Using a multi-dimensional ecological design, this study aimed first to analyse whether local environmental conditions can account for the spatial segregation of two Italian native decapods, the crayfish Austropotamobius italicus and the river crab Potamon fluviatile, in Central Italy freshwater ecosystems. Second, we aimed to analyse which environmental variables were more closely associated with the presence/absence of the two decapods in specific sites within their distribution area. Following a factorial design, a total of 32 sites were selected in two neighbouring geographic areas, one occupied by crayfish and one by crabs. Within each distribution area, eight streams where the decapod was present and eight where it was not present were selected. At each site, macro-invertebrate community composition and 16 abiotic variables were recorded and analysed with multi-variate methods. Variations in physical (minimum and maximum temperatures), chemical (calcium, oxygen, nitrate and nitrite) and geomorphological (substrate composition) parameters explained spatial segregation of P. fluviatile and A. italicus in the study area. The occurrence of crayfish reflected variations of chemistry (such as pH, calcium, nitrate and nitrite concentrations), temperature, water depth and substrate composition. On the contrary, the presence of the river crab, within its occurrence zone, was not associated to any biotic and abiotic parameters and was probably affected by anthropogenic pressure and uncontrolled harvesting. These findings provide fundamental ecological data for the maintenance of the two decapod natural populations as well as for the selection of areas and streams adequate for their reintroduction. 相似文献

Two experiments were conducted on the effects of bronopol in the artificial incubation of crayfish eggs (Pacifastacus leniusculus) with the aim to search an alternative to formaldehyde. In the first experiment, 50, 250, 500 and 1000 ppm bronopol and 3000 ppm formaldehyde (control) in periodical administrations were tested on a density of 6.6 eggs cm?2. After 44 days of incubation, the highest survival was obtained with 1000 ppm bronopol (81.9% to stage 2 juvenile, with no significant difference from formaldehyde), whereas lower bronopol concentrations resulted in significantly lower survival. In the second experiment, 1000, 3000 and 5000 ppm bronopol and 3000 ppm formaldehyde (control) administered for 15 min every second day were tested on eggs at a density of 20 eggs cm?2. After 78 days of incubation, bronopol at 3000 ppm allowed for a stage 2 juvenile survival rate of 65.0% (with no significant difference from formaldehyde), whereas significantly lower survival was obtained with 1000 ppm or 5000 ppm. This study shows that bronopol may constitute an alternative to formaldehyde in the artificial incubation of crayfish eggs. A concentration of 3000 ppm administered for 15 min every second day may be adequate even on long incubations at high densities (at least 20 eggs cm?2, one complete layer). 相似文献

The velocity of burrowA was 0 cm/s and that of burrow B was varied andset at 0 cm/s, 5 cm/s, 10 cm/s,20 cm/s and 30 cm/s. The selectionof these two burrows by C. japonicus was observed. No animalsselected burrow B significantly more than burrow A above 10 cm/s.At 20 cm/s, some crayfishes were swept away andcould not return to burrows because of the high water velocity.At 30 cm/s, most animals were swept away. Effects of DDT-type compounds including 1,1-bis(para-substituted phenyl)-2,2-dichlorocyclopropanes (DCC-series compounds) on sodium currents in crayfish giant axons were measured under voltage-clamp conditions. Variations in the activity to prolong the tail-current that was observed upon step repolarization of the membrane were quantitatively analysed by use of physicochemical parameters of aromatic substituents and regression analysis. Introduction of lengthy and narrow substituents was favourable to the activity. Variations in the activity were parabolically related to the hydrophobicity, optimum value being around that of H. DDT- and prolan-series compounds were 2–3 times more active than DCC-series compounds when other structural factors were the same. Insecticidal activity of the compounds was linearly correlated with the tail-current activity when the hydrophobic factor was separately considered. The insecticidal activity of DDT-series compounds was 2·5 times higher than that of others when the other factors were the same. © 1997 SCI. 相似文献

The influence of dietary protein/lipid levels on growth and survival in juvenile crayfish (Procambarus acanthophorus) was evaluated during a 12‐week nutritional trial. Twenty experimental diets were formulated containing different protein (200, 250, 300, 350 and 400 g kg?1) and lipid (60, 80, 100 and 120 g kg?1) levels. A bifactorial model (5 × 4) was used with three replicates and 15 crayfish (0.014±0.006 g) per replicate, in a recirculation system with 60–15 L rectangular tanks and a biological filter, the culture conditions were a photoperiod of 12:12 h L:D and temperature 24.7±1.0 °C. Total survival ranged from 66.6% to 86.6%, with no differences attributed to treatments. Dietary protein levels had a significant effect on growth gain and nutritional efficiency; in contrast, lipid levels had no effect on juvenile performance. The 250/120 (protein/lipid) treatment promoted the most efficient growth (final weight: 3.09 g, weight gain: 21 995%, specific growth rate: 3.35% day?1); the less efficient growth was observed in juveniles fed with 400 g kg?1 protein diets. The quadratic regression model indicated 279 g kg?1 as the optimal protein level for crayfish growth, while levels between 211 and 232 g kg?1 could minimize the feeding costs without affecting growth. 相似文献

One strategy for protecting the federally listed fountain darter, Etheostoma fonticola (Jordan & Gilbert), during low flow conditions is the removal of piscine carnivores [in this case, largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides (Lacepède)]. However, headwater spring communities of the Comal and San Marcos rivers include another potential predator [red swamp crayfish, Procambarus clarkii (Girard)]. Removal of piscine carnivores could produce cascading effects by increasing crayfish consumption of benthic fish. The purpose of this study was to evaluate if piscine carnivore removal will lessen predatory pressure or induce a trophic cascade with crayfish increasing and causing declines in fountain darter. The numbers of fountain darter consumed were quantified among three predator treatments (red swamp crayfish only, largemouth bass only and red swamp crayfish and largemouth bass combined) and vegetation treatments (vegetated and non‐vegetated) at three temperature regimes (18, 22, 27°C). Vegetation had no effect on fountain darter predation. Among temperature trials, largemouth bass only and red swamp crayfish and largemouth bass combined consumed similar numbers of fountain darter, and red swamp crayfish only consumed the least numbers of fountain darter, except at 22°C. Largemouth bass did not consume more red swamp crayfish than fountain darter. Therefore, largemouth bass removal appears to be a viable option for reducing fountain darter predation during periods of low flow. 相似文献

目的明确淫羊藿提取物对红螯螯虾生长性能的影响并对其安全性进行评价。方法将150尾健康红螯螯虾随机分为5组:空白对照组, 淫羊藿提取物临床推荐剂量1倍、3倍、5倍和10倍给药组。4个不同剂量给药组饲料中分别添加0.1%、0.3%、0.5%、1.0%淫羊藿提取物, 每组设3个平行, 每个平行10尾, 分箱饲养。混饲给药7 d, 观察临床症状, 测定红螯螯虾形态学参数、血液生理生化指标以及肝胰腺指数。结果与空白对照组比较, 淫羊藿提取物在临床推荐剂量10倍范围内, 对红螯螯虾增重率、特定生长率、肥满度均无显著(P>0.05)影响;1倍和3倍临床推荐剂量的淫羊藿提取物能极显著(P<0.01)提高红螯螯虾血细胞总数, 极显著(P<0.01)降低血清谷丙转氨酶(ALT)活性, 极显著(P<0.01)提高总蛋白(TP)水平;1 倍临床推荐剂量的淫羊藿提取物能显著(P<0.05)降低大颗粒细胞比例。各剂量给药组红螯螯虾血清TG、BUN、T-CHO水平以及肝胰腺指数与空白对照组比较均无显著(P>0.05)差异, 肝胰腺组织学结构均正常。结论淫羊藿提取物在临床推荐剂量的3倍量范围内连续给药7 d, 对靶动物红螯螯虾是安全的。 相似文献

The aim of this study was to quantify the importance of population density on the growth and survival of juvenile red swamp crayfish, Procambarus clarkii (Girard), and to understand the effects of density on both the period between moults and the increment per moult at high densities without food limitation. A laboratory experiment was performed to determine growth and survival of juvenile crayfish at five densities (20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 crayfish m?2). Density clearly affected crayfish growth. The impact of density on final weight was higher than on total length increase, growth rate and final length (FL) (by decreasing order of effect). When comparing minimum and maximum densities, we observed that FL suffered a 34% reduction. Number of moults, mean intermoult period (IP) and survival were not significantly affected by density. Our results indicated that the IP and the percentage of increment per moult are affected by the size of crayfish before moult and we provide equations for these relations. Our findings are relevant both for crayfish aquaculture management and for the management of wild or harvested rice‐field crayfish populations. 相似文献
