An allometric model that explains the mechanism of the difference in the slope of the Reineke equation (A) among species was proposed based on the allometric relationships of mean tree height (H) to quadratic mean diameter D (H ∝ D

), i.e., A = θ/δ. The proposed model was fitted to Japanese cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa Endl.) and red pine (Pinus densiflora) stands. The allometric exponents θ and δ were, respectively, 0.8995 and −0.5000 for cypress and 0.8612 and −0.6619 for pine. The difference between cypress and pine
was significant for δ but not for θ. Inserting the exponents into the model resulted in predicted slopes of −1.7991 for cypress and −1.3011 for pine. The difference
in the slope of the Reineke equation between the two species was produced by characteristics related to the tree crown, rather
than characteristics related to stem slenderness. The proposed model enables us to estimate the slope of the Reineke equation
from commonly measured stand attributes, such as mean tree height and quadratic mean diameter. Therefore, the proposed model
is expected to be practical and convenient for estimating the slope of the Reineke equation and for explaining the mechanism
of its variation among species. The model should be also accepted as a generalized model of the stand density versus quadratic
mean diameter relationship, whereas the original Reineke equation should be seen as a specific case of this model. 相似文献

Differences in the behavior of the crossbred steers of different sire lines of Japanese Black cattle

We determined differences in the behavior of the progeny of two major sire lines of Japanese Black cattle by recording the behavior of 35 and 70 half-sib steers of sires from fast (FG) and slow (SG) growing lines, respectively. Two sire lines of steers were mixed and allocated to nine pens with 11–12 animals per pen. The proportion of steers lying was significantly (P < 0.001) higher in the SG line (43.4 ± 5.7% compared to 40.3 ± 6.0%). The proportion of time spent eating concentrate feed (FG: 12.1 ± 2.3%; SG: 11.4 ± 2.1%), drinking (FG: 0.8 ± 1.1%; SG: 0.4 ± 0.6%), licking the feed trough (FG: 0.4 ± 0.6%; SG: 0.2 ± 0.4%) and performing tongue-playing (FG: 3.1 ± 4.6%; SG: 1.0 ± 1.9%) was significantly higher in FG, whereas the proportion of time spent resting (FG: 41.5 ± 12.8%; SG: 43.7 ± 10.9%) and performing self-licking (FG: 1.7 ± 1.4%; SG: 2.1 ± 1.3%) was higher in SG (all P < 0.05). Monitoring of acute phase proteins such as serum amyloid A at gene expression level may provide quick information about immune status of the host and its susceptibility towards common infections. Present study was carried out to evaluate and compare the mRNA expression of SAA gene in Rhode Island Red chicken (RIR) and Japanese quails using real time PCR analysis in response to inactivated Salmonella gallinarum culture. The results showed that expression of SAA gene was approximately 17–33 folds higher in case of birds administered with bacterial culture when compared to un-inoculated controls and expression was higher and quicker in case of quails than RIR chicken. The SAA genes from chicken and quail were cloned and upon sequence analysis it was observed that deduced amino acid sequence of SAA from chicken and quails were having approximately seven percent variation which might have significance in function of this protein in these species. 相似文献

为研究天然东北红豆杉枝中紫杉醇和三尖杉宁碱的积累特点,系统采集了不同年龄、不同性别、不同营养时期和不同坡向的天然东北红豆杉枝样品,利用反相高效液相色谱对当年生、2年生和多年生枝中紫杉醇及三尖杉宁碱含量进行测定分析。结果表明:1)随树龄增加枝中的紫杉醇含量呈先上升后下降的趋势,而三尖杉宁碱含量随树龄增加而降低;2)雌株和雄株枝中两种紫杉烷类物质含量只在较大径级(60 cm)时有明显差异,即雌株中含量低于雄株,而在60 cm径级范围内,雌株和雄株间两种物质含量没有显著差异;3)随着营养时期的变化,从4月到10月,枝中两种紫杉烷类物质的含量整体呈先上升后下降并趋于稳定的变化趋势,其中紫杉醇含量在8、9月达到峰值,三尖杉宁碱含量在7、8月达到峰值;4)在不同坡向上,只有在较小径级植株的当年生枝中,阳坡两种物质含量高于阴坡,而在较大径级时无显著差异。 相似文献

以日本圆叶海棠初代培养获得的茎段为外植体,采用正交和随机区组设计培养基进行继代和生根培养.建立了日本圆叶海棠试管苗快繁体系,并优化获得其适宜继代的培养基MS + IBA 0.2 mg/L + 6-BA 0.3 mg/L + 蔗糖3% + 琼脂0.55%,适宜的生根培养基为1/2MS + IAA 0.5 mg/L +蔗糖2% + 琼脂0.55%.研究表明,MS基本培养基附加低浓度水平的6-BA与IBA的激素组合,有利于丛生芽的诱导,1/2MS基本培养基附加低浓度的IAA,有利于根的诱导,NAA与IBA不适用于生根.生根苗的移栽可采用温室自然光过渡法炼苗后,以蛭石为基质的营养钵移栽法. 相似文献
