The bioherbicidal efficacy of different alginate formulations of Alternaria eichhorniae 5 (isolate Ae5), a virulent Egyptian isolate, was compared on waterhyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes). The fungus was formulated as alginate pellets containing mycelium alone, mycelium plus culture filtrate or culture filtrate alone. Each formulation was applied with and without a hydrophilic humectant (Evergreen 500). These formulations were evaluated for disease incidence (DI), and disease severity (DS). Maximum DS, but not DI, was obtained with the alginate pellets of mycelium plus culture filtrate. Alginate formulations supplemented with the hydrophilic polymer were more effective in promoting disease. Physiological changes associated with the treated waterhyacinth plants were determined 3, 6 and 9 days after treatment. Waterhyacinth plants treated with alginate pellets of mycelium plus culture filtrate of Ae5 had the lowest levels of pigments, carbohydrates and relative water content. Infection of waterhyacinth with Ae5 led to a significant increase in total phenols of leaves as compared to control. Penetration of waterhyacinth leaves by the fungus occurred only through the stomata, and the invading hyphae were located in the intercellular spaces of leaf tissues. Cytological changes noted in infected cells included changes in chloroplast, nucleus and mitochondria. Invagination of the plasma membrane, particularly at plasmodesmata was also noticed in infected cells. The associations between the infection process, the physiological disorder and the ultrastructure of infected leaves are discussed. 相似文献

Purpose
Various soil conditioners, such as biochar (BC) and anionic polyacrylamide (PAM), improve soil fertility and susceptibility to erosion, and may alter microbial accessibility and decomposition of soil organic matter (SOM) and plant residues. To date, no attempts have been made to study the effects of BC in combination with PAM on the decomposition of soil SOM and plant residues. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of BC, PAM, and their combination on the decomposition of SOM and alfalfa residues.Materials and methods
An 80-day incubation experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of oak wood biochar (BC; 10 Mg ha?1), PAM (80 kg ha?1), and their combination (BC?+?PAM) on decomposition of SOM and 14C-labeled alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) residues by measuring CO2 efflux, microbial biomass, and specific respiration activity.Results and discussion
No conditioner exerted a significant effect on SOM decomposition over the 80 days of incubation. PAM increased cumulative CO2 efflux at 55–80 days of incubation on average of 6.7 % compared to the soil with plant residue. This was confirmed by the increased MBN and MB14C at 80 days of incubation in PAM-treated soil with plant residue compared to the control. In contrast, BC and BC?+?PAM decreased plant residue decomposition compared to that in PAM-treated soil and the respective control soil during the 80 days. BC and BC?+?PAM decreased MBC in soil at 2 days of incubation indicated that BC suppressed soil microorganisms and, therefore, decreased the decomposition of plant residue.Conclusions
The addition of oak wood BC alone or in combination with PAM to soil decreased the decomposition of plant residue.25.

Purpose
Ichkeul National Park, NW Tunisia, is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Garaet El Ichkeul Lake is known for its seasonal variability in water level and salinity. In recent decades, the waterbody has been affected by the construction of new hydraulic structures. To reduce the impacts of dams and to maintain the sustainability of the ecosystem, a sluice was built at the outlet of the lake, and it operated for the first time in 1996. This paper describes an investigation of recent sedimentation dynamics in Ichkeul Lake, determined by radiometric dating of sediment cores.Materials and methods
A sediment core was collected with a UWITEC gravity corer at the deepest, central part of the lake in August 2009. Specific activities of unsupported lead-210 (210Pb) and caesium-137 (137Cs) were measured in the core, enabling calculation of recent sediment accumulation rates (SAR). Published radiometric data from nearby sediment cores, collected in 1997 and 1982, provide a comparison.Results and discussion
The measured excess 210Pb inventory was 5300?±?500?Bq?m?2, leading to an estimation of constant flux of 165?±?16?Bq?m?2?yr?1, a value higher than the best estimate for local atmospheric fluxes (123?±?12?Bq?m?2?yr?1) and the flux estimated from the core collected in 1982 (48?Bq?m?2?yr?1). The 137Cs inventory was 3550?±?120?Bq?m?2, two times higher than the historical 137Cs atmospheric deposition in the area. The 137Cs profile displayed a distinct peak, but the 137Cs depth-distribution did not follow the pattern expected from atmospheric deposition. Application of the constant rate of supply (CRS) model, with the reference point method, produced a chronology and SAR values comparable to those found in previous work. The whole 137Cs profile was quantitatively reconstructed from the historical records of atmospheric deposition, using the system-time-averaged (STA) model.Conclusions
The CRS and STA models provide consistent sediment accumulation results for the whole data set, considering the time resolution of the chronology (~6?years) and analytical uncertainties. Results from cores sampled in 1982, 1997 and 2009 reveal an increasing SAR trend, from ~0.25?g?cm?2?yr?1 in the early 1940s to ~0.67?g?cm?2?yr?1 at present. In the 13?years since installation of sluice gates at Tinja, SAR in the central Ichkeul Lake has not declined. Thus, if siltation continues at the present rate, shallowing of the lake will seriously affect the hydromorphology and ecology of this important lake. 相似文献26.

In this study, an assessment for a proposed irrigation system in the El-Salam Canal cultivated land, Egypt, was conducted. A numerical model (HYDRUS-2D/3D) was applied to investigate the effect of irrigation amount, frequency, and emitter depth on the wetted soil volume, soil salinity levels, and deep percolation under subsurface trickle irrigation (SDI) of tomato growing with brackish irrigation water in three different soil types. The simulations indicated that lower irrigation frequency increased the wetted soil volume without significant increase in water percolates below the plant roots. Deep percolation decreased as the amount of irrigation water and emitter depth decreased. With the same amount of irrigation water, the volume of leached soil was larger at lower irrigation frequency. The salinity of irrigation water under SDI with shallow emitter depth did not show any significant effect on increasing the soil salinity above tomato crop salt tolerance. Based on the results, it appears that the use of SDI with brackish irrigation water is an effective method for growing tomato crop in El-Salam Canal cultivated land especially with shallow emitter depth. 相似文献

Hierarchical zeolites are a class of microporous catalysts and adsorbents that also contain mesopores, which allow for fast transport of bulky molecules and thereby enable improved performance in petrochemical and biomass processing. We used repetitive branching during one-step hydrothermal crystal growth to synthesize a new hierarchical zeolite made of orthogonally connected microporous nanosheets. The nanosheets are 2 nanometers thick and contain a network of 0.5-nanometer micropores. The house-of-cards arrangement of the nanosheets creates a permanent network of 2- to 7-nanometer mesopores, which, along with the high external surface area and reduced micropore diffusion length, account for higher reaction rates for bulky molecules relative to those of other mesoporous and conventional MFI zeolites. 相似文献

CD97 is a member of a novel subfamily of leukocyte proteins that are characterized by the presence of tandemly repeated extracellular epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like domains and a seven-span transmembrane region, known as EGF-TM7. We here report the cloning of cDNA encoding the pig homologue of CD97. A pig CD97 specific probe was generated by PCR amplification of pig leukocyte cDNA, using primers based on consensus regions among the known sequences of mouse and human CD97. Screening of a pig aorta smooth muscle cDNA library identified one clone containing an open reading frame (ORF) that encoded an 18 amino acid putative signal peptide, a 141 amino acid sequence consisting of three EGF domains, a mucin-like spacer region of 276 amino acid, containing a G-protein coupling motif of 52 amino acids, followed by a 250 amino acid region containing seven membrane spanning domains and a 47 amino acid cytoplasmic tail. The amino acid sequence of the clone was 75, 67 and 59% homologous to cattle, human and mouse CD97 antigen, respectively. Therefore, it was termed pig CD97. Pig CD97 antigen shares many structural features with human, cattle and mouse CD97. RT-PCR analysis of cDNA from different pig cells and tissues showed that CD97 was highly expressed in leukocytes and lymph node cells. This study aimed to design ecologically acceptable formulations of acetochlor by adsorbing it on montmorillonite exchanged by a small organic cation, phenyltrimethylammonium (PTMA). Adsorption of acetochlor on the clay mineral exchanged with different organic cations and its release from these complexes were determined by GC and modeled by Langmuir equation. Interactions between acetochlor molecules and the exchanged organic cation on the clay surface were studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Leaching of acetochlor in soil was determined by a bioassay using a column technique and Setaria viridis as a test plant. The adsorbed amounts of acetochlor on montmorillonite exchanged by PTMA at a loading of 0.5 mmol/g of clay were higher than at a loading up to the cation-exchange capacity, i.e., 0.8 mmol/g, and were higher than obtained by using a clay mineral exchanged by other organic cations. Preloading montmorillonite by PTMA at 0.5 mmol/g yielded maximal shifts of the infrared peaks of the herbicide. The above formulation of acetochlor yielded slow release in water and showed improved weed control in field and greenhouse experiments in comparison with the commercial formulation. The PTMA-clay formulation of acetochlor maintained herbicidal activity in the topsoil and yielded the most significant reduction in herbicide leaching and persistence under field conditions. The application of this formulation can minimize the risk to groundwater and can reduce the applied rates. 相似文献
