Surgical reconstruction of a severely comminuted mandibular fracture in a horse

A Palomino gelding presented for evaluation of a mandibular fracture and physical examination revealed swelling and excoriation of the skin over the ventral mandible. Upon further examination, malalignment of the incisors was appreciated in addition to instability and crepitance of both the rostral aspect and vertical ramus of the mandible. Radiographic examination revealed a comminuted fracture within the interdental space and fractures of both vertical ramii of the mandible. Under general anaesthesia via tracheotomy intubation, the fractures of the vertical ramii were reduced and compression plating techniques used along the caudal‐lateral border of both ramii for stabilisation. Intraoral tension band wires were used for repair of the interdental space fracture. A type II external skeletal fixator using Steinmann pins and polymethyl methacrylate connecting bars was applied to increase stability. The horse was maintained on broad spectrum antibiotics and phenylbutazone and discharged following 6 days of hospitalisation. Radiographs were taken 10 weeks after surgery and revealed evidence of adequate healing. On follow‐up 20 months later, the horse was reported to have no difficulties eating and was maintaining its bodyweight. This case is unique due to the severity of the mandibular fracture. The authors are unaware of any previous reports of such a severely comminuted mandibular fracture and its successful reconstruction employing multiple surgical techniques.     

外加碳源对SBR法处理生活污水的影响研究

以生活污水为试验对象,通过投加不同种类及不同浓度的外加碳源研究了其对SBR法脱氮除磷效果的影响。结果表明：外加碳源能大大提高SBR法对氮、磷的去除率。投加葡萄糖、甲醇之后,总氮的去除率最高值分别为65．0％、56．0％,啤酒废水可使总氮去除率稳定的提高;投加外加碳源后,总磷去除效果啤酒废水最佳,其次是甲醇,再次是葡萄糖。同时啤酒废水来源广泛、价格低廉,因此啤酒废水是外加碳源的最佳选择。     

Palliative radiation therapy in a dog with malignant trichoepithelioma

An 11-year-old male Bearded Collie was brought to the Gifu University Animal Medical Centre with a skin mass on the lateral right thigh. Physical examination revealed a 30 × 65-mm oval mass with an alopecic and ulcerated surface. Histopathology of the surgically excised sample confirmed malignant trichoepithelioma. Five months after the surgery, the dog experienced lumbar pain resulting from metastasis to the lumbar vertebrae. Radiation therapy (RT) was performed and it alleviated the lumbar pain. Nine months after the surgery, multiple skin metastases were identified. RT was performed at each occurrence, which reduced the size of each tumour and resulted in a partial response; however, systemic metastasis occurred and the dog died 17 months after the initial surgery. Canine malignant trichoepithelioma is a rare tumour, so an effective treatment has not been determined. Data from our case study indicate that RT has potential for pain control of primary and metastatic malignant trichoepithelioma.     

Temporary regression of locally invasive polypoid rhinosinusitis in a dog after photodynamic therapy

A 5‐year‐old male cross‐breed dog with chronic rhinosinusitis was presented. Computed tomography (CT) revealed opacities consistent with soft tissue or fluid in the left nasal cavity and frontal sinus. A diagnosis of chronic rhinosinusitis with myxomatous polyps was based on the histology of biopsy samples, so prednisolone treatment was administered for 1 month. Although the clinical signs slightly improved, no changes were observed on the CT images. At 8 months after the initial presentation, the dog was treated with antivascular photodynamic therapy (PDT) using benzoporphyrin derivative monoacid ring A and, 11 days later, CT revealed remarkably decreased soft tissue opacity; the facial swelling and sneezing also resolved. Three additional sessions of PDT were performed at 114, 210, and 303 days after the first PDT because of recurrence of clinical signs. The disease was well controlled for approximately 10 months by antivascular PDT.

围绕集体林权制度改革五大内容之一的林业发展金融服务改革的概念和内容,结合对陕西省富县和西乡县的实地调查,分析了陕西省林业发展金融服务改革中开展的各种措施和工作及其对林农营林活动的内外部因素和不可控与可控因素两方面的影响。最后从不同主体的角度指出陕西省林业发展金融服务改革中存在的问题并提出建议。     

管道自动焊装备发展现状及前景展望

随着高钢级、大口径、大壁厚管道的建设,以及对油气管道运行安全和环境保护要求的日益提高,传统的手工焊和半自动焊已不能满足施工质量和效率的要求,自动焊技术开始大面积推广应用。自动焊技术是基于坡口、组对、焊接于一体的管道施工技术,采用液压传动技术、机械制造技术、自动控制技术结合焊接工艺,完成现场管口的焊接任务,其焊接质量和焊接效率的稳定性在流水施工作业过程中优势明显。系统介绍了自动焊技术特点,阐述了国内外管道坡口机、内焊机、外焊机以及自动焊技术的发展现状,并对未来自动焊装备的发展趋势进行了展望。     

辽西朝阳地区影响文冠果嫁接成活因素分析

针对嫁接人和天气条件对嫁接成活效果的影响,对朝阳地区种植的文冠果嫁接成活率进行调查分析。结果表明:不同嫁接人嫁接成活率差异达极显著水平,嫁接成活率最高的达到了86.8%。不同嫁接天气的嫁接成活率之间差异达到极显著水平,阴天无风嫁接成活率最高,为82.0%。嫁接技术好的人员在无风阴凉的天气进行嫁接更利于成活。     

Prothrombin, activated partial thromboplastin, and proteins induced by vitamin K absence or antagonists clotting times in 20 hyperthyroid cats before and after methimazole treatment

The effect of daily doses of 5-15 mg of methimazole on the platelet count, prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), and proteins induced by vitamin K absence or antagonists (PIVKA) clotting time in 20 hyperthyroid cats was determined. No significant (P > .05) difference was found in median platelet count. PT, APTT, or PIVKA clotting time before treatment compared to median values at 2-6 weeks or > or =7-12 weeks of methimazole treatment. No cat had a prolonged APTT at any time. At 2-6 weeks of methimazole treatment, 1 cat each developed thrombocytopenia or prolonged PIVKA clotting time despite initially normal values. Three cats had abnormal coagulation tests (prolonged PT [n = 1] and PIVKA clotting time [n = 3]) before treatment that fluctuated during treatment. Excluding the 3 cats that had abnormal PIVKA clotting time before treatment, prolonged PIVKA clotting time developed in 6% (1/17; 95% confidence interval, 0-28%) cats treated with methimazole for 2-6 weeks. Seemingly. doses of methimazole commonly used to treat hyperthyroidism in cats do not cause alteration in PT and APTT, and only rarely prolong PIVKA clotting time. Nevertheless, abnormal PIVKA clotting time may explain bleeding tendencies unassociated with thrombocytopenia in methimazole-treated hyperthyroid cats.     

Canine hemangiosarcoma treated with standard chemotherapy and minocycline

Standard treatments for canine hemangiosarcoma include surgery and chemotherapy with doxorubicin, but in spite of treatment most dogs with this disease die within 6 months of diagnosis. Tumor growth and metastasis are angiogenesis dependent. Antiangiogenic drugs such as minocycline may provide therapeutic benefits in cancer patients. The purpose of this prospective study was to evaluate the efficacy of chemotherapy with doxorubicin and minocycline, an antiangiogenic agent, in dogs with hemangiosarcoma. Eighteen dogs with histologically confirmed hemangiosarcoma of any stage were treated with doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, and minocycline. Complete staging was performed before and during the treatment period to assess remission status and response to therapy. No statistically significant difference was found in survival between the dogs treated with chemotherapy and minocycline, and historical controls consisting of dogs that received chemotherapy alone. Postmortem examination revealed widespread metastasis, suggesting that minocycline is ineffective as a single antiangiogenic agent in canine hemangiosarcoma.
