovery fast spin-echo (IR-FSE) sequence was used to measure the signal intensity for a range of inversion times (TIs) at six different regions of interest (ROI): (1) distal aspect of the proximal phalanx, (2) proximal aspect of the middle phalanx, (3) distal aspect of the middle phalanx, (4) navicular bone, (5) proximal aspect of the distal phalanx, and (6) distal aspect of the distal phalanx. The T(1) of the bone marrow in the equine distal limb was calculated from the results and was found to increase by 3.13 ± 0.08 (SE) ms/°C. There was no significant effect of age (2-16 years) but the T(1) values measured from the limbs of young (< 1 year) animals were considerably longer (32.6 ± 1.7 (SE) ms). Similar effects of temperature and age were found for all measured ROIs but there were significant differences in the mean values of T(1) , ranging from +7.7 (distal aspect of the distal phalanx) to -13.2 ms (distal aspect of the proximal phalanx).  相似文献

ObjectiveTo describe the pharmacokinetics of detomidine and yohimbine when administered in combination.Study designRandomized crossover design.AnimalsNine healthy adult horses aged 9 ± 4 years and weighing of 561 ± 56 kg.MethodsThree dose regimens were employed in the current study. 1) 0.03 mg kg?1 detomidine IV (D), 2) 0.2 mg kg?1 yohimbine IV (Y) and 3) 0.03 mg kg?1 detomidine IV followed 15 minutes later by 0.2 mg kg?1 yohimbine IV (DY). Each horse received all three dose regimens with a minimum of 1 week in between subsequent regimens. Blood samples were obtained and plasma analyzed for detomidine and yohimbine concentrations by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Data were analyzed using both non-compartmental and compartmental analysis.ResultsThe maximum measured detomidine concentrations were 76.0 and 129.9 ng mL?1 for the D and DY treatments, respectively. Systemic clearance and volume of distribution of detomidine were not significantly different for either treatment. There was a significant increase in the maximum measured yohimbine plasma concentrations from Y (173.9 ng mL?1) to DY (289.8 ng mL?1). Both the Cl and Vd for yohimbine were significantly less (6.8 mL minute?1 kg?1 (Cl) and 1.7 L kg?1 (Vd)) for the DY as compared to the Y treatments (13.9 mL minute?1 kg?1 (Cl) and 2.7 L kg?1 (Vd)). Plasma concentrations were below the limit of quantitation (0.05 and 0.5 ng mL?1) by 18 hours for both detomidine and yohimbine. Conclusion and clinical relevanceThe Cl and Vd of yohimbine were affected by prior administration of detomidine. The elimination half life of yohimbine remained unaffected when administered subsequent to detomidine. However, the increased plasma concentrations in the presence of detomidine has the potential to cause untoward effects and therefore further studies to assess the physiologic effects of this combination of drugs are warranted.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo evaluate the potency and duration of three subparalyzing doses of vecuronium (VEC) in isoflurane-anesthetized horses.Study designProspective experimental study.AnimalsThirteen healthy adult horses undergoing arthroscopic surgery.MethodsDuring isoflurane anesthesia, horses received one of three doses of vecuronium (25, 50, or 100 μg kg?1). Neuromuscular transmission was monitored with acceleromyography (AMG) with train-of-four (TOF) stimulation of the radial nerve. Maximal depression of the first twitch (T1), and onset time were recorded for each dose. Recovery time to a TOF ratio >90% was also evaluated.ResultsVecuronium 25 μg kg?1 produced no observable T1 depression in four horses. VEC 50 μg kg?1 (n = 5) produced a maximal T1 depression of [median (min, max)] 41 (20, 71) % in four horses, and no neuromuscular block was seen in the fifth. VEC 100 μg kg?1 was given to four horses and produced a T1 depression of 73 (64, 78) %. Of the four horses in which VEC 50 μg kg?1 produced a measurable neuromuscular block, three recovered spontaneously 43 (40, 52) minutes after VEC administration; a fourth subject received edrophonium to reverse residual block at the end of the surgery. Spontaneous recovery after VEC 100 μg kg?1 occurred by 112 minutes in one horse, and had to be facilitated by edrophonium in the remaining three horses, more than 2 hours after VEC had been given. Conclusions and clinical relevanceA dose of 100 μg kg?1 VEC in isoflurane anesthetized horses failed to produce complete paralysis. The partial neuromuscular block lasted at least 2 hours after this dose had been administered. Edrophonium was required to reverse the neuromuscular block in three of four horses. It is likely that more than 100 μg kg?1 VEC would be necessary for complete neuromuscular blockade in horses, and that this dose will last >2 hours.  相似文献

Present study was undertaken to study the prevalence of β-haemolytic streptococci in equine of northern temperate region of Jammu and Kashmir, India. One hundred and forty one samples were collected in duplicate from nasopharyngeal tract of diseased (53) and apparently healthy equine (88) for isolation and direct PCR. A total of 77 isolates of streptococci were recovered from 141 samples with an overall prevalence rate of 54.60%. Out of these 77 isolates, 52 were from diseased and 25 from apparently healthy animals. Of the 77 isolates, 4 were identified as Streptococcus equi subsp. equi, 56 as S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus and 17 as S. dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis. Thus the overall prevalence of S. equi subsp. equi, S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus and S. dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis was 2.83, 39.71 and 12.05% respectively. The sensitivity of the PCR for the detection of S. equi species was found higher when attempted from direct swab samples.  相似文献
