Two cucumber cultivars (Cucumis sativus L.) exposed to three cadmium (Cd) concentrations (0, 1, and 5 μM) were supplemented or un-supplemented with silicon (Si) (1 mM). Exposure to 1 μM Cd had no effect on shoot and root dry mass, whereas exposure to 5 μM Cd significantly reduced plant growth. Addition of Si stimulated the growth of Cd-treated cucumber. Exposure to 5 μM Cd significantly increased shoot Cd concentration and decreased iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) concentration. Plants supplied with Si had lower Cd and higher Zn and Fe compared with unsupplied plants. Exposure to Cd resulted in a higher production of malondialdehyde (MDA). Si nutrition partly ameliorated lipid peroxidation induced by Cd toxicity. Activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), guaiacol peroxidase (GPX), and catalase (CAT) decreased, whereas ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activity increased in response to 5 μM Cd. Induction of APX activity might play an important role in the response of cucumber to Cd toxicity.  相似文献

The present article was conducted to evaluate the effect of in ovo injection of arginine on hatchability, immune system and caecum microflora of broiler chickens. For this reason, 300 fertile eggs were used in a completely randomized design with three experimental treatments. The experimental groups included: 1%–0.5% l -arginine (100 eggs), 2%–1% l -arginine (100 eggs), 3- control [included both sham control (injection of distilled water; 50 eggs) and control (no injection; 50 eggs)], which were injected on d 14 of incubation. After hatching, chicks of each experimental group (0.5% l -arginine, 1% l -arginine, and control groups) were randomly divided into four equal groups (as replicates) and reared for 30 days. Weight and feeding of chickens were recorded. Next, blood samples of chickens were collected on day 30 to evaluate antibody titre. Also, chickens were slaughtered on 24 and 30 days of the experiment to evaluate immune system organs and caecum microflora. Based on the results, in ovo injection of l -arginine had no significant effect on hatchability, body weight, antibody titre, spleen, bursa of Fabricius and thymus weight (p > .05). On the other hand, treatments significantly affected feed intake and feed conversion ratio (p < .05). As a novel finding, in ovo injection of l -arginine increased caecal Lactobacillus (p < .01), while decreasing Coliform and Escherichia Coli bacteria (p < .01). However, treatments did not influence caecal Enterococcus (p > .05). The overall results indicated that in ovo injection of 0.5% l -arginine had a better improving effect on caecal microflora and then considered as a recommended level of the present experiment.  相似文献

Nigella sativa seeds have multiple industrial and pharmaceutical uses for the diseases treatment such as bronchitis, rheumatism, high blood pressure, cough, eczema, inflammation, and influenza. Although semi-arid areas are suitable for production of annual medicinal plants because they receive favorable amounts of solar radiations, the establishment of these plants' seedling requires frequent irrigations because their seeds are small and the climate is hot at the time of planting. When the irrigation sources are limited, poor establishment and inadequate production will result. Therefore, in order to improve nitrogen (N) in N. sativa seedling establishment, different effects of seed priming treatments were evaluated under drought stress. Different levels of soil moisture (irrigation after 11, 22, 33, and 44 mm of evaporation as no water stress, mild water stress, moderate water stress, and severe water stress, respectively) and seed priming treatments [no priming, potassium nitrate (KNO3), zinc sulfate (ZnSO4), polyethylene glycol 6000, and gibberellic acid (GA)] were evaluated as the main plot and subplot factors, respectively. The results showed that under mild water stress condition, seed priming significantly increased proline content and the highest percentage of emergence was obtained with ZnSO4. Furthermore, the highest amount of soluble protein was observed in the KNO3 treatment and the catalase enzyme content increased in all priming treatments, except polyethylene glycol treatment. Under moderate water stress condition, the KNO3 treatment raised the rate and percentage of emergence and the seedling length. However, under severe water stress condition, the highest percentage of emergence was achieved by GA and ZnSO4 treatments. Moreover, hydropriming and GA produced the highest proline content and seedling dry weight. Under moderate and severe water stress conditions, the hydropriming and ZnSO4 treatments showed a significant increase in catalase activity. It can be concluded that priming of N. sativa seeds with ZnSO4 and GA can alleviate drought stress in the early stages of seedling growth by increasing the antioxidants in the seedlings. Farmers in semi-arid regions can prime N. sativa seeds with these compounds before planting to increase production of this valuable medicinal plant and reduce water consumption.  相似文献

Four types of plant residues (fruit waste, potato, sunflower, and wheat) with wide ranges of carbon to nitrogen (C/N) and carbon to phosphorus (C/P) ratios were added to the soil at the rate of 20 g kg?1 (dry weight basis) and incubated for two months. In soils treated with plant residues, the P sorption ranged from 62.0% (potato) to 96.6% (wheat) and from 12.6% (fruit waste) to 50.6% (wheat) when 20 and 1500 mg P kg?1 were added to the soils, respectively. In general, incorporation of plant residues decreased maximum P sorption capacity but increased bonding energy. The maximum P sorption capacity was reduced from 586 mg kg?1to 500, 542, and 548 by wheat, fruit, and potato residues, respectively, but increased to 665 mg kg?1 by sunflower residue. At higher P addition, the highest percentage of desorbed P was observed in soils treated with wheat residue (49.9%); followed by fruit waste (46.5%), potato (43.5%), sunflower (38.8%) and control soils (37.0%). It indicated that the P content of the organic residues had an important role in the sorption and desorption of P in calcareous soils. Among organic residues, sunflower residue showed high sorption and low desorption of P in soils, indicating a higher potential of this organic residue for P retention and reducing surface and groundwater contamination in calcareous soils.  相似文献

In the this study, we evaluated the effect of replacement of fish meal by a marine microalgae Spirulina platensis on growth, digestive enzyme activities, fatty acid composition and responses to ammonia and hypoxia stress in Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (2.6 ± 0.2 g). Experimental diets contained S. platensis at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% replacement levels. After 8 weeks of feeding trial, growth parameters and proximate body composition were not significantly different among treatments (p > .05). Amylase and lipase activities did not show any significant differences between control group and other experimental diets (p > .05), while activities of trypsin and chymotrypsin were significantly higher in shrimp fed diet with 50% substitution of microalgae compared to control group. Fatty acid contents, particularly polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) including arachidonic acid (ARA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), were significantly higher in control diet compared to other experimental diets. On the contrary, the majority of fatty acids including the contents of PUFAs in the whole body of L. vannamei fed with different levels of S. platensis were significantly higher compared to those of control group. After 48‐h exposure to ammonia, survival per cent was not statistically different between all groups (p > .05), but in hypoxia challenge, the survival per cent of control group was significantly less than that of treatments fed diets contained S. platensis (p < .05). Altogether, o ur results demonstrated the effectiveness of S. platensis as a reliable protein source for substitution of fish meal in shrimp aquaculture.  相似文献

In this study, we evaluated the impact of the catecholamines on growth, swimming motility, biofilm formation and some virulence factors activities of pathogenic Yersinia ruckeri. Norepinephrine and dopamine (at 100 µM) significantly increased the growth of Y. ruckeri in culture media containing serum. An increase in swimming motility of the pathogen was found following the exposure to the hormones; however, no effect was seen on caseinase, phospholipase and haemolysin productions. Further, antagonists for the catecholamine receptors were observed to block some of the influences of the catecholamines. Indeed, the effects of catecholamines were inhibited by chlorpromazine (the dopaminergic receptor antagonist) for dopamine, labetalol (α‐and β‐adrenergic receptor antagonist) and phenoxybenzamine (the α‐adrenergic receptor antagonist) for norepinephrine, but propranolol (the β‐adrenergic receptor antagonist) showed no effect. Pretreatment of Y. ruckeri with the catecholamines resulted in a significant enhancement of its virulence towards rainbow trout and the antagonists could neutralize the effect of the stress hormones in vivo. In summary, our results show that the catecholamines increase the virulence of Y. ruckeri which is pathogenic to trout through increasing the motility, biofilm formation and growth.  相似文献

The dual-mode adsorption model was used to investigate the adsorption behavior of cochineal natural dye on wool fibers. Kinetic, thermodynamic, and equilibrium characteristics were investigated in terms of the adsorption isotherm, affinity, enthalpy and entropy changes, dyeing rate, diffusion coefficient, and activation energy of dye diffusion. The results revealed the prominent role of dyeing pH in determination of dyeing mechanism and dye adsorption isotherm type. At pH 4, dual Langmuir-Nernst model with the highest correlation coefficient was found as the most appropriate isotherm model to describe the adsorption behavior of cochineal onto wool fibers while at pH 6, the adsorption isotherm was the Nernst type. Cochineal adsorption onto wool was exothermic which resulted in progressive fall in affinity and equilibrium dye up-take values with increasing temperature. Moreover, dyeing rate steadily increased with temperature. At pH 4, affinity, dyeing rate, and diffusion coefficient demonstrated higher values compared to pH 6 whereas enthalpy and entropy changes, and activation energy showed lower values. Additionally, negative value for activation energy was obtained at pH 6. The results are deliberated based on the different possible interactions between cochineal dye and wool fiber.  相似文献
