Verticillium wilt, caused by Verticillium dahliae, is the most serious disease in olive cultivation areas in western Turkey. Two hundred and eight isolates of V. dahliae from olive (Olea europea var. sativa) trees were taken for vegetative compatibility analysis using nitrate non-utilizing (nit) mutants. One isolate did not produce a nit mutant. Nit mutants of 207 isolates were tested against tester strains of internationally known vegetative compatibility groups (VCGs) 1A, 2A, 2B, 3, 4A and 4B, and also paired in many combinations among themselves. One hundred and eighty nine of the isolates (90.9%) were strongly compatible with T9, the tester strain of VCG1A, and thus were assigned to VCG1A. Eight isolates were assigned to VCG2A and four isolates to VCG4B. One isolate was heterokaryon self-incompatible (HSI) and five isolates could not be grouped to any of the VCGs tested. Pathogenicity assays were conducted on a susceptible olive cultivar (O. europea cv. Manzanilla) and a susceptible local cotton cultivar (Gossypium hirsutum cv. Çukurova 1518). Both cotton and olive inoculated with all VCG1A isolates showed defoliating symptoms in greenhouse tests. This is the first report on VCGs in V. dahliae from olive trees in Turkey which demonstrates that VCG1A of the cotton-defoliating type is the most commonly detected form from olive plants in the western part of Turkey. 相似文献
Bovine herpesvirus 1 (BoHV1) is the cause of economically significant viral infections in cattle. Respiratory symptoms associated with the infection are known as Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR). Sheep and goats are less sensitive to the infection although their role in inter-species viral transmission under field conditions is subject to controversy. The objective of this study was to investigate seroprevalence of BoHV1 infections in cattle, sheep, and goats raised together for at least a year. Blood serum samples were taken from 226 cattle, 1.053 sheep, and 277 goats from 17 small- to medium-scale farms. BoHV1-specific antibody presence and titers were determined using virus neutralization test. In total, 73 of the 226 cattle (32.3%) were seropositive. The infection was detected in 13 of the 17 farms. Infection rates ranged from 5.8 to 88.8%. Only one of the 1053 sheep (0.09%) was seropositive. However, 58 of the 277 (20.9%) goats were seropositive. Goat samples taken from 8 of the 17 farms were seropositive with infection rates ranging from 17 to 38.9%. Statistical analysis showed a significant correlation in infection rates between cattle and goats but not sheep. These results suggest that goats may be more sensitive to the BHV1 infection than sheep and the role of goats as possible reservoirs for BoHV1 in the control and eradication of BHV1 in cattle should be considered in future studies.
In this study, pathological, serological and virological examinations were performed on 15 sheep from a flock of 250 sheep
and lambs that suffer from simultaneous naturally occurring BTV, PPRV and SPV outbreaks. SPV was diagnosed macroscopically
and histopathologically, BTV was diagnosed by ELISA, and PPRV was diagnosed pathologically and by ELISA. Clinically fever,
diarrhea, depression, polypnea, conjunctivitis, lacrimation, rhinitis, erosive stomatitis, edema of eyelids, photophobia,
cutaneous eruption with erythematous areas especially noticeable in wool-free parts of the body and axilla lesions evolving
into papules were observed. At necropsy, the most effected organs were lungs and gut. Subepicardial hemorrhages were also
commonly seen. While typical pox lesions were observed in some lambs, usually fibrinous pleuropneumonia was more prominent
lung lesion. SPV and PPRV lesions were seen at the histopathological examination of the lesioned tissues, BT lesions were
mild than SPV and PPRV microscopically. Serum and leukocyte samples of 15 animals were examined for PPRV and BTV by ELISA;
5 samples were positive for PPRV and 6 BTV, 4 were positive for both PPRV and BTV simultaneously. One hundred animals died,
most were lambs. Mortality rates were 100% in lambs and 80% in the herd. 相似文献
Northern bluefin tuna (NBT) are a prominent marine pelagic fish species. There are few reference values for their blood chemistry and this is the first report to demonstrate blood biochemical values in the Eastern Mediterranean. The study was carried out with 60 captive (penned) and 60 wild NBTs from Ildir Bay (Izmir) and Antalya Bay in the Eastern Mediterranean, from winter to early summer 2003. The aim of this research was to determine the biochemical parameters of wild male/female and captive male/female NBTs. According to the present results, the blood biochemical values of the captive NBTs were significantly higher than those of wild NBTs ( P <0.05) except albumin, globulin, total protein and very low-density lipoprotein levels. Moreover, many of the biochemical parameters were detected at high levels in captive and wild male NBTs than those of the females. Especially, the values of glucose, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine phosphokinase, γ-glutamyl transferase, cholesterol, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein, ferritin, transferrin and iron levels were significantly higher, although high-density lipoprotein values were significantly lower in wild and captive male samples than those of both groups of females ( P <0.05). 相似文献
The reduction of trichloroethylene (TCE) in the gas phase byFe° was examined under water vapor saturatedconditions (relative humidity (RH) = 100%). The reactionconformed to first-order rate kinetics under anaerobic(N2 atmosphere) conditions and acid-washedFe°exhibited a faster TCE removal rate than unamended (partially oxidized) Fe°, i.e., kobs = 0.015 h-1 versus0.012 h-1. Analysis of the two types of Fe° showedthat 40.3% of the unamended Fe° surface was nonreactive. Experiments with iron oxides, which form commonly on the surface of Fe° exposed to humid air (magnetiteand maghemite), showed that these solids were nonreactive with TCE under anaerobic conditions. Under aerobic conditions (air),TCE reduction occurred in two distinct phases. There was a fastinitial rate followed by a slower later rate of reduction when the oxide layer was formed. Further experiments showed that theFe° surface was saturated with TCE at higher concentrations (K1/2 = 5,397.4 ± 345.4 ppmv) and thatoxygen acted as an irreversible inhibitor of TCE reduction(maximum rate of reaction decreased when oxygen was present). 相似文献
