In this study, two new alternative preys: Grapsus adscensionis zoeae (as sole prey) and Palaemon elegans zoeae (in cofeeding with Artemia sp.), as well as, Artemia sp. juveniles were used as feed for octopus paralarvae, as a way to understand its lipid requirements. Total lipid (TL) content, lipid class (LC) and fatty acid (FA) profiles of preys, octopus hatchlings and 9‐day‐old paralarvae were analysed. Growth and survival of the paralarvae were also determined. Regardless the prey provided, a notable shift in the lipid profile of paralarvae was registered after 9 days of rearing. The highest index of growth rate (IGR) recorded when decapod crustacean zoeae were supplied might have some relation with levels of 20:4n‐6 (ARA) and DHA/EPA ratio observed. In this sense, Grapsus adscensionis zoeae leaded to a higher content of ARA and a lower content of EPA, which may indicate a possible competition between these two FA. For that a balanced EPA/ARA ratio might be significant in this species nutrition without disconsidering DHA levels as an essential fatty acid. Finally, the changes observed in paralarvae FA profile might not only be related to prey FA profile, but also with changes occurring in the lipid classes contents.  相似文献

The swimming crab (Portunus trituberculatus) is an economically important species in Asian aquaculture. Implementing growth‐related traits of P. trituberculatus into genetic breeding programmes is an ongoing effort. We used a previously published genetic linkage map of P. trituberculatus, containing 55 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers and 172 amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) techniques to map quantitative trait loci (QTL) for growth‐related traits in a single full sibling F2 family. Ten growth‐related traits were measured for QTL mapping. Composite interval mapping identified 9 QTL on the female map and 16 on the male map. Individual QTL with additive effects explained 11–38% of the phenotypic variance for various traits using the female parent's map, and from 1% to 21% using the male parent's map. Two QTL explaining a large percentage of variation in body weight were detected on chromosome 17 on the female map, and on chromosome 16 on the male map, and contributed 38% and 18% of the phenotypic variance respectively. This is the first study to report the detection and positioning of major QTL affecting growth in a true crab species (Brachyura). The mapping of growth‐related QTL in this study raises the possibility of improving the growth of P. trituberculatus through marker‐assisted selection.  相似文献

The effects of a 21 day infestation with the ectoparasite Argulus foliaceus on the response of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss to an acute stressor (confinement) were investigated. Fish were divided into a control and two parasitized groups, with one parasitized group having received cortisol feeding 72 and 24 h before infection. Prior to confinement only control fish showed a significant increase in body mass and condition factor. Following 4 h confinement, plasma glucose levels in the normal- fed/infested group were significantly higher than in the controls, while the cortisol-fed/infested group had significantly lower plasma levels of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and glucose. Both infested groups, but not controls, had higher plasma ACTH and cortisol levels 48 h after confinement when compared with their pre-confinement levels. Stressor-induced immunomodulation was more evident in the parasitized fish after confinement, as was concluded from decreased lysozyme activity, alternative complement activity and oxygen radical production either immediately after, or 48 h post 4 h confinement. Circulating lymphocyte numbers were significantly reduced in the control and normal-fed/infested fish. Results indicate that low ectoparasitic infestations can, for a prolonged period, lead to a stress experience with effects that impair the response to subsequent stressors. Such effects may be further confounded by a previous elevation of plasma cortisol levels.  相似文献

Chitin is among the most important components of the crustacean cuticular exoskeleton and intestinal peritrophic matrix. With the progress of genomics and sequencing technology, a large number of gene sequences related to chitin metabolism have been deposited in the GenBank database in recent years. Here, we summarized the genes and pathways associated with the biosynthesis and degradation of chitins in crustaceans based on genomic analyses. We found that chitin biosynthesis genes typically occur in single or two copies, whereas chitin degradation genes are all multiple copies. Moreover, the chitinase genes are significantly expanded in most crustacean genomes. The gene structure and expression pattern of these genes are similar to those of insects, albeit with some specific characteristics. Additionally, the potential applications of the chitin metabolism genes in molting regulation and immune defense, as well as industrial chitin degradation and production, are also summarized in this review.  相似文献

Triops cancriformis (Bosc 1801), a branchiopodcrustacean, is restricted to a single known site in the BritishIsles. The reasons for its rarity and decline in Britain are notfully understood. A captive population has been established and aTriops Conservation Group formed to co-ordinate the conservationof T. cancriformis and to research the reasons for its decline.Particular attention is given to reproductive biology, ecologyand in-situ conservation as these are important factors in bothaquarium husbandry and ex-situ conservation. The factors governing the hatchability of eggs are varied and complex but onceestablished in captivity, husbandry appears to present fewproblems. Data from stock assessment surveys, published research and climate sensors were linked to model the interaction between fishing, physical‐oceanographic processes and spatial patterns of larval settlement for western king prawn [Penaeus (Melicertus) latisulcatus]. This information was used to evaluate the trade‐off between larval recruitment and catch during fishing periods that demand high prices but coincide with spawning. Total rates of larval settlement were maximized when tidal currents and atmospheric physical‐forcing components were coupled with simulations of larval swimming behaviour under average gulf temperatures. Average gulf temperatures sustained longer larval durations and increased larval settlement rates by over 12% compared with warmer gulf conditions simulated under a scenario of global warming. Reproductive data coupled with outputs from the biophysical model identified consistent inter‐annual patterns in the areas contributing to larval settlement success. Areas located in the north‐east, and central‐west of the fishery, consistently contributed to over 40% of all larvae reaching a settlement in each year. Harvest sensitivity analyses indicated that changes in the spatial patterns of pre‐Christmas fishing could lead to improvements in overall rates of the larval settlement while maintaining or improving the levels of catch. Future studies to refine the model inputs relating to physical processes, larval behaviour and mortality rates for P. latisulcatus coupled with surveys of juvenile prawn abundance to ground truth the modelled predictions, would allow stock recruitment relationships to be more closely examined and inform adaptive management of the fishery in the future.  相似文献

Tilapia are the second most farmed fish worldwide and their production has quadrupled over the past decade due to ease of aquaculture, marketability and stable market prices. Tilapia aquaculture must adopt sustainable practices (such as polyculture) for continuing increased production and improved sustainability. This article reviews tilapia polyculture around the world and discusses its benefits, strategies and practices. Tilapia polyculture improves feed utilization, enhances water quality, increases total yield and profit. Further investment will increase these gains. Research on tilapia polyculture in China was also summarized and addressed that polyculture in semi‐intensive systems was a way of improving sustainability for tilapia aquaculture.  相似文献

We conducted large‐scale production trials in Seward, Alaska, USA to investigate effects of dietary astaxanthin supplementation on survival, growth and shell colouration of recently settled juvenile (C1–C4) red king crabs (Paralithodes camtschaticus). We supplemented a control diet of commercial crustacean feeds with astaxanthin, and fed these diets to juvenile king crabs at densities of 2000 and 4000 crabs m?2 for 56 days. We assessed survival and growth by counting crabs and individually measuring carapace width and weighing crabs at the start and end of the experiment, and quantified crab colour (hue, saturation, brightness) in digital photographs. Diets containing astaxanthin had higher survival, suggesting that astaxanthin may provide nutritional or immune system benefits. Crabs had lower hue, higher saturation and lower brightness values when fed diets containing astaxanthin, suggesting that red king crab colouration is plastic and responds to diet. Astaxanthin is likely an important dietary component for hatchery or laboratory reared red king crab juveniles, and should be considered for aquaculture and other rearing of this and possibly other crustacean species.  相似文献

The trade of live Cancer pagurus in Portugal is totally dependent on imports, mainly from UK. Animals are transported for 48–58 h in conditions that promote high mortalities (40–60%) due to cumulative stressors. The present work aimed to optimize transport, by comparing the physiological responses of edible crab during different simulated live shipment systems for 48 h and recovery conditions: (a) immersed crabs at 12°C; and (b) air‐exposed crabs at 4°C and subsequent recovery at 16°C with and without pre‐acclimation. Both simulated transport systems induced physiological stress, culminating in 25% mortality in immersed conditions and only 4% in air‐exposed conditions. Both systems elicited anaerobic responses marked by hyperglycaemia and increased l ‐lactate concentration in haemolymph. At the end of the recovery period only air‐exposed animals resumed to l ‐lactate and pH control values, the lowest mortality was achieved with crabs acclimated at the lowest temperature (from 6 to 16°C at 1.5°C/h). Overall, results showed that crabs can be transported in air‐exposed conditions at 4°C and acclimated from 6 to 16°C and reach similar physiological conditions than the traditional transport in immersed conditions at 12°C.  相似文献
