The hybrid vigor typical of F1 cultivars is used to boost biomass production of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench). The high dry-matter yielding F1 cultivar Kazetachi uniquely shows extremely late flowering and a long culm, and is greatly different from its parents. We investigated the genetic mechanisms underlying these phenotypes by quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis of recombinant inbred lines derived from a male-fertile line and a restorer line and grown in 3 years. QTL analysis for six traits (days-to-heading, culm length, culm width, culm number, panicle length, panicle number) revealed that the unique phenotypes of the F1 plants were controlled by the genetic combination of 12 or more QTLs detected in at least 2 years. Two putative QTLs for days-to-heading (qDH1 on SBI-01 and qDH6 on SBI-06) would strongly affect the other phenotypes because of their co-localization with QTLs for other traits, as supported by significant phenotypic correlations. These QTLs would be useful for understanding the association of plant type with biomass production in sorghum.  相似文献

The dielectric behavior of native and heat-denatured ovalbumins (OVAs) from three avian species in aqueous solution was examined over a frequency range of 100 kHz to 20 GHz, using the time domain reflectometry (TDR) method. For the native OVA solutions, three kinds of relaxation processes were observed at around 10 MHz, 100 MHz, and 20 GHz, respectively; these could be assigned to the overall rotation of protein molecules, the reorientations of the bound water, and the free water molecules, respectively. For the heat-denatured samples, three relaxation processes were also observed. However, the relaxation process at approximately 100 MHz originated via a different mechanism other than the reorientation of bound water, namely, the micro-Brownian motion of peptide chains of heat-denatured protein. From the observed relaxation process at approximately 100 MHz, the relaxation strength of heat-denatured OVA solution for duck was higher than that of OVA solutions for hen and guinea fowl and showed the pH dependency from pH 7.0 to 8.0 for OVAs obtained from all three species. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that the relaxation strength was closely related to surface hydrophobicity of protein molecules and gel rheological properties. It was suggested that the difference in the surface hydrophobicity of protein influenced the dielectric behavior of water around denatured protein, whereas the dielectric behavior of denatured protein could be an indication of the gel rheological properties. Such studies can aid in the understanding of the different network structures of OVA gels from three avian species.  相似文献

The diet of juvenile (predominantly age 1) southern bluefin tuna Thunnus maccoyii (SBT, N = 720), caught over 11 years of the recruitment monitoring survey off southern Western Australia during summer, consisted overwhelmingly of teleosts (97.4% by volume). Pilchard Sardinops sagax (27.4%V), blue mackerel Scomber australasicus (16.7%V), and jack mackerel Trachurus declivis (14.2%V) were the major taxa, with pilchard more abundant in coastal waters and jack mackerel more frequently encountered in fish caught closer to the shelf-edge. Prey size varied from 5 to 240 mm, with 67% of ingested items measuring between 30 and 50 mm. Pilchard dominated the prey size category 130–190 mm (84% by number), but the overall contribution of this species to the diet of juvenile SBT was much lower than previously reported. Future research in relation to the feeding ecology of juvenile SBT should focus on the biology and ecology of the young lifestages of the main prey species in this area and on prey distribution and dynamics as a key factor linking environmental change and SBT distribution.  相似文献

Urbanization has caused countless changes in the lives, behaviors, and community structures of wild animals. Habitat loss in urban areas has led to the proliferation of certain species over others; in the case of birds, frugivores and certain predators can be found in abundance in cities. These birds, however, occasionally show novel behaviors that can cause stress within human-wildlife interactions. The black kite, Milvus migrans, for example, has displayed a tendency to attack humans for their food in certain urban areas in Japan. In order to determine how habitat availability and land-use types affected these aggressive tendencies, field observations were combined with GIS analysis of five locations along Sagami Bay in Japan. The following locations were assessed according to the amount of each land-use type present and the aggressive tendencies of each location’s black kite population: Enoshima, Fujisawa; Kamakura Beach, Kamakura; Zushi Beach, Zushi; Oiso Beach, Oiso; and Iwa Beach, Manazuru. The aggression of each population, designated by the log of the aggression index, was found to be significantly affected by the amount of forest area per black kite, the amount of non-rice-paddy agricultural area per black kite, and the season. Thus, aggression was higher amongst populations with less forested or agricultural area within their foraging zones, and aggression increased during spring, which is the breeding season.  相似文献

To investigate the durability of structural laminated veneer lumber (LVL), outdoor exposure tests have been conducted since 1990 at a field-testing site at the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute. This article is the second interim report on the results after 9 years of exposure. Seven kinds of structural LVL with no preservative treatment were subjected to the tests. Almost all the exposed specimens were decayed by a kind of brown rot fungi (Pseudomerulius aureus (Fr.) Julich). The degree of decay varied with wood species; grand fir and western hemlock LVL in particular showed weak resistance against the decay. All the specimens were stored for more than 1 year in a testing room conditioned at 20°C and 65% relative humidity. We then measured the ultrasonic velocity of the specimens by the Pundit method, penetration depth by the Pilodyn method, and bending strength by a conventional bending test. Correlation between nondestructive measurement factors and the density was strong even on LVL with many adhesive layers. The nondestructive testing method was found to be applicable to LVL as well as solid lumber. After the nondestructive measurements, each LVL was cut into three types of specimen (top: T, middle: M, and bottom: B) for the bending tests. The bending strength varied with the type of specimens. Correlation between modulus of elasticity and modulus of rupture was strong even in the decayed specimens.  相似文献

In July 2020, a sow in a breeding herd in the Chiba Prefecture, Japan, suffered abortion. A necropsy revealed pale pulmonary foci scattered in the two fetuses. Histologically, multifocal pulmonary necrosis was detected with numerous yeasts. The yeast was positively stained using the periodic acid-Schiff reaction and Grocott’s silver stain. Molecular identification indicated that the yeast was Candida parapsilosis. In conclusion, our results suggested that C. parapsilosis caused multifocal necrotizing pneumonia in the two fetuses. This study is the first report of a swine abortion with C. parapsilosis infection.  相似文献

To investigate the ecological importance of the cellulolytic bacterium Fibrobacter succinogenes in fiber digestion, ruminal distribution of F. succinogenes was determined in relation to its phylogenetic grouping. Rumen digesta from wethers and steers fed orchardgrass hay, rice straw or fresh orchardgrass were employed as the materials for the analyses. Orchardgrass hay stem incubated in the rumen was also used. By using total DNA extracted from these materials, population sizes of total F. succinogenes and of four different phylogenetic groups of this species were quantitated through competitive polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of PCR products targeted the bacterial 16S rDNA. Rumen digesta and ruminally incubated hay stems had a reasonably high population size of F. succinogenes (×107?8/g) that was composed of strains belonging to the phylogenetic groups 1 and 3. The relative abundance of each group was different among the samples; group 1 dominated on the ruminally incubated hay stem and in the rumen of wethers fed fresh orchardgrass, while group 3 was major in the rumen of wethers and steers on hay diet. These results suggest that there could be phenotypic differences among the phylogenetic groups of F. succinogenes, and group 1 dominating on hay stem might contribute to rumen fiber digestion more than the other groups.  相似文献

This study evaluated the occurrence of granulomatous lymphadenitis and its association with Actinobacillus spp. in 151 653 slaughtered pigs. Markedly enlarged pulmonary hilar, mediastinal, mandibular or hepatic lymph nodes were detected in 6 castrated males. The cut surfaces showed multifocal yellow-white lesions. Histologically, gram-negative bacilli were visible in the centers of the lesions with asteroid bodies, epithelioid cells, and multinucleated giant cells. Dense fibrous connective tissue surrounded these granulomatous lesions. Immunohistochemically, the organisms reacted with polyclonal antibodies against Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae serotype 2 in all 6 barrows. The organism was isolated from the lymph nodes of all 6 animals. The results indicate that the granulomatous lymphadenitis was associated with A. pleuropneumoniae serotype 2 and the disorder had a tendency to occur in slaughter barrows.  相似文献

We conducted a meta‐data analysis to develop prediction equations to estimate enteric methane (CH4) emission from beef cattle in Southeast Asia. The dataset was obtained from 25 studies, which included 332 individual observations on nutrient intakes, digestibilities, and CH4 emissions. Cattle were provided tropical forage or rice straw, with or without concentrates in individual pens equipped with indirect open‐circuit head hood apparatus. The simplest and best equation to predict daily CH4 emission was CH4 (g/day) = 22.71 (±1.008) × dry matter intake (DMI, kg/day) + 8.91 (±10.896) [R2 = 0.77; root mean square error (RMSE) = 19.363 g/day]. The best equation to predict CH4 energy as a proportion of gross energy intake (CH4‐E/GEI, J/100 J) was obtained using DMI per body weight (DMIBW, kg/100 kg), content (g/100 g DM) of ether extract (EE) and crude protein (CP), and DM digestibility (DMD, g/100 g); CH4‐E/GEI = ?0.782 (±0.2526) DMIBW ? 0.436 (±0.0548) EE ? 0.073 (±0.0218) CP + 0.049 (±0.0097) DMD + 8.654 (±0.6517) (R2 = 0.39; RMSE = 1.3479 J/100 J GEI). It was indicated that CH4 emissions from beef cattle in Southeast Asia are predictable using present developed models including simple indices.  相似文献
