We studied the mesofaunal arthropod diversity in a shrub mangrove in the Punta Sur area within the National Park Reefs of Cozumel Island in the South of Mexico. Two mangrove areas were selected for sampling, dominated by Rhizophora mangle and Avicennia nitida, respectively. Four sampling periods, two during the dry season and two during the rainy season, and 25 random litter samples of litter (225 cm2) per site and date led to a total of 200 samples. Spatial and temporal variation of arthropod diversity was analyzed at the order/suborder level. A total of 90,680 arthropods belonging to 30 taxa were recorded during the study, Oribatida being most abundant with 61.8%, followed by springtails (14%). Densities of arthropods were higher in the rainy season than in the dry season, showing a strong positive correlation with humidity. Highest abundance was found in the R. mangle mangrove in the rainy season, and highest diversity was found in the A. nitida mangrove in the dry season. Seasonal distribution of litter fauna in two mangroves are related with the particular characteristics shown in each one.  相似文献

Data on the number of macrochaetae of the main segments (Th. II–Abd. IV) of the body in 76 species of Folsomia are summarised. Only thoracic tergites II—III show variation in number of macrochaetae, as the conditions 1,1, 2,2 and 1,2 were found in the material studied. The last variation was seen in three groups of species, and has probably been derived independently.  相似文献

The distribution pattern and diversity of Collembola communities in the soils of low and high intertidal saltmarshes were compared. The intertidal “mud” soils are colonized by Collembola to depth of 30 cm and at a distance of 10 m towards the sea from coastal edge. The communities of Collembola in low intertidal saltmarsh soils are dominated by a population of Archisotoma sp. The contents of organic matter in the intertidal saltmarsh soils influenced the distribution of Archisotoma sp.  相似文献

Effects of a sulfonylurea herbicide on soil microarthropods   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
The short-term effects on soil microarthropods of the herbicide triasulfuron, belonging to the chemical class of sulfonylureas, were evaluated in two fields which had never been treated with sulfonylureas, and were cultivated with winter wheat. In particular, the effects of single applications at rates corresponding to two- (rate 2) and sixfold (rate 6) the recommended agricultural rate (7.5 g active ingredient ha–1) were analysed and compared with controls. The changes in the populations of the main groups of microarthropods were evaluated. Rate 2 had very low effects, whereas rate 6 produced a significant decrease in the number of microarthropods, Acarina and Collembola in the surface soil layer (0–7.5 cm). The Collembola were analysed at the species level. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences only for a few species, and only after treatment with the highest rate of triasulfuron. Finally, the results of the field tests were compared to those of laboratory tests carried out previously, which examined the effects of the same herbicide on a collembolan species. Stable isotope analysis has been used as a powerful tool in food web studies in terrestrial ecosystems. In addition the occurrence and abundance of fatty acids may serve as indicator for feeding strategies of soil animals. Here we combine both approaches and investigate the fatty acid composition, δ13C values of bulk tissues and individual fatty acids in soil organisms. The fungi Chaetomium globosum and Cladosporium cladosporioides were isotopically labelled by fructose derived from either C3 or C4 plants, and the fungal-feeding nematode Aphelenchoides sp. was reared on C. globosum. Fungi and nematodes were used as diet for the Collembolan Protaphorura fimata. The sugar source was fractionated differently by fungal lipid metabolism in a species-specific manner that points to a sensitivity of physiological processing to the non-random distribution of 13C/12C isotopes in the molecule. As a general trend stearic acid (18:0) was depleted in 13C compared to the precursor palmitic acid (16:0), whereas its desaturation to oleic acid (18:1 ω9) favoured the 13C-rich substrate.Fatty acid profiles of P. fimata varied due to food source, indicating incorporation of dietary fatty acids into Collembolan tissue. Individuals feeding on fungi had lower amounts in C20 fatty acids, with monoenoic C20 forms not present. This pattern likely separates primary consumers (fungivores) from predators (nematode feeders). The isotopic discrimination in 13C for bulk Collembola ranged between −2.6 and 1.4‰ and was dependent on fungal species and C3/C4 system, suggesting differences at metabolic branch points and/or isotope discrimination of enzymes. Comparison of δ13C values in individual fatty acids between consumer and diet generally showed depletion (i.e. de novo synthesis) or no changes (i.e. dietary routing), but the fractionation was not uniform and affected by the type of ingested food. Fatty acid carbon isotopes were more variable than those of bulk tissues, likely due to both the distrimination by enzymes and the different lipid origin (i.e. neutral or polar fraction).  相似文献

This experiment was a part of a research on the soil community in anthropogenous birch stands in Finland. In that study it was found that communities of Collembola are similar in birch stands of different origin (cultivated field or spruce forest), while the communities of Oribatida are essentially different. When compared to original spruce forest, the communities of both groups are different.Cultivation eliminates the populations of most microarthropod species, that have to disperse after reforestation from the surrounding areas. The aim of the experiment was to study the ambulatory dispersal of soil microarthropods. It was carried out in plastic boxes filled with an intact block of defaunated surface soil taken from a birch stand that was established ca. 30 years earlier on a cultivated field. A strip of intact spruce forest soil was placed at one end of the boxes to harbour the source populations. At the opposite end we placed a row of pitfall traps. Soil samples were taken every two weeks at increasing distances from the source soil using a metal corer, and animals were extracted in a high gradient apparatus. The pitfalls were also emptied every two weeks. The experiment lasted for ten weeks.Pitfall and soil sample data gave an estimation of the maximum dispersal rate for each species or genus. The distance that the populations could potentially disperse in 30 years (age of the stand) indicated that some, but not all of the species could have actively migrated to the central parts of the birch stand (30 m).  相似文献

The monoculture cropping system causes significant changes within the soil ecosystem, which constitutes a habitat for soil-dwelling springtails. Focusing on the response of soil fauna to 90 years of potato cultivation in monoculture the study investigates the abundance and diversity of soil-dwelling springtails, considering changes in the soil environment in relation to five-crop rotation. Another point was the soil quality evaluation using Collembola as bioindicators (QBS-c index). A long-term monoculture experiment was established in Poland in 1923 and has continued uninterruptedly to the present time. Soil samples were taken over a period of three years (2011–2013) to determine collembolan abundance and composition, as well as physical and chemical soil properties.

The study demonstrated that there were greater numbers of Collembola in the long-term monoculture of potatoes, especially before planting time, compared to numbers in a five-field crop rotation. At the same time apparently greater species diversity was found in potato culture within crop rotation. The biological indicator of soil quality based on the occurrence of springtails (QBS-c) has proved useful in assessing changes in soil caused by agrotechnical activities. This index indicated better biological soil quality in the five-field rotation system compared to monoculture.  相似文献

Summary The functional roles of the fungivorous collembolan Tomocerus minor and the detritivorous isopod Philoscia muscorum during the decomposition of Pinus nigra needles were studied in mesocosms filled with two different types of F1 litter, obtained from two different forest soils. The effects of the animals on the availability of K+, Ca2+, NO inf3 sup- , NH inf4 sup+ , and PO inf4 sup3- and on the respiration, dehydrogenase, and cellulase activity of microorganisms were measured over one growing season. The animals were introduced into the F1 litter in three densities. The most important animal effect was a buffering effect, in that addition of the animals increased nutrient availability and microbial activity where the corresponding values in control mesocosms without animals were low, and decreased the nutrient availability and microbial activity where control values were high. This effect occurred for both species and was most evident in the substrate with the highest temporal fluctuations. The effects on nutrient availability are attributed to an animal effect on the activity of and successional stage reached the microbial community, with NH inf4 sup+ availability seen as the most important factor. The concept of functional groups in relation to these animal effects is discussed.  相似文献

The principal objective of the study was to assess factors of primary importance for collembolan community variability measured in riparian forest stands of different age after traditional clear cutting within natural and altered hydrologic regimes. The study was conducted in the Ukrainian part of the Latorica river floodplain where the largest stands of the highly protected medio-European Querco—Ulmetum minoris fluvial forests can be found. Six oak forest stands were investigated on the river floodplain: three in a natural section (inside levee) of the floodplain, which have their original features preserved with periodical inundation, and three in a section separated by a flood control embankment (outside levee) and subjected to serious damage by drainage. In each section the three stands sampled were represented by different ages regenerated with clear-cutting (>3 years, >8 years and >112 years).Differences in hydrologic regimes were central to identification of a predictable and explainable percentage of variation in species composition of Collembola communities in fluvial forests. The hydrologic regime factor was correlated with the basic structural attributes of collembolan communities, such as abundance, species richness and some ecological traits. Season accounted for a higher degree of variation in collembolan communities than did the age of forest stands. We conclude that differences in hydrologic regime are of much higher importance in structuring collembolan communities in riparian forests than are the ages of stands.  相似文献

Soil faunal communities are often phylogenetically diverse and the accurate assessment of the taxonomic structure of these communities is both time-consuming and requires a high level of taxonomic expertise. Here we describe a DNA sequence-based methodology for characterizing soil micro- and mesofaunal communities that is similar to the molecular approaches commonly used to survey soil microbial diversity. The technique involves the direct extraction of faunal DNA from soil, PCR amplification of the extracted DNA with metazoan-specific primers, followed by the construction of clone libraries and direct sequencing of individual PCR products. We used this technique to characterize micro- and mesofaunal community composition from six individual soils representing two land-use types. The technique captured the more abundant faunal groups in the soils (nematodes, Collembola, Acari, tardigrades, enchytraeids) and provided sufficient taxonomic resolution to describe the overall structure of the communities. We compared the results obtained using this molecular approach to results obtained using a traditional, microscopy-based approach and found that the results were broadly similar. However, since biases are inherent in both methods it remains unclear which method provides a more accurate assessment of soil faunal community composition. Although this molecular approach has some distinct disadvantages over the more widely-used direct extraction methods, one advantage is that the taxonomic identification it can provide will be more accurate and consistent across research groups, facilitating effective comparisons of mesofaunal surveys.  相似文献
