Whole-body influx and efflux of K+ were determined for 25-day-old striped bass,Morone saxatilis, in conditions that simulated harvesting fish from ponds. During the first 5h in fresh water with combined high NaCl (80 mM) and low Ca2+ (0.12 mM) concentrations, a combination that is acutely lethal to this age of striped bass, K+ influx for fish in 0.07 mM K+ was 21±1.7 (SEM) compared to 3.4±0.33 nmol g–1 h–1 for fish in water with low Na+ (0.25 mM) or high Ca2+ (2.5 mM) concentrations. Influx of K+ was inhibited during the first few hours after fish were placed in flux chambers. Potassium efflux as percentage of42K lost per hour was two-fold higher from fish in the high Na-low Ca treatment compared to fish in low concentrations of Na+ or high concentrations of Ca2+. Potassium efflux was probably much greater than influx, but exact values for efflux could not be calculated from the data available. Survival of fish in water with high Na-low Ca was not increased by addition of KCl to the water, indicating that the net loss of K+ was probably not the cause of death.  相似文献

Effects of environmental calcium concentrations on the survival, growth, body calcium content and calcium uptake kinetics in developing tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) larvae were studied. Fertilized eggs were incubated in high- and low-calcium artificial freshwater (0.88–0.96 mmol l–1 vs. 0.02–0.03 mmol l–1 CaCl2 or CaSO4) until 3 days after hatching. Tilapia larvae showed similar hatching rates and wet weights in either high- or low-calcium medium, indicating neither the development nor the growth in tilapia larvae was affected by the environmental calcium levels. The body calcium content in low-calcium groups was about 90–95% that of high-calcium groups, No matter what calcium source was used (CaCl2 or CaSO4), acclimation to low calcium medium caused a stimulation of calcium uptake (measured in 0.2 mmol l–1 calcium),i.e., 1.2–1.3 fold higher than that of high calcium groups. This enhanced calcium uptake capacity was characterized by a 50% decrease in Km and a 25% increase in Jmax. Effect of different calcium salts on calcium influx was significant only in low calcium level,i.e., calcium influx in low-CaCl2 group higher than that in low-CaSO4 group. These results suggest that tilapia larvae are able to modulate their calcium uptake mechanism to maintain normal body calcium content and growth in environments with different levels of calcium.  相似文献

Wheat cultivars differ widely in manganese (Mn) efficiency. To investigate the reasons for different Mn efficiencies, a pot experiment with soil, a solution‐culture experiment, and model calculations were carried out. The pot experiment was conducted with wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cvs. PBW 373, PBW 154, PBW 343, PBW 138, and Triticum durum L. cvs. PBW 34 and PDW 233) grown in a screen house in India. The soil was a loamy sand with pH 8.1, DTPA‐extractable Mn 1.62 mg (kg soil)–1, and initial soil solution Mn concentration (CLi) of 0.19 μM. When fertilized with 50 mg Mn (kg soil)–1, CLi increased to 0.32 μM. At CLi 0.19 μM, wheat cv. PBW 373 produced 74% of its maximum shoot dry weight (SDW) with 64% of its maximum root length (RL), while cv. PDW 233 produced only 25% of its maximum SDW with 11% of its maximum RL. The other wheat cultivars were between these extremes. Manganese deficiency caused a reduction in shoot growth, but more strongly reduced root growth. The low Mn efficiency of T. durum cv. PDW 233 was related to a strong depression of its root growth. Manganese influx was similar for all cultivars. In solution culture below 1 μM Mn, under controlled climate‐chamber conditions, Mn influx was linearly related to Mn concentration. Both the efficient cv. PBW 343 and the inefficient cv. PDW 233 had a similar influx. Uptake kinetic parameters from the solution experiment together with soil and plant parameters from the pot experiment were used in a mechanistic nutrient‐uptake model. Calculated values of Mn influx for wheat grown in soil were 55% to 74% of measured values. A sensitivity analysis showed that increasing CLi or the slope of the uptake isotherm by about 30% would be enough to reach the observed influx. The results of this research indicate that an increase of Mn solubility by microbial or chemical mobilization would increase Mn uptake. But on the other hand, no chemical mobilization would be required to increase Mn uptake if the plant improved its uptake kinetics. Low Mn efficiency of some wheat cultivars was related to their reduced root growth at low soil Mn supply.  相似文献

To study the effect of two different nitrogen (N) sources and manganese application on root-shoot relations and manganese (Mn) dynamics in the rhizosphere of two wheat cultivars, a screen house experiment was conducted using manganese-deficient soil. Significantly higher root length (RL), root surface area, shoot dry weight (SDW), root length density, and manganese uptake were recorded in calcium nitrate supplied plants of cultivar ‘WH 542’ when applied with calcium nitrate along with manganese rather than ammonium sulfate. Cultivar ‘PD W274’ produced 72% of the maximum RL and 77% of the maximum SDW under similar conditions. Results indicated that cultivar ‘WH 542’ was more manganese efficient than ‘PD W274’ and calcium nitrate was a better source of nitrogen than ammonium sulfate. However, maximum shoot manganese content was recorded in ammonium sulfate supplied plants, which was due to depletion of manganese at root surface to a lower value, causing higher concentration gradient and hence higher manganese influx to root.  相似文献

Potassium uptake efficiency of safflower and sunflower was studied under semi-controlled conditions in loamy and sandy soils. Both species performed better in loamy soil. Safflower had higher agronomic efficiency and higher relative root length under suboptimal K supply. Safflower had higher specific root density and less root radius at all K levels. Safflower had higher relative root-shoot ratio under suboptimal K in loamy soil. Both species had similar K-influx at low and optimal K in loamy soil, while sunflower had higher influx under suboptimal and optimal supplies in sandy soil. Safflower had higher shoot demand in both soils under suboptimal and optimal K. Both species depleted similar amounts of soil solution-K under suboptimal K in sandy soil, while sunflower was more efficient under suboptimal levels in loamy soils. Sunflower depleted more extractable-K under both suboptimal and optimal K. Safflower could be considered K-uptake efficient crop.  相似文献

During their early life stages (egg maturation, hatching, alevin development), between late autumn and early spring, young Atlantic salmon are exposed to surface‐groundwater interactions in the hyporheic zone and may depend on influx of subsurface water during periods of regulated low discharge for survival. Two studies, one in a seasonally regulated river and one in a river exposed to hydropeaking, displayed unexpectedly high survival of eggs in surface de‐watered areas because of the influx of oxygen‐rich subsurface water. Field observations of newly hatched alevins in these two rivers showed them to be more sensitive (i.e. suffered higher mortality from) to surface de‐watering than were eggs. Exposure to dry conditions in drawdown areas was highlighted as the main cause for alevin mortality. Therefore, shorter periods of surface de‐watering in the river with hydropeaking resulted in higher alevin survival than the seasonally regulated river when still permanently drained after egg hatching. Greater consideration should be given to all early life‐history stages when implementing discharge release strategies, and the extent of groundwater influence and the potential for flexible hydropower operations should be taken into account.  相似文献

Oiltea camellia (Camellia oleifera Abel.), an aluminium (Al) hyperaccumulator, grows well on acid soils in tropical or subtropical areas. In this study, the growth of oiltea camellia in response to Al application and the characteristics of Al uptake and accumulation were investigated using laboratory and field experiments. The growth of oiltea camellia seedlings in the nutrient solution tended to be stimulated by addition of Al. Results of the field experiment showed that oiltea camellia accumulated 11000 mg kg-1 Al in leaves within 10 months, and the average rate of Al accumulation in new leaves was about 1100 mg kg-1 month?1; however, the monthly rate varied and was highest in spring and autumn. The results of the laboratory experiment on Al uptake by oiltea camellia seedlings in CaCl2 solutions with various forms of Al showed that large amounts of Al supplied as Al3+ and Al complexes Al-malate (1:1) and Al-F (1:1) were influxed into oiltea camellia roots, whereas Al supplied as Al-citrate (1:1), Al-F (1:6), Al-oxalate (1:3), and Al-oxalate (1:1) complexes exhibited low affnity to oiltea camellia roots. The kinetics of Al3+ cumulative uptake in excised roots and intact plants showed a biphasic pattern, with an initial rapid phase followed by a slow phase. The Al cumulative uptake was una?ected by low temperature, which indicated that Al uptake in oiltea camellia was a passive process. The effcient influx of Al into the roots and the high transport rate in specific seasons were presumed to account for the plentiful Al accumulation in leaves of oiltea camellia.  相似文献

To examine the possibility of managing manganese (Mn) deficiency through mixed cropping, berseem was grown as a monoculture and in mixed cropping with oats, ryegrass, or raya in a Mn-deficient soil under screen-house conditions. In no-Mn berseem monoculture treatment, shoot dry weight (SDW) and root length (RL) were, respectively, 33% and 45% of the maximum recorded values obtained with berseem grown in mixed cropping with ryegrass at 60 days of growth. Corresponding values of SDW and RL of berseem when grown with raya were 78% and 76% of the maximum, respectively. Even though berseem grown in mixed cropping with ryegrass and raya had smaller RL/SDW ratio and greater shoot growth rate than berseem grown as monoculture, it acquired a high shoot Mn concentration because of 3.8 times more Mn influx. A high Mn influx was the result of a high concentration gradient that developed because of depletion of Mn at the root surface.  相似文献

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars differ widely in their susceptibility to zinc (Zn) deficiency. The physiological basis of Zn efficiency (ZE) is not clearly understood. In this study, the effects of Zn‐sufficient and Zn‐deficient pretreatments on the time and concentration‐dependent uptake kinetics of Zn were examined at low (0–160 nM) and high Zn supply levels (0–80 μM) in two contrasting rice genotypes (Zn‐efficient IR36 and Zn‐inefficient IR26). The results show that 65Zn2+ influx rate was over 10 times greater for the Zn‐deficient pretreatment plants than for the Zn‐sufficient pretreatment plants. At low Zn supply, significant higher 65Zn2+ influx rates were found for the Zn‐efficient genotype than for the inefficient genotype, with a greater difference (over three‐fold) at Zn supply > 80 nM in the Zn‐deficient pretreatments. At high Zn supply levels, however, a difference (2.5‐fold) in 65Zn2+ influx rate between the two genotypes was only noted in the Zn‐deficient pretreatments. Similarly, the 65Zn2+ accumulation in the roots and shoots of Zn‐efficient IR36 pretreated with Zn‐deficiency were sharply increased with time and higher than that in the Zn‐inefficient IR26 with an over four‐fold difference at 2 h absorption time. However, with Zn‐deficient pretreatments, the Zn‐efficient genotype showed a higher shoot : root 65Zn ratio at higher Zn supply. Remarkable differences in root and shoot 65Zn2+ accumulation were noted between the two genotypes in the Zn‐deficiency pretreatment, especially at low Zn level (0.05 μM), with 2–3 times higher values for IR36 than for IR26 at an uptake time of 120 min. There appear to be two separate Zn transport systems mediating the low and high‐affinity Zn influx in the efficient genotype. The low‐affinity system showed apparent Michaelis–Menten rate constant (Km) values ranging from 10 to 20 nM, while the high‐affinity uptake system showed apparent Km values ranging from 6 to 20 μM. The Vmax value was significantly elevated in IR36 and was 3–4‐fold greater for IR36 than for IR26 at low Zn levels, indicating that the number of root plasma membrane transporters in low‐affinity uptake systems play an important role for the Zn efficiency of rice.  相似文献

Isolated rat brain synaptosomes were used to evaluate the action of pyrethroid mixtures on Ca2+ influx and subsequent glutamate release under depolarizing conditions. In equipotent binary mixtures at their respective and/or estimated EC50s with deltamethrin always as one of the two components, cismethrin, λ-cyhalothrin, cypermethrin, esfenvalerate and permethrin were additive and S-bioallethrin, fenpropathrin and tefluthrin were less-than-additive on Ca2+ influx. In binary mixtures with deltamethrin always as one of the two components, esfenvalerate, permethrin and tefluthrin were additive and λ-cyhalothrin was less-than-additive on glutamate release. Binary mixture of S-bioallethrin and cismethrin was additive for both Ca2+ influx and glutamate release. Only a subset of pyrethroids (S-bioallethrin, cismethrin, cypermethrin, and fenpropathrin) in binary mixtures with deltamethrin caused a more-than-additive effect on glutamate release. These binary mixtures were, however, only additive (cismethrin and cypermethrin) or less-than-additive (S-bioallethrin and fenpropathrin) on Ca2+ influx. Therefore, increased glutamate release evoked by this subset of pyrethroids in binary mixture with deltamethrin is not entirely occurring by Ca2+-dependent mechanisms via their action at voltage-sensitive calcium channels. These results suggest that pyrethroids do not share a common mode of toxicity at presynaptic nerve terminals from rat brain and appear to affect multiple target sites, including voltage-sensitive calcium, chloride and sodium channels.  相似文献
