A polyphenol-rich extract from the seeds of fenugreek was evaluated for its protective effect against hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)-induced oxidation in normal and diabetic human erythrocytes (RBCs). RBCs, preincubated with increasing amounts of fenugreek seed extract and challenged with H2O2, were analyzed for hemolysis and lipid peroxidation. RBCs from diabetic subjects were more susceptible to oxidative hemolysis and lipid peroxidation than those from normal subjects. However preincubation with the polyphenol-rich extract significantly reduced the oxidative modifications in both the groups. The inhibition of lipid peroxidation was concentration-dependent up to 100 l of extract, which contained 0.75mM gallic acid equivalent (GAE) of phenolic compounds. These findings demonstrate the potent antioxidant properties of the fenugreek seeds. 相似文献

diol (PCL), dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA), ethylene diamine (EDA), and triethylamine (TEA), NaOH, or Cu(COOCH3)2 as neutralizing agent. This study was performed to decide the effect of neutralizing agent type on the particle size, viscosity,
hydrogen bonding index, adhesive strength, antistaticity, antibacterial and mechanical properties. The particle size of the
dispersions decreased in the following order: TEA based samples (T-sample), NaOH based samples(N-sample), and Cu(COOCH3)2 based sample (C-sample). The viscosity of the dispersions increased in the order of C-sample, N-sample, and T-sample. Metal
salt based film samples (N and C-sample) had much higher antistaticity than TEA based sample. By infrared spectroscopy, it
was found that the hydrogen bonding index (or fraction) of samples decreased in the order of T-sample, N-sample, and C-sample.
The adhesive strength and tensile modulus/strength decreased in the order of T-sample, N-sample, and C-sample. The C-sample

To develop strategies to manage Fusarium wilt of Hiemalis begonias (Begonia×Hiemalis), caused by Fusarium foetens, studies were conducted to understand how the disease might be spread in the greenhouse. Inoculum density studies showed that as few as 100 conidial ml−1 were sufficient to cause significant disease indicating that shared irrigation systems need strict sanitation along with bench tops, pots, and trays. The role of fungus gnats (Bradysia spp.) in vectoring F. foetens within a greenhouse was studied using nylon tent cages with diseased and healthy Hiemalis begonias. Fungus gnats were released into half of the cages. In cages where fungus gnats were present only healthy plants became diseased, indicating the effectiveness of fungus gnats in spreading Fusarium wilt. The pathogen was also isolated from adult fungus gnats. In vitro studies showed that two commercially available H2O2-based compounds, ZeroTol® (2.0% peroxyacetic acid and 27.0% hydrogen peroxide), and SaniDate® (12.0% peroxyacetic acid and 18.5% hydrogen peroxide), were effective in causing 100% spore mortality at rates that would allow their use in irrigation water. Seven cultivars of Hiemalis begonias (Begonia×Hiemalis) grown in soil infested with F. foetens were highly susceptible. No other Begonia species showed typical symptoms of chlorosis and wilt, but two cultivars of Rex begonia (Begonia rex) exhibited significant stunting in repeated trials. 相似文献

Flooding/waterlogging is a major factor responsible for hypoxic stress in agriculture. The aim of this study was to develop an effective oxygen buffer with magnesium peroxide (MgO2) to generate hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and release bioavailable oxygen. MgO2 provided a relatively stable level (approx. 300 µM) of bioavailable oxygen. The oxygen‐buffer system is adjustable and controllable by adding Mg2+ or EDTA to the aqueous system. Regular H2O2 was also able to provide bioavailable oxygen but the system was poorly buffered with respect to oxygen release. The accessibility of plants to bioavailable oxygen was indicated by the activity of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADHase, EC 1.1.1.1), an anaerobically induced enzyme of flooded plants. The application of MgO2 to flooded soil reduced ADHase activity in corn‐root tips by 91.3%. This application of MgO2 presents a novel pathway to significantly (P < 5%) minimize adverse impacts of hypoxia on flooded corn seedlings. This finding may have broad implications for addressing hypoxicity problems in crop science and technology. 相似文献

Hydrogen peroxide has been the only medicine used to treat salmon infected with sea lice [Lepeophtheirus salmonis (Krøyer)] on many farms in Scotland since 1992 and reports have suggested reduced treatment efficacy. The present study tests the sensitivity of sea lice to exposure to hydrogen peroxide under farm conditions and also in vivo by comparing lice from a farm with suspected resistance and lice from a farm that had not been pre‐exposed to hydrogen peroxide. In bin treatments on fish from a farm treated with hydrogen peroxide on 41 occasions, numbers of ovigerous lice declined by only 15% and 16% in two replicates and other mobile stages by 25%. Where hydrogen peroxide had not been used, ovigerous females declined by 90% and 87% and other mobile lice stages by 97% and 99%. These trials and observed poor efficacy of cage treatments, for example only 7.5% reduction in lice numbers when fish were treated with 2000 p.p.m. for 20 mins, indicated resistance of lice to hydrogen peroxide. The mechanisms involved in the development of resistance, possible genetic selection for lice with reduced carapace permeability or detoxifying enzymes such as catalase, or tolerance through induction by subtherapeutic exposure are reviewed. Implications for lice control strategies relying on hydrogen peroxide are discussed. 相似文献

为探讨氧化应激对鲤抗氧化状态和免疫功能的影响,本实验以H_2O_2作为活性氧自由基(ROS),将鲤暴露于不同浓度的H_2O_2(0、0.25、0.50和1.00 mmol/L)中,诱导鲤产生氧化应激反应。连续暴露7 d后,采集鲤血液和肝组织,以检测相关生化指标以及基因表达量的变化。结果显示,与空白对照组(0 mmol/L)相比,随着H_2O_2浓度的升高,血清葡萄糖(GLU)、皮质醇(cortisol)和乳酸(LA)含量显著升高;而碱性磷酸酶(AKP)和酸性磷酸酶(ACP)活性仅在1.00 mmol/L H_2O_2处理组中显著高于其他实验组。氧化应激参数显示,与空白对照组(0 mmol/L)相比,0.50和1.00 mmol/L H2O2处理显著降低血清过氧化氢酶(CAT)活性,而提高还原型谷胱甘肽(GSH)、丙二醛(MDA)和总抗氧化能力(T-AOC)水平;在肝脏组织中,1.00 mmol/L H_2O_2处理显著降低了GSH含量,促进了MDA生成。基因表达结果显示,与空白对照组相比,1.00 mmol/L H2O2处理组显著上调了肝脏组织中cyp1a表达,而下调了cyp1b表达;同时0.50和1.00 mmol/L H2O2处理显著上调了hsp70、hsp90、c3、c-lyz和hep的表达。研究表明,氧化应激暴露可诱导鲤产生明显应激反应和脂质过氧化,降低机体抗氧化能力并激发免疫应答反应。 相似文献

研究温度、光照时间对辣木油抗氧化稳定性的影响,以此选择合理的保存方式。用石油醚浸出法制成辣木油试样,以过氧化值(POV)为试验指标,采用Sehaal烘箱法和室内自然光照射法进行试验,测定不同温度和不同受热、光照时间下的POV值并计算氧化诱导时间。结果表明:不同受热时间下测得的POV值之间的差异性不显著,而不同光照时间的POV值则具有显著性差异,说明辣木油对温度比较稳定,但对光照则相反,光照时间越长抗氧化的稳定性就越差,光照氧化诱导时间仅为3.5 d。提示了辣木油应在20℃左右保存并特别注意避光,在此条件下的货架期可达304 d。 相似文献

针对燃烧加热地面试验设备存在的工质污染问题,采用数值模拟方法研究了燃烧加热污染空气对氢燃料超燃冲压发动机性能的影响。以飞行马赫数Ma=6.5,当量油气比ER=0.6为计算基准状态,分别对纯净空气和污染空气来流下氢燃料超燃冲压发动机的整机流场和性能进行了对比计算分析。燃烧化学反应模拟采用了改进的H2/O2七组分八方程模型,湍流模型为标准的 k-ε模型,并采用直连式燃烧室试验数据进行了数值方法的验证。研究结果表明:(1)相对于纯净空气来流,污染空气来流下的超燃冲压发动机推力和比冲均有所下降。(2)采用酒精燃烧加热器的前提下,来流参数匹配静温、静压、马赫数时,发动机性能与纯净空气来流下的结果最为接近,而匹配总温、总压、马赫数时相差最大。(3)来流参数匹配总焓、静压、马赫数的前提下,采用氢燃烧加热器时发动机性能与纯净空气来流下的结果最为接近,而采用甲烷燃烧加热器时相差最大。 相似文献
