Logging pattern and landscape changes over the last century at the boreal and deciduous forest transition in Eastern Canada 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Forestry practices associated with the industrial era (since ~1900) have altered the natural disturbance regimes and greatly
impacted the world’s forests. We quantified twentieth century logging patterns and regional scale consequences in three sub-boreal
forest landscapes of Eastern Canada (117,000, 49,400 and 92,300 ha), comparing forestry maps depicting age and forest cover
types for early industrial (1930) and present-day (2000) conditions. Results were similar for the three landscapes, indicating
large-scale forest change during the twentieth century. In 1930, previous logging activities had been concentrated in the
lowlands and along the main hydrographical network, as compared to a more even distribution over the landscapes in 2000, reflecting
a decreasing influence of the environmental constraints on forest harvesting. In 1930, old-aged forests (>100 years) accounted
for more than 75% of the unlogged areas of the three landscapes, as compared to less than 15% for the present-day conditions.
Logging practices have thus inverted the stand age distribution of the landscapes that are currently dominated by young and
regenerating stands. The 1930 forest cover types showed a clear relationship with elevation, with conifers located in the
lowlands and mixed and deciduous stands restricted to the upper slopes. Between 1930 and 2000, 58–64% of the conifer areas
transformed to mixed and deciduous forests, such that no clear altitudinal relationships remained in 2000. We conclude that
twentieth century logging practices have strongly altered the preindustrial vegetation patterns in our study area, to the
point that ecosystem-based management strategies should be developed to restore conifer dominance, altitudinal gradients,
as well as the irregular structure inspired from old forest stands. 相似文献

This study aimed at capturing the spatial variability of landscape patterns and their trajectories of change from 1950 to
2000 within a watershed, which is representative of areas of intensive agricultural use. After an analysis of landscape features
changes for the entire watershed based on aerial photographs, hierarchical clustering analysis provided a typology of landscape
patterns for the cadastral lots. Following that, the trajectory of change of each lot was characterized (nature, importance,
direction, rate of change). Seven types of landscape patterns are distinguished by the relative importance of different classes
of landscape features and 51 trajectories of change were identified for the lots. The analysis shows that although the majority
of lots were subjected to a homogenization of their landscape patterns since 1950, this trend is not entirely uniform and
that since 2000 it occurs alongside trends towards diversification of certain landscape features on some lots. Furthermore,
nearly a third of the lots are not following the main trajectories of change detected. Thus, the results suggest that extrinsic
forces (policies, technologies) that are directing main changes in areas of intensive agricultural use toward uniformity could
be modulated by internal forces (uses and values of the population). A better understanding of theses internal forces seems
crucial to manage landscapes. From a methodology standpoint, although the hierarchical clustering analyses appear useful for
understanding the spatial and temporal variability of landscape patterns, particular attention must be given to validating

- 1. To conserve biodiversity in a human‐dominated landscape, a science‐based inventory and monitoring plan is needed that quantifies existing resources, isolates drivers that maintain natural communities, determines harmful stressors, and links ecological drivers and human stressors. A tactical approach is proposed for conservation planning using freshwater fish at the Cape Cod National Seashore.
- 2. Freshwater fish are well studied and occur across environmental gradients. The lentic systems at the national park are relatively pristine yet are enveloped by a region of high population density. Using fish community data, three steps were taken for tracking anthropogenic impacts in a human dominated landscape. First, fish and potential drivers were sampled intensively along a gradient to determine which fish metrics reflect natural communities and which abiotic and biotic factors structure them. Second, emerging and existing regional human threats were identified. Third, these human threats were linked to the potential drivers that maintain natural communities to identify the most informative metrics to monitor and track change.
- 3. Fish communities, water quality, habitat, and food resources were sampled concurrently in 18 ponds in 1999 and 2000. Three common fish species explained 98% of variation in numbers across systems. Based on ecological relationships, pH, depth, vegetation, prey, and community complexity were determined to maintain biodiversity of freshwater fish communities.
- 4. The primary human threats here included: development‐related, land‐use changes; non‐point source pollution; eutrophication from septic systems; and introduced species that are a byproduct of high human visitation. These are common threats in many rapidly urbanized areas and are likely to have relevance to many sites.
- 5. To track the impact of emerging threats to freshwater ponds related to increased human population, monitoring changes in water quality, vegetated habitat, fish diversity, and trophic interactions are recommended.

对杂交水稻组合红莲优6和两优1193在淹水灌溉和湿润灌溉两种灌溉模式下生育后期的根系和光合生理特性进行了比较分析。结果显示,湿润灌溉增大了水稻根系密度,提高了根系活力,相关分析显示根系密度与根系活力呈正相关(r1=0.66, r2=0.68)。齐穗期剑叶叶绿素含量处理间差异不显著,但成熟期湿润灌溉显著高于淹水灌溉,推测湿润灌溉有利于剑叶功能期的延长和光合速率的提高。湿润灌溉条件下,群体生长率和相对生长率均显著高于淹水灌溉,表明湿润灌溉有利于水稻生殖生长期的干物质积累。上述结果可能是湿灌处理条件下水稻单位面积的产量极显著高于淹灌处理的主要原因。 相似文献

以3个高产杂交水稻组合中优6号、两优培九、Ⅱ优7954为材料,研究了水稻好气灌溉条件下的生理特性。与传统淹水灌溉相比较,好气灌溉条件下水稻整个生育期田间水位降低,土壤氧化还原电位提高;分蘖早发,前期分蘖和大分蘖比例提高,分蘖成穗数提高7.1%~18.3%,增产8.6%~10.8%。同时,好气灌溉在单丛叶面积没有显著下降的情况下,提高群体各层次的透光率。与传统方式比较,水稻好气灌溉处理在孕穗期和开花期根系单茎伤流量增加,花后叶片光合速率、气孔导度和比叶重提高。 相似文献

依据厦门市1971—2004年34年的基本气象资料,研究分析了该市年均气温和年降水量的年际变化特征,并确定了各自的气候突变点,据此分析了该市的气候类型。结果表明:(1)从20世纪80年代以来,该市年均气温以每年0.0631℃的速度在升高,年均气温出现2个气候突变点,分别为1981和1998年;(2)年降水量多年变化趋势不明显,呈随机变化,年降水量出现2个气候突变点,分别为1977和1990年;(3)34年的气候类型分为暖湿、暖干、冷湿和冷干4种类型。 相似文献
