Chemical analysis of the Indonesian sponge Plakortis cfr. lita afforded two new analogues of the potent trypanocidal agent manadoperoxide B (1), namely 12-isomanadoperoxide B (2) and manadoperoxidic acid B (3). These compounds were isolated along with a new short chain dicarboxylate monoester (4), bearing some interesting relationships with the polyketide endoperoxides found in this sponge. Some semi-synthetic analogues of manadoperoxide B (6–8) were prepared and evaluated for antitrypanosomal activity and cytotoxicity. These studies revealed crucial structure–activity relationships that should be taken into account in the design of optimized and simplified endoperoxyketal trypanocidal agents.  相似文献

Detection of DNA polymorphism in cultivated pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan) and two of its wild relatives Cajanus volubilis and Rhynchosia bracteata is reported here for the first time using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) fingerprinting. For this purpose, two EcoRI (three selective nucleotides) and 14 MseI (three selective nucleotides) primers were used. The two wild species shared only 7.15% bands with the pigeonpea cultivars, whereas 86.71% common bands were seen among cultivars. Similarly, 62.08% bands were polymorphic between C. volubilis and pigeonpea cultivars in comparison to 63.33% polymorphic bands between R. bracteata and pigeonpea cultivars, and 13.28% polymorphic bands among pigeonpea cultivars. The cluster analysis revealed low polymorphism among pigeonpea cultivars and very high polymorphism between cultivated pigeonpea and its wild relatives. The AFLP analysis also indicated that only one primer combination (EcoRI + ACT and MseI + CTG), at the most any four primer pair combinations, are sufficient for obtaining reliable estimation of genetic diversity in closely related cultivars like pigeonpea material analyzed herein. AFLP analysis may prove to be a useful tool for molecular characterization of pigeonpea cultivars and its wild relatives and for possible use in genome mapping.  相似文献

Mycorrhizal fungi play a critical role in nutrient cycling and ecosystem function. They improve plant growth and survival through a mutualistic relationship in which photosynthates are exchanged for increased access to water and nutrients. Because the benefits realized are not equal among different plant–fungal species combinations, mycorrhizal fungi may help govern plant community structure and successional trajectories. In fact, both plant productivity and plant diversity have been shown to increase with increasing diversity of mycorrhizal fungi. The diversity and species composition of plant communities also exert a reciprocal influence on associated mycorrhizal communities, although edaphic factors may also play a role. Given this inherent bi-directionality of mycorrhizal relationships, the potential exists for positive feedback mechanisms which may promote and maintain both plant and mycorrhizal fungal diversity. This review considers recent literature on both arbuscular and ectomycorrhizal fungal–plant community relationships within a variety of environments, including artificially constructed systems and naturally occurring grasslands and forests.  相似文献

Thirty two accessions of periwinkle Catharanthus roseus collected from different semitemperate to tropical geographical areas of Indian subcontinent, Madagascar, Singapore and Malaysia were characterized under field conditions for 53 growth, development, morphogenesis and alkaloid yield related characters over a few seasons at Lucknow, India. Large differences were observed among the accessions for each of the characters examined. The differences among the accessions ranged 3, 80 and 15 fold for the alkaloid yield related traits – leaf dry matter yield and leaf vincristine and vinblastine concentration, respectively. Strong correlations were observed between leaf area and leaf yield with leaf alkaloid, root and root alkaloid yields, contents of dimeric alkaloid in leaves with yields of respective alkaloids, leaf number and root alkaloid content with leaf vinblastine yield and leaf vinblastine content with leaf vincristine and vinblastine yields. Multi-variate analyses allowed classification of the accessions into 5 to 7 morphologically and presumably genetically distinct groups. Generally, the accessions coming from tropical agro-climates tended to get separated from those having origins in subtropical to semi-temperate environments. Three clusters were observed to bear complementary characters for possibly cross-parenting high alkaloid yielding transgressive segregants. One of the accessions of C. roseus in which the leaf vincristine content was 5 fold and vinblastine content one and a half fold of the respective all accession means appeared suitable for the domesticated cultivation. It was proposed that accumulation of high amounts of total alkaloids and one or more dimeric alkaloids in leaves of certain accessions may be a reflection of reproductive fitness achieved under the biotic and abiotic stresses imposed on their parent populations, sometime in their evolutionary pathway.  相似文献

Forest managers require an understanding of how vertebrate species respond and persist within the dynamics of changing forest environments so that management strategies can retain and recruit structural aspects necessary for the persistence of populations. Species-habitat models are often used to understand these relationships and are subsequently used to manage landscapes. We tested several species-habitat models to predict the presence or absence of a range of vertebrate species (n = 55) and to determine the potential of using vertical and horizontal measures of forest structure as a surrogate of species occurrence. We validated models with temporally and spatially independent data. Some of the models had good predictive accuracy that was retained when validated and thus have application in terms of implementation as management tools. Modelling success varied, however, depending on whether plot or stand data were used. Many models included variables related to spatial relationships of structures. Few models were reliable when applied to independent data; therefore, our results indicate that models cannot be assumed to be applicable in different years or applied outside the area where the model was developed, even with similar spatial and temporal contexts. Overall, we did not find robust relationships necessary to guide management targets for retention and recruitment of specific forest structures. Therefore, using these habitat models as surrogates for monitoring species occurrence is limited. Monitoring aspects of habitat should still be included as part of biodiversity monitoring programs because preservation of structures known to be negatively affected by harvesting (e.g., dead wood, large trees, closed canopies, continuous forests) contributes to local and landscape heterogeneity and has been shown to affect species presence in this study and others.  相似文献

The aims of this study were to assess the linear relationships between agronomic and nutritional traits and identify promising traits for indirect selection in transgenic genotypes of maize. Eighteen transgenic maize genotypes were assessed in randomized blocks with three replications. The agronomic (number of days from sowing until male flowering, number of days from sowing until female flowering, plant height, ear insertion height and grain yield) and nutritional (crude protein, ether extract, crude fiber, starch and amylose) traits were measured. Analysis of variance was run for each of the 10 traits and phenotypic and genotypic correlation coefficient matrices estimated. Ridge path analysis were performed the nutritional traits were treated as main variable (dependent) and agronomic traits as explanatory variables (independents). The number of days from sowing until female flowering has a positive linear relationship to crude protein, ether extract and starch. Plant height has a positive linear relationship to crude fiber. Ear height has a positive linear relationship to amylose. Grain yield has a positive linear relationship to starch. The number of days from sowing until male flowering, plant height, ear height and grain yield can be used indirect selection in maize.  相似文献

I assessed the direct influence of earthworm excretions, and the impact of earthworms through their action on the soil structure (increased macroporosity), on the population dynamics of the collembolan species Heteromurus nitidus. The intestinal content of Collembola arising from cultures on different soil types was observed, and two experimental cultures of H. nitidus were run: (1) a culture performed on an inert substrate supplied either with earthworm casts or with soil as food resource, (2) an experiment using microcosms with cores of two humus forms (moder and calcic mull), in the presence or absence of earthworms. The observation of gut contents revealed that H. nitidus feeds on excrements, the composition of which (ratio organic matter/mineral matter) varies according to the humus form where it lived. Slightly aged (10–15 days) organo-mineral casts of earthworms appeared to be a better food than calcic mull aggregates or organic material from moder. Densities of H. nitidus cultured in cores of calcic mull were higher than in moder, except when cores of moder were inhabited by an anecic earthworm for 2 months. The humus form strongly influenced populations of H. nitidus, firstly because densities of predators were higher in moder than in calcic mull, and probably also because of soil macroporosity. It was concluded that earthworms would affect predation on H. nitidus by creating a network of interconnected macropores in which Collembola can move and find shelter.  相似文献
