Throughfall (TF), stemflow (SF), soil solution below the organic layer (SSorg) and at 50 cm depth (SS50), and output with stream water (SW) were measured and analyzed for four years in a moderately polluted forest catchment in southern Poland. The input of water with stemflow was ca. 6% of input with TF. However, due to higher concentrations of most ions in SF, the input of most elements with SF was from 8% to 9%. Sulphate (SO4
2–), chloride (Cl–) and magnesium (Mg2+) were the only ions steadily increasing in concentrations in water percolating through the soil profile. Nitrogen reached the forest floor mainly as ammonium (NH4
+). In the soil organic layer the NH4
+ concentration decreased, while concentrations of nitrate (NO3
–) and hydrogen (H+) increased, probably due to nitrification. For NO3
–, sodium (Na+) and calcium (Ca2+), the highest concentrations were found in SSorg and SW. This indicates both efficient cycling in the biotic pool of the ecosystem and intensive weathering processes in the mineral soil below the plant rooting zone. The latter was especially pronounced for Mg and Ca. Concentrations of zinc (Zn), lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) were the highest in SSorg and SS50. As this was accompanied by a low pH and constant input of H+, NH4

Long-term integrated catchment monitoring within the Swedish Environmental Monitoring Programme (PMK) aims primarely at the fate and effects of pollutants in mature ecosystems, mainly protected boreal forests. The measurements that were conducted since the early eighties, with some variation, included deposition, throughfall, litterfall and the chemistry of soil water, groundwater and runoff water.Together with, or perhaps partly due to acidification, accumulation and transport of heavy metals are a serious threat to the ecosystem and in the end to the health of human beings. This paper discuss the behaviour of Hg, Pb, Cd, Zn and Cu based on the experiece gained from the studies in the small catchment areas. The importance of present deposition, soil storage and biogeochemical condition for metal mobility to the transport of metals is discussed The storages of Hg and Pb have been built up during a long time span and are very large in comparison with the flux. The present atmospheric deposition have probably little impact on the flux, which rather is governed by the biogeochemical conditions. There is still a small accumulation of Cd, but its great mobility under acidic conditions makes input and output almost in balance. A reduction in deposition will probably have an immediate effect on flux, which also is the case for Zn. Cu generally accumulates in soil. The mobility and hence the flux are certainly regulated by the biogeochemical conditions, but more detailed studies are required to reveal the general mecanisms for Cu transport within the catchment. 相似文献

The effect of supplementary
irrigation with catchment rainfall on crop yield increment and its water use efficiency
was studied on upland field with different cropping patterns to make full use of the
natural rainfall. The results showed that the crop yield and water use efficiency was
increased significantly after 45 mm~90 mm supplementary irrigation, as compared with no
irrigation. The optimum total amounts of supplementary irrigation for all three cropping
patterns were 90 mm. The optimum amounts and periods of irrigation for mono-cultured wheat
were 8mm before sowing and 82 mm at its boot stage, those for film-covered mono-cultured
were 90mm at its big horn stage, and those for multipled cropping wheat and film-covered
corn were 4mm before wheat sowing and 19 mm both at jointing and boot stages, and 24 mm
both at jointing and big horn stages of corn. The results were suitable for northern

采用大田随机区组试验法,研究了不同施肥水平下全膜双垄沟播玉米土壤有机质、全氮、全磷、碱解氮和速效磷的动态变化情况。结果表明:整个玉米生育时期0~20cm土层各处理的土壤有机质、全氮、全磷、碱解氮和速效磷变化趋势与20~40cm土层基本一致。土壤有机质和碱解氮含量随着玉米生育时期的推进而不断降低,且分别在抽雄期和灌浆期达到最低值,成熟期有机质和碱解氮含量又略有回升。全磷含量从苗期到成熟期逐渐降低。全氮和速效磷含量在玉米生长前期不断增加,且分别在抽雄期和拔节期达到最大值,之后随着生育期的推进而不断降低。两个土层的土壤养分含量存在着明显的垂直递减规律。西北干旱半干旱地区全膜双垄沟播玉米种植密度确定为6.75×104株/hm-2时,最佳施肥量为纯N 210kg/hm2、P2O5168kg/hm2。 相似文献

Background, aims, and scope Embankment of meandering river systems in many industrial areas results in the formation of artificial oxbow lakes that may
act as perennial or intermittent traps for river sediments. Their deposits can be dated using a combination of historical
and stratigraphic data, providing a good means to study historical records of contamination transported by rivers. Contamination
history over the last few decades is of special significance for Central and Eastern Europe as it can reflect high pollutant
levels in the second half of the twentieth century and the subsequent improvement after the fall of the Iron Curtain. The
purpose of this study was to investigate recent sediments of an oxbow lake of the Morava River, Czech Republic, their stratigraphic
records, sediment architecture, and history of contamination.
Materials and methods Seven ground-penetrating radar (GPR) profiles and three sediment cores up to 4 m deep were studied. The stratigraphy of the
cores was inferred from visible-light spectrophotometry, X-ray radiography, grain size analysis, and semiquantitative modal
analysis of sandy fractions. The sediments were dated using the 137Cs mass activity and combinations of stratigraphic and historical data. The cores were sampled for concentrations of heavy
metals and persistent organic pollutants. Wet sampled, lyophilized, and sieved sediments were extracted and analyzed for heavy
metals by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) of aqua regia leachate and for persistent organic pollutants
by gas chromatography (GC-ECD and GC-MS).
Results Three distinct sedimentary sequences (S1, S2, and S3) were identified. The basal sequence S1 represents river channel sediments
deposited before the formation of the oxbow lake, most likely before the 1930s. The boundary between the S1 and S2 sequence
correlates with the level of sediment dredging from 1981 evidenced from historical data. The overlying sequences S2 and S3
represent a postdredging sediment wedge, which progrades into the lake. 137Cs dating revealed a distinct Chernobyl 1986 peak at ∼150 cm depth inferring sedimentation rates up to 7.7 cm/year. Sediment
contamination abruptly increased from the pre-1930s deposits to the post-1981 deposits. The concentration levels increased
two to five times for Pb, As, Zn, and Cu, about 10 to 15 times for Cr, Sb, and Hg, up to 34 times for Cd, and 25 to 67 times
for DDTs, PCBs, and PAHs. The concentrations of most contaminants remained approximately constant until the late 1980s when
they started to decrease slowly. The decreasing trends were most prominent for heavy metals and anthracene, less prominent
for DDTs, and almost absent for PCBs and most PAHs.
Discussion Different temporal and spatial patterns for various contaminants make it possible to distinguish between anthropogenic point
sources from local industry (anthracene, Cr, Cd), possible diffuse sources (most PAHs), and geological background (V, Co,
Ni, and Mo). The observed recent trends in heavy metal and persistent organic pollutant contamination are generally consistent
with data from other Central European rivers. The roughly balanced contamination levels in sediments from the lake and the
adjacent river channel suggest that the oxbow lake deposits reflect immediate levels of the contamination bound to suspended
particulate matter passing through the river.
Conclusions The investigated oxbow lake accumulated suspended sediment from Morava River, developing a thick sedimentary body. The sediments
offer a good time framework to study historical contamination of the river on a decade time scale. Continuous contamination
trends can be traced back to the early 1980s. The results show that stratigraphic analysis of cores has a good potential for
identification of uninterrupted historical trends and unconformities, e.g., due to dredging.
Recommendations and perspectives Oxbow lakes may provide an alternative to floodplains and reservoir deposits when studying river contamination history. High
sedimentation rates of up to 7.7 cm/year offer a very good stratigraphic resolution, making it possible to study contamination
patterns on annual or even seasonal time scales. On the other hand, oxbow lakes may represent long-term contamination stores,
which are unlikely to be redistributed by river erosion and, hence, may possess significant environmental risks for the farther

The strongly incised mountain landscape of northern Thailand has changed dramatically during the last few decades due to increased population pressure, agricultural commercialization, limitation to use old fallows and reforestation of upper catchments. The traditional shifting cultivation with fallow periods of 7 years and longer was gradually replaced by 1 to 4 year fallow periods. As a result, in high population areas the landscape became dominated by fields planted to rainfed upland crops, wetland rice terraces, fallow vegetation, and patches of secondary forest. This new land-use system seems to have triggered new land degradation processes that are easy to observe when travelling through this landscape. 相似文献

The losses in soil nutrients (nitrogen (N), available phosphorus (Pav), organic carbon (OC), potassium (K), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg)) in the catchment and the storage in the reservoir as a result of sediment delivery were assessed in 13 catchments/reservoirs in Tigray, Northern Ethiopia. This specifically dealt with factors controlling the losses, the fertility status of the deposited sediment, the nutrient export (NE) rates and associated costs. Enrichment ratio (ER) values >1 were observed for the plant nutrients and the finer soil fractions. The high ER is associated with the preferential transport of nutrients bound to finer soil fractions and the parent material dissolution and its transport via runoff. However, the fertility status of the deposited sediment is not sufficient by itself to support a sustainable crop growth and hence external addition is necessary, mainly for N and Pav fertilizer. Generally, rates of NE were high. The high OC export on the other hand dictates the potential of reservoir sediments for OC sequestration. The cost price of loss of only N and Pav, eroded from the catchment slopes, was estimated at €34·2 million (Euros) in March 2006 for the Tigray. Pity enough, policy makers and beneficiaries do not realize the magnitude of the problem, which forms a major threat for the crop production in the country.
