This study has been carried out to determine the effect of neutral position, hyperextension and hyperflexion of the tarsal joint on the tibial nerve, motor action potential latency and tarsal canal compartment pressure in dogs with the aid of electrophysiological and anatomical methods. Totally twenty healthy mongrel dogs were used. Latency of motor nerve action potential (MNAPL) studies of tibial nerve via surface stimulating and needle recording electrodes was performed on right hind limbs of all the dogs. The compartment pressures of the tarsal canal with the pressure transducer were determined from both limbs from ten of the dogs. In one dog, tarsal regions of both left and right limbs were demonstrated using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Two dogs were euthanatized and tarsal regions of the dogs were sectioned for correlative anatomy. Nerve conduction studies showed that the MNAP latency of the tibial nerve were 3.55 +/- 0.097 ms, 3.76 +/- 0.087 ms and 3.39 +/- 0.097 ms in neutral, hyperextension and hyperflexion positions, respectively. Hyperflexion of the tarsal joint caused prolongation of the MNAP latency of the tibial nerve with the highest pressure value being determined in tarsal canal. From the anatomical viewpoint, the distance between the flexor hallucis longus muscle and the superficial digital muscle was the shortest during hyperflexion and the plantar branch of saphenous artery, lateral and medial plantar nerves located more laterally in cadaver and MR imaging sections. As a result of this study, it is thought that tarsal region diseases as well as long time splint in the hyperflexion position as applied in the Ehmer sling can affect the compartment pressure and nerve tension because of occupying in the tarsal canal. Raising pressure and nerve stretching in the tarsal canal compartment could cause deficiencies in the conduction velocity of the tibial nerve. This might be a result of tarsal tunnel syndrome in the dog. Clinicians could consider this syndrome in cases of tarsal region diseases as well as application of long time splint in hyperflexion of tarsal joints in dogs.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to DTPA (complexion agent) and a sequential extraction procedure, and adsorption-desorption isotherm (competitive) evaluate the mobility and distribution of Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu, Cd, Ni, and Pb using the in surface samples of five soil great groups differing in their physicochemical properties. For determining heavy metal adsorption and desorption capacities of soil samples, six different concentrations (0, 2.5, 5, 10, 15 and 20 mg Lt) were used in a laboratory experiment with tree replications. An analytical procedure involving sequential chemical extractions has been used for partitioning of heavy metals into five fractions. Sorption isotherms were characterized using linear, Frendlich and Langmuir equations. The results indicated that the selective sequences of the metal adsorption based on the distribution coefficient was Pb〉Cu〉Ni〉Cd〉Zn〉Mn〉Fe and Pb, Cu, and Ni are the most strongly sorbed metals by these soils, whereas Cd, Zn and Mn are the least sorbed ones. The total adsorbed amount of these metals on the studied soils was well described by Langmuir equation. Calciorthid had the highset Pb, Cu, Ni, Cd, Zn, Mn, and Fe adsorption, and the sequences followed order Fluvaquent〉Argiustoll〉Pellustert〉Haplustept of the studied soil.  相似文献

Recombinant p40 produced by baculovirus was used in an ELISA to screen samples of serum taken from 80 cats in Istanbul. The sera were also analysed for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukaemia virus (FeLV). Antibodies to Borna disease virus- (BDV) p40 were detected in 34 (42-5 per cent) of the 80 cats. Seventy-three per cent of the sera which were positive for FIV and 26 per cent of the sera which were negative for FIV had antibodies to BDV. There was no difference in the percentage of sera which were positive for BDV between the cats that were positive or negative for FeLV. Three of the cats had neurological disease and two of these had antibodies to BDV. Six sera with low, medium or high optical densities (ODS) by ELISA were analysed by Western blotting. Only the sera with medium and high ODS reacted specifically with p40 at a dilution of 1 in 1,000.  相似文献

Nitric oxide (NO) has previously been shown to be responsible for nitrogen mustard (NM)-induced tissue toxicity. Excessive amounts of NO are known to be able to produce peroxynitrite, an important reactive nitrogen compound, by reacting with superoxide. Previous studies reported that NO synthase inhibitors are able to prevent NM toxicity. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether peroxynitrite is also responsible for NM-induced lung tissue damage in rats. Wistar rats were divided into four groups. NM was injected intratracheally and was treated with the selective inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) inhibitor aminoguanidine (AG) (intraperitoneal) or the peroxynitrite scavenger ebselen (intragastric). Control animals were exposed to saline only. NM injection caused both oxidative and nitrosative stress, reflected by dramatically increased levels of the lipid peroxidation end product malondialdehyde (MDA), iNOS activation and urine nitrite-nitrate (NOx) values. Histopathological evaluation demonstrated lung damage with NM exposure. AG blocked iNOS activation and decreased urine NOx levels, and resulted in less histopathological changes in the lung. Although the histopathological outcome was found to be similar to AG, ebselen did not change urinary NOx or lung iNOS levels. Furthermore, ebselen was more able than AG to protect against MDA accumulation. In conclusion, the ability of ebselen to prevent against lung damage without blocking NO synthesis suggests that peroxynitrites may have an important role in the pathogenesis of NM toxicity in addition to NO.  相似文献

This study demonstrates the reduction of nickel (Ni) toxicity and enhancing zinc (Zn) bioavailability from sunflower seed with biochar (BC) and chitosan (CH) application to Ni contaminated soil. The pH of experiment soil was adjusted to value 6.5 prior to its use in a greenhouse experiment. Acidified Ni contaminated soil was amended with Zn (4 mg kg?1 soil), while BC and CH, both as alone [1% each (w/w)] and in combination [0.5% each (w/w)], were used as immobilizing agents for Ni. Significantly higher concentrations of Zn were found in seed receiving ZnSO4 treatments. However, these results were more pronounced in the treatment (Zn+CH+BC) where Zn, CH, and BC were together applied. The Zn+CH+BC treatment improved seed quality parameters, phytate/minerals molar ratios, increased seed weight (per pot) up to 75%, Fe 41%, Zn 42% in seed, while reduced Ni concentration up to 17% in seed, over control. Similarly, Zn+CH+BC treatment significantly decreased oxidative stress by improving antioxidant defense system in sunflower. The results of this preliminary study suggest that further studies are obligatory to corroborate the extent of Ni immobilization in soil and enhancing Zn bioavailability from sunflower seed under field conditions with realistic and applicable rates of BC and CH.  相似文献

Abstract

Lucerne (Medicago sativa L.) is grown as a forage crop on many livestock farms. In calcareous soils in eastern Turkey, lucerne production requires boron (B) addition as the soils are naturally B deficient. Field experiments with four B-application rates (0, 1, 3, and 9 kg ha?1 B) were conducted in 2005 and 2006 to determine the optimum economic B rate (OEBR), critical soil test and tissue B values for dry matter (DM) production for lucerne grown on B-deficient calcareous aridisols in eastern Turkey. Boron application increased yield at each site in both years of production. The OEBR and critical soil and tissue B content were not impacted by location. Averaged over the two years and three locations, the OEBR was 6.8 kg B ha?1 with an average DM yield of 12.0 Mg ha?1. The average soil B content at the OEBR was 0.89 mg kg?1 while leaf and shoot tissue B content amounted to 51.8 and 35.5 mg kg?1, respectively. Boron application decreased tissue calcium (Ca), zinc (Zn), and copper (Cu), and increased tissue nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), and manganese (Mn). Tissue and soil B increased without impacting yield at B levels up to 9 kg ha?1. We conclude that 7 kg ha?1 B is sufficient to elevate soil test B levels from 0.11 to 0.89 mg kg?1 and overcome B deficiency at each of the sites in the study. Similar studies with different soils and initial soil test B levels are needed to conclude if these critical soil and tissue values can be applied across the region.  相似文献

This study investigated the effects of black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.), mixed species plantation (MSP) [black locust (R. pseudoacacia L) and stone pine (Pinus pinea L.)] on surface soil properties in eroded clay soils. Three land use types were selected; black locust plantation area (BLP), mixed species plantation (MSP), and adjacent bare fields (control site) (ABA), in a semi-arid region in Artvin, Turkey. The experimental design at each site was a randomized complete block with four replications in each study area. Five disturbed and five undisturbed soil samples were randomly taken at a soil depth of 0–10 and 10–20 cm in each plot. At 0 to 10 cm soil depth in the BLP and MSP sites, and compared to the control site, field capacity (FC), permanent wilting point (PWP), plant available water (PAW), saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat), soil organic matter (SOM), total nitrogen (TN), P2O5, Ca were significantly greater, while bulk density (Db) and C:N ratio were significantly lower. SOM, PAW, TN, Ec, Mg and Ksat decreased significantly in both sites (BLP and MSP), while clay increased significantly in MSP, and PWP and Db increased significantly with soil depth in BLP site. As a result: Althought these species didn't showed good growth in the study area black locust plantation (BLP) and mixed species plantation (MSP) had a positive impact on surface soil properties in clay soils in eroded sites. The planting of “black locust” and “black locust + stone pine” can be useful in soil reclamation projects in this type of eroded site in semi-arid regions.  相似文献

Ongoing global warming may result in colder soil and thawing cycles and will increase the frequency of soil freezing‐and‐thawing‐treated cycles (FTCs) during winter in the cool‐temperate and high‐latitude regions. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of repeated freeze–thaw cycles on the solubility and adsorption of P in lab and field experiments on Pellustert, Argiustoll, Haplustept, Fluvaquent, and Calciorthid soils, the major soil groups in E Turkey. The results demonstrated that, depending on the soil type, the freeze–thaw cycle could increase the adsorption and desorption of P within a certain temperature range. Repeated freezing and thawing decreased equilibrium P concentration (EPC) and increased P adsorption. EPC and P adsorption were strongly correlated with the number of FTCs. The highest P adsorption and the lowest P desorption was found in Pellustert followed by Argiustoll, Calciorthid, Haplustept, Fluvaquent when refrozen at –10°C for 15 d, then thawed at +2.5°C for 18 h, and 9 times FTC. However, in the field study, the adsorption value was lower than the value obtained from the laboratory condition. It appears that increasing the frequency of freeze–thaw processes depending on increase in temperature that leads to decreased plant‐available soil P pools, thus requires more P fertilizer in soil solution to supply adequate P during the plant‐growth period.  相似文献

Salinity is one of the major abiotic stress factors for cultivated plants, limiting their growth and productivity in many areas of the world. This study aims to determine the ameliorative effects of humic acid (HA) and plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPR) on amino acids, enzymes, minerals, organic acids and hormones in Hungarian vetch (Vicia pannonica) plants under salinity stress conditions. Salinity stress was established by adding 0, 10, 30 and 60 mM of sodium chloride (NaCl) to growing media. HA and PGPR treatments had positive ameliorative effects on the minerals, organic acids, hormones and enzyme activity of Hungarian vetch plants under salinity stress conditions. PGPR treatments showed better ameliorative effects than HA. This study suggests that PGPR treatments have the potential to be used as alleviator fertilizer in salinity stress conditions and may have ameliorated the deleterious effects of salt stress on Hungarian vetch plants.  相似文献

Plant regeneration from 9 clones ofPopulus tremula representing diverse genotypes originated from Turkey, has been studied in different media, such as Murashige and Skoog’s Medium (MS), Aspen Culture Medium (ACM) and Woody Plant Medium (WPM) with appropriate supplements of growth regulators. Regeneration efficiency on WPM containing 1 mg/l zeatin using stem explantsin vitro, was higher than on MS and ACM. In this system, the time required for shoot regeneration was 2 weeks, which was shorter by two weeks than that of previous reports. A strong genotype dependence was observed among the tested nine clones. The regeneration system, we describe here, did not involve the callus phase and thus was less prone to somaclonal variation. When adventitious microshoots were cultured on WPM supplemented with 0.5 mg/l or 2 mg/l indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), root formation was obtained after 1 week of culture. Adaptation of regenerated plantletsin vivo was 100%. This system for micropropagation ofPopulus tremula is expected to be suitable for studies on transformation of genes involved in lignin biosynthesis via modification of lignin content.
