A 9.5‐year‐old, male castrated Walker Hound was presented for evaluation of progressive weakness, anorexia, and weight loss. Imaging revealed multiple abdominal and thoracic masses and ascites; fine‐needle aspirates of mesenteric and splenic masses confirmed malignancy, most likely histiocytic sarcoma. Laboratory analyses revealed increased ionized calcium and parathyroid hormone‐related peptide (PTH‐rP) concentrations, and concurrent low–normal parathyroid hormone concentration, consistent with humoral hypercalcemia of malignancy. Necropsy was performed after euthanasia. The dog had disseminated histiocytic sarcoma, including sarcomatosis, as well as bilateral thyroid carcinoma. PTH‐rP immunostaining was positive in the thyroid carcinoma but negative in the histiocytic neoplasm. These results suggest that thyroid carcinoma‐associated hypercalcemia can be caused by tumor secretion of PTH‐rP. 相似文献

In 2007–2008, a canine distemper virus (CDV) epidemic occurred among wild animals in
Wakayama Prefecture, Japan, and many mammals, including the wild boar and deer, were
infected. In this study, CDV prevalence among wild animals was surveyed before and after
the epidemic. At first, an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with horseradish
peroxidase-conjugated protein A/G was established to detect CDV antibodies in many
mammalian species. This established ELISA was available for testing dogs, raccoons and
raccoon dogs as well as virus-neutralization test. Next, a serological survey of wild
mammalians was conducted, and it was indicated that many wild mammalians, particularly
raccoons, were infected with CDV during the epidemic, but few were infected before and
after the epidemic. On the other hand, many raccoon dogs died during the epidemic, but CDV
remained prevalent in the remaining population, and a small epidemic occurred in raccoon
dogs in 2012–2013. These results indicated that the epidemic of 2007–2008 may have been

In the present study, we compare a new carbon dioxide (CO2) absorbent, Yabashi lime® with a conventional CO2 absorbent, Sodasorb® as a control CO2 absorbent for Compound A (CA) and Carbon monoxide (CO) productions. Four dogs were anesthetized with sevoflurane. Each dog was anesthetized with four preparations, Yabashi lime® with high or low-flow rate of oxygen and control CO2 absorbent with high or low-flow rate. CA and CO concentrations in the anesthetic circuit, canister temperature and carbooxyhemoglobin (COHb) concentration in the blood were measured. Yabashi lime® did not produce CA. Control CO2 absorbent generated CA, and its concentration was significantly higher in low-flow rate than a high-flow rate. CO was generated only in low-flow rate groups, but there was no significance between Yabashi lime® groups and control CO2 absorbent groups. However,
the CO concentration in the circuit could not be detected (≤5ppm), and no change was found in COHb level. Canister temperature was significantly higher in low-flow rate groups than high-flow rate groups. Furthermore, in low-flow rate groups, the lower layer of canister temperature in control CO2 absorbent group was significantly higher than Yabashi lime® group. CA and CO productions are thought to be related to the composition of CO2 absorbent, flow rate and canister temperature. Though CO concentration is equal, it might be safer to use Yabashi lime® with sevoflurane anesthesia in dogs than conventional CO2 absorbent at the point of CA production. 相似文献

This study was performed to evaluate changes in intraocular pressure (IOP) during
standard coaxial phacoemulsification using 4 different bottle heights (BHs) and 2
different incision sizes. Coaxial phacoemulsification was performed with a venturi-based
machine in 8 enucleated canine eyes through 3.0 and 3.2 mm clear corneal incisions (CCIs).
A pressure transducer inserted in the peripheral cornea monitored the IOP in real-time.
The surgery was subdivided into 4 stages: sculpt-segment removal, irrigation/aspiration,
capsular polishing and viscoelastic removal. The mean IOP and the difference between the
maximum and minimum IOPs were calculated at each stage and compared. The ultrasound time
and volume of irrigation fluid used were recorded. The mean IOP increased with an
elevation in the BH. The mean IOP in the irrigation/aspiration stage was significantly
higher than that in the sculpt-segment removal stage at the same BH. The difference
between the maximum and minimum IOP at each stage was greater in the 3.2 mm than the 3.0
mm CCIs, although the mean IOP was lower with the 3.2 mm than the 3.0 mm CCIs. The
ultrasound time and irrigation fluid volume were greater with the 3.2 mm than the 3.0 mm
CCIs. Therefore, fluidic parameters during each stage could be reassessed and adjusted to
reduce complications arising from an elevated IOP. Phacoemulsification with 3.0 mm CCIs at
a lower BH might lead to less stress on the eye from IOP fluctuations, ultrasound energy

Fifty-five samples (15.62%) collected from dogs and cats were identified as canine
parvovirus (CPV) infection in Beijing during 2010–2013. The nucleotide identities and aa
similarities were 98.2–100% and 97.7–100%, respectively, when compared with the reference
isolates. Also, several synonymous and non-synonymous mutations were also recorded for the
first time. New CPV-2a was dominant, accounting for 90.90% of the samples. Two of the 16
samples collected from cats were identified as new CPV-2a (12.5%), showing nucleotide
identities of 100% with those from dogs. Twelve samples (15.78%) collected from completely
immunized dogs were found to be new CPV-2a, which means CPV-2 vaccines may not provide

Choroid plexus tumor (CPT) is a primary intracranial neoplasm of the choroid plexus epithelium in the central nervous system. In the current World Health Organization classification, CPT is classified into two categories; choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) and carcinoma (CPC). In the present study, we investigated immunohistochemical expressions of N-cadherin, E-cadherin and β-catenin in 5 canine CPT cases (1 disseminated CPC, 2 CPCs and 2 CPPs). One CPP case was positive for N-cadherin and β-catenin, but negative for E-cadherin. The disseminated CPC case was positive for E-cadherin and β-catenin, but negative for N-cadherin. The other cases were positive for the three molecules examined. These results suggest that loss of the N-cadherin expression might associate with the spreading of CPC cells. 相似文献
