Rice shochu distilled residue (RSDR) is a byproduct of rice shochu production. RSDR was converted into vinegar by acetate fermentation. In our present study, two major antioxidant compounds, tyrosol and ferulic acid, were identified from the RSDR-derived vinegar. Furthermore, we investigated the antioxidant activity of freeze-dried RSDR-derived vinegar, which was Acetobactor aceti fermentation powder (AFP), in vitro and in vivo. AFP at 0.25 mg/mL or higher concentrations showed an inhibitory effect against lipid peroxidation and cellular GSH depletion in HepG2 cells induced by H(2)O(2) (P < 0.05). We thus considered the potential of AFP in protecting cells against damage induced by H(2)O(2). Its antioxidant activity was evaluated in vivo using carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4))-induced acute liver injury mouse models. Five consecutive days of oral preadministration of AFP dissolved in PBS at 200, 400, and 800 mg/kg body weight significantly suppressed lipid peroxidation in the liver induced by CCl(4) (P < 0.01). Consequently, treatment with AFP at 200 mg/kg body weight or higher doses suppressed the elevation of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels in serum (P < 0.05). These findings suggest that RSDR-derived vinegar can be developed as a health food with an antioxidant effect for the prevention of oxidative injury and cancer.  相似文献

The determination of the causes for the changes in marine environment in areas with similar oceanic climate forcing on most suitable sites for scallop aquaculture can help to ensure long‐term sustainability of the coastal ecosystem. This study assessed aquaculture suitability sites using dominant indicators of marine ecological dynamics on Japanese scallop culture in Funka and Mutsu Bays, Japan as comparative examples. Data sources comprised of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), four dimensional‐variational (4D‐VAR) data assimilation system, Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS), in situ and buoy measurements. The suitable sites were ranked on a scale of 1 (least suitable) to 8 (most suitable). In the most suitable sites in aquaculture operational areas, Funka Bay had a high proportion (51.1%) than Mutsu Bay (13.7%) for the best performed model. Peaks of aquaculture suitability scores were attributed to potential effects of currents. Extreme sea temperatures (>24°C) in summer 2010 were associated with low performance of the 2010 model in Mutsu Bay and mortality of scallops based on sea temperature‐depth visualizations. Future global warming effects are likely to decrease the most suitable culture sites in Funka Bay and loss of similar areas in Mutsu Bay. Thus, change in marine environment influences scallop culture development. Such concepts could form scientific basis for aquaculture planning on designated system of larval distribution and stock management of cultured species to minimize mortality and economic losses.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   A model experiment in which water was circulated between shrimp aquaculture ponds (Ponds 1, 2, and 5), and mangrove enclosures (Ponds 3 and 4), was carried out at the Samut Songkhram Coastal Aquatic Research Station, Thailand, from March through July 2003. Five ponds with a size of 40 m × 20 m and 1.5 m deep were used for this experiment. Ten thousand shrimp larvae Penaeus monodon at the PL-15 stage were stocked in Ponds 1 and 5, and 20 000 larvae were stocked in Pond 2. Mangrove Rhizophora mucronata (476 trees) had been planted in each of Ponds 3 and 4 in July 2002. Approximately 30% of the water in Ponds 2 and 5 was moved to the mangrove enclosures by siphon (Ponds 3 and 4, respectively) every Thursday, and the same amount was returned to the shrimp ponds by pump every Monday over the 136-day experiment. Shrimp incorporated 30.3, 25.6, and 33.7% of the input nitrogen as feed in Ponds 1, 2, and 5. Since 2.02 kg N in Pond 2 and 0.76 kg N in Pond 5 was transported to the mangrove ecosystem, and 4.26 kg N in Pond 2 and 3.98 kg N in Pond 5 was retained in water and mud, it was estimated that between 2.1 and 5.2 unit areas of mangroves is required to remove the nitrogen remaining in the aquaculture pond.  相似文献

To determine the reproductive season of the giant jellyfish Nemopilema nomurai, we investigated gonadal maturity in specimens collected from the East China Sea, Korea Strait, Wakasa Bay, and the Shonai Coast of Yamagata Prefecture. After the sex of the samples was determined, the long axis of at least 256 oocytes from each female was measured. In specimens collected from the coast of Japan in 2005 and in 2006, all gonads were sufficiently developed to determine sex. However, 18 of the 20 specimens from the East China Sea collected in July 2005 were immature, and sex could not be determined. The maximum and third quartile of oocyte length had a significant correlation with days elapsed from 30 June, but they were not related to bell diameter. Observations of gonad tissue sections of specimens collected in Wakasa Bay in 2006 confirmed that oocyte length was a good proxy for female maturity. Male maturity could also be determined. In conclusion, the sex of all of the small-sized medusae collected along the coast of Japan was determinable, and their gonads were at various stages of development up to fully mature. Therefore, the occurrence of small-sized jellyfish during the autumn in Wakasa Bay is not caused by recruitment of young population from the nearby coast.  相似文献

To develop a simple and reliable method to identify sweetpotato cultivars, we designed cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence (CAPS)-based markers and used them to perform genotyping of Japanese sweetpotato cultivars. In order to screen the CAPS-based markers, 13 primer pairs were designed from the exon sequences of 11 sweetpotato genes to amplify fragments containing an intron. By digesting the amplified products with 8 restriction enzymes having different recognition sites, a total of 27 polymorphic marker fragments were obtained. Genotyping of 60 Japanese sweetpotato cultivars using these markers suggested that the markers can effectively distinguish sweetpotato cultivars. Among the genes used for primer design, the gene encoding the dihydroflavonol 4-reductase (DFR) showed the largest degree of polymorphism. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the development of CAPS-based markers in sweetpotato.  相似文献

In Japan and Southeast Asia, ‘Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus’ (Las) is the dominant causal agent of citrus greening (huanglongbing) disease. Using PCR techniques, we determined the 11168-nucleotide sequence of the ψserA-trmU-tufB-secE-nusG-rplKAJL-rpoB gene cluster and the flanking regions for 51 Japanese, four Taiwanese, four Indonesian, and three Vietnamese isolates of Las. The sequence is identical in 62 isolates collected from Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Vietnam, except for nucleotide substitutions at 11 positions. Some Las isolates from Sakishima Islands near Taiwan had unique nucleotide mutations, but all Las isolates around Okinawa Main Island were homologous. On the basis of the pattern of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the 11 nucleotide substitutions, the 62 Las isolates from Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Vietnam could be divided into 12 pattern groups, and the 51 Japanese isolates consisted of six patterns. The results suggested that one unique genetic group is dominant around Okinawa Main Island, whereas several different are commonly distributed around islands near Taiwan.  相似文献

SUMMARY: Stomach contents were examined from 936 individuals of Mustelus manazo , collected by trawl at five locations: Aomori, Tokyo Bay, Maizuru and Shimonoseki in Japan, and one location off Taiwan. The vacuity index was relatively low (0–6.1%). Based on three indices ( %W , %F , RI ), the major dietary component was crustaceans at all locations. The most important prey category was crabs in Aomori, Shimonosei and Taiwan, mantis shrimps in Tokyo Bay, and shrimps in Maizuru. Fishes were a minor food category for M. manazo in most locations, except in Maizuru where fishes were second in importance in the diet. Dietary overlap revealed a medium degree of overlap between Tokyo Bay and Aomori, and between Tokyo Bay and Shimonoseki. The other locations showed a high degree of overlap with each other. Significant ontogenetic dietary shifts were found in Tokyo Bay, Maizuru and Taiwan, and prey diversity showed a trend being relatively low in larger size classes. The feeding habit of M. manazo was unique in Tokyo Bay, where crustaceans in the muddy substrata were taken in preference to the most abundant benthic prey item available, such as a southern rough shrimp, Trachypenaeus curvirostris . Mustelus manazo appears to use two feeding strategies based upon stomach contents. One, in Tokyo Bay, involved the digging up or removing of burrowing invertebrates from muddy substrata without crushing them. The other, at the other four locations, involved the crushing of prey on the substrata surface.  相似文献

Although there have been some attempts to obtain intergeneric hybrids between Japanese pear (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) and apple (Malus × domestica Borkh.) mature hybrids have not been generated due to hybrid lethality. Shoots from immature hybrid embryos were gamma irradiated and cultured at normal temperature conditions to obtain viable intergeneric plants. Gamma irradiation doses of 50 and 100 Gy cultured at 25 °C killed all shoots but there was one survivor at 150 Gy and 25 °C. Hybrid status of the shoot was confirmed by using morphology, flow cytometry and SSR markers. The intergeneric plant had similar leaf serrations to apple and similar petioles to Japanese pear. Flow cytometric analysis revealed that the intergeneric shoot had a DNA content intermediate between the parents. SSR analysis showed one allele from each parent for all 16 SSR loci investigated. These data strongly suggest that the obtained shoot is a true hybrid between Japanese pear and apple.  相似文献
