Understanding agri-food networks as social relations

Actor network theory and supply chainmanagement theory provide suggestive researchdirections for understanding regional agri-foodnetworks. These theories claim that relationshipsbased upon trust and cooperation are critical to thestrength and vitality of the network. This means thatexploring and detailing these relationships among thesuppliers, producers, workers, processors, brokers,wholesalers, and retailers within specific regionalgeographies of these networks are critical forfurthering cooperation and trust. Key areas ofcooperation include resource sharing andapprenticeship programs. Employing food networks as akey unit of contextual analysis will deepen ourunderstanding of how to enhance their resiliency andvibrancy. Important questions can be raised about thedifference gender makes for farmers, brokers,entrepreneurs, and workers in local food networks.

猪鸡联养研究

研究表明笼养肉鸡的鸡粪中粗蛋白含量比平面养的高１６．４７个百分点，而粗纤维低９．１２个百分点。用鸡粪喂猪，其饲料报酬同加入鸡粪的比例呈正相关，如日粮中添加３０－６０％鸡粪，其饲料报酬提高１５．３２－５５．３２％；同样加入４０％鸡粪喂猪，鸡粪经发酵的饲料报酬又比不发酵的高９．６２％。为使育肥猪得到较好的增重，还应将日粮的营养水平调整到接近饲养标准，猪鸡联养规模，一个专业户一次批量以肉鸡１０００－１５００羽，联养生猪１０－２０头为宜。     

Physical habitat utilization of fish in a Sonoran Desert stream, Arizona, southwestern United States

Abstract– The physical habitat utilization of 7 species of native fishes in a Sonoran Desert stream, Aravaipa Creek, Arizona is described. The species occupied significantly different depths and velocities of water. Longfin dace ( Agosia chrysogaster ), speckled dace ( Rhinichthys osculus ) and loach minnow ( Tiaroga cobitis ) used similar depths and velocities. Two of the three larger species (Sonora sucker [ Catostomus insignis ] and roundtail chub [ Gila robusta ]) used areas of greater depth and reduced velocity. Desert sucker ( Catostomus clarki ) grouped with loach minnow and speckled dace in the velocity of water occupied, but utilized deeper waters. The spikedace ( Meda fulgida ) aligned very closely with desert sucker in use of all 3 physical habitat variables.

The long-run determinants of U.S. lumber imported from Canada revisited

This paper examines the effects of the lumber price, the housing starts, and the bilateral exchange rate on U.S. softwood lumber imports from Canada in a cointegration framework. To that end, the Phillips-Hansen fully-modified cointegration (FM-OLS) procedure is applied to monthly data for the period from January 1994 through June 2009. Results show that there exists the long-run equilibrium relationship between the U.S. lumber imports from Canada and the selected macroeconomic and market variables. We also find that the U.S. lumber price and housing starts are more important than the bilateral exchange rate in influencing U.S.-Canada softwood lumber trade.
