In humans, the empty sella is defined as herniation of the subarachnoidal space into the sella turcica with invisible (total empty sella) or reduced (partial empty sella) hypophyseal size. An empty sella can be associated with endocrine disturbances. The purpose of this study was to determine if the empty sella exists in dogs or cats and whether it is associated with endocrinopathy or hydrocephalus. Archived magnetic resonance images of the head of 370 dogs and 77 cats were re-evaluated specifically for the presence or absence of the pituitary gland. Hypophyseal tissue filling more than 50% of the sella was considered normal, between 30% and 50% was defined as partial empty sella and less than 30% was defined as total empty sella. In patients with an empty sella, and in all other imaged dogs of the affected breeds, the ventricle to brain ratio was measured. In patients with an empty sella, the medical record was searched for evidence of endocrinopathy. No cat had an empty sella but 11 dogs (3%) had a small or missing hypophysis. Seven of these dogs had a ventricle to brain ratio greater than 15%. Only small dogs (mean weight of 6.7 kg) were affected. One dog with an empty sella had signs of central hyperadrenocorticism while the other 10 had no sign of endocrinopathy. We conclude that the empty sella exists in dogs but is not generally associated with endocrinopathy.  相似文献

以第2茬紫花苜蓿(Medicago sativa)为原料,采用窖贮的方式,用青贮卫士(Siloguard)添加剂进行处理,设4个质量分数0、0.05%、0.1%和0.2%,探讨紫花苜蓿窖贮的可行性及添加剂的最佳质量分数,为大规模生产实践提供科学依据。试验结果表明:Siloguard添加剂对改善青贮料的感官、降低pH值、提高乳酸含量均有作用,但由于所加入添加剂的质量分数不同,窖贮后效果不一,以添加0.1%Siloguard效果最佳;加入添加剂后,青贮料的可溶性糖(WSC)含量显著提高,显著改善了紫花苜蓿青贮料的品质。综合分析认为,青贮窖越深,青贮料发酵品质越好;窖贮添加Siloguard能改善青贮饲料的品质,推荐生产最佳添加质量分数为0.1%。  相似文献

1987~1993年7年间用"诱乳激素"处理空怀奶牛1302头次,诱乳成功率达86.l%,并有81.6%的牛恢复正常的生理周期,配种后的受胎率达77.4%,直接经济效益为150余万元。本试验表明,对因饲养管理,生殖疾病等原因引起不孕及无乳的成年母牛,用"诱乳激素"进行人工诱乳是完全可行的且经济效益是十分显著的。  相似文献

研究不同储藏条件下小麦储藏的能耗和品质变化情况,结果显示,华南地区大型浅圆仓小麦进行一次降温后,后期3年~4年采用小功率风机进行适当降温,可以确保粮食安全度夏,且粮食储藏期间品质变化不大,但在降低通风能耗、减少粮食水损等方面效果明显.  相似文献

Heavy metal extraction and processing from ores releases elements into the environment. Soil, being an "unfortunate" sink, has its bionomics impaired and affected by metal pollution. Metals sneak into the food chain and pose risk to humans and other edaphicdependent organisms. For decontamination, the use of an ecosystem-friendly approach involving plants is known as phytoremediation.In this study, different lead(Pb) concentrations(80, 40, 20, and 10 mg kg~(-1)) were used to contaminate a well-characterized soil,(un)supplemented with organic waste empty fruit bunch(EFB) or spent mushroom compost(SMC), with non-edible plant—Lantana camara. Lead removal by L. camara ranged from 45.51% to 88.03% for supplemented soil, and from 23.7% to 57.8% for unsupplemented soil(P 0.05). The EFB-supplemented and L. camara-remediated soil showed the highest counts of heavy metal-resistant bacteria(HMRB)(79.67 × 10~6–56.0 × 10~6 colony forming units(CFU) g~(-1) soil), followed by SMC-supplemented and L. camara-remediated soil(63.33 × 10~6–39.0 × 10~6 CFU g~(-1) soil). Aerial metal uptake ranged from 32.08 ± 0.8 to 5.03 ± 0.08 mg kg~(-1) dry weight, and the bioaccumulation factor ranged from 0.401 to 0.643(P 0.05). Half-lives(t_(1/2)) of Pb were 7.24–2.26 d in supplemented soil,18.39–11.83 d in unsupplemented soil, and 123.75–38.72 d in the soil without plants and organic waste. Freundlich isotherms showed that the intensity of metal absorption(n) ranged from 2.44 to 2.51 for supplemented soil, with regression coefficients of determination(R~2) between 0.901 2 and 0.984 0. The computed free-energy change(?G) for Pb absorption ranged from -5.01 to 0.49 kJ mol~(-1) K~(-1) for EFB-supplemented soil and -3.93 to 0.49 k J mol~(-1) K~(-1) for SMC-supplemented soil.  相似文献

The composition of baled silage frequently differs from that of comparable conventional silage. A factorial experiment was conducted with three wilting treatments (0, 24 or 48 h) × three ensiling systems [unchopped grass in bales, unchopped grass in laboratory silos (LS), precision-chopped grass in LS] × six stages of ensiling to (i) confirm that the fermentation of unchopped grass in LS could be used as an adequate model for baled silage fermentation, (ii) quantify the differences between baled silage and silage made from precision-chopped herbage across a range of dry-matter contents and (c) quantify the fermentation dynamics within the various treatments. The onset of fermentation as evidenced by the accumulation of fermentation products and the decline in pH were slower ( P  < 0·05) in baled silage compared with silage made from precision-chopped herbage. Furthermore the pH ( P  < 0·001) and overall concentration of fermentation acids ( P  < 0·01) were lower while ammonia-N concentration was generally higher in baled silage, making it more conducive to the activities of Clostridia , Enterobacteria and yeast. Numbers of Enterobacteria were higher ( P  < 0·001) in baled silage in the early stages of ensilage and persisted in baled silage at the end of the storage period. The implications of a slower onset of fermentation in baled herbage are greater in farm practice, as the fermentation would be further restricted by a more extensive wilting of the herbage prior to ensiling.  相似文献
