The ‘earthy’ and ‘muddy’ off‐flavours in pond‐reared fish are due to the presence of geosmin or 2‐methylisoborneol in the flesh of the fish. Similar off‐flavours have been reported in fish raised in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS); however, little information is available regarding the cause of these off‐flavours. Our hypothesis was that earthy and muddy off‐flavour compounds, found previously in pond‐raised fish, are also responsible for off‐flavours in fish raised in RAS. In this preliminary study, we examined water, biofilms in RAS and fillets from cultured arctic charr known to have off‐flavours and requiring depuration using instrumental [solid‐phase microextraction procedure and gas chromatograph‐mass spectrometry (GC‐MS)] and human sensory analyses. Geosmin was present in the samples taken from the biofilter and on the side walls of the tanks. Two‐methylisoborneol was only found in low levels in the samples. The GC‐MS results indicated the presence of geosmin in the fillets (705 ng kg?1), but lower levels were found in the water (30.5 ng L?1). Sensory analyses also detected an earthy flavour (i.e., geosmin presence) in the fillets, and, therefore, it appears that geosmin is the main compound responsible for the off‐flavour in RAS. The purpose of the present study was to examine the antigenicity of turkey coronavirus (TCV) isolates from various geographic areas with antibodies to different viruses. Seventeen isolates of TCV were recovered from intestinal samples submitted to Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Purdue University, from turkey farms located in different geographic areas. The prototype TCV Minnesota isolate (TCV-ATCC) was obtained from the American Type Culture Collection. Intestinal sections were prepared from turkey embryos infected with different TCV isolates and reacted with polyclonal or monoclonal antibodies to TCV, infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), bovine coronavirus (BCV), transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), reovirus, rotavirus, adenovirus, or enterovirus in immunofluorescent antibody staining. All 18 TCV isolates have the same antigenic reactivity pattern with the same panel of antibodies. Positive reactivity was seen with polyclonal antibodies to the TCV Indiana isolate, the TCV Virginia isolate, TCV-ATCC, and the IBV Massachusetts strain as well as monoclonal antibodies to the TCV North Carolina isolate or the membrane protein of IBV. Antibodies to BCV or TGEV were not reactive with any of the TCV isolates. Reactivity of antibodies to unrelated virus, rotavirus, reovirus, adenovirus, or enterovirus with different TCV isolates was all negative, except positive response was seen between enterovirus antibody and a TCV western North Carolina isolate, suggesting coinfection of turkeys with TCV and enterovirus in that particular case. A high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the determination of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, oxindanac, in calf plasma is described. Recoveries over the concentration range 0.3 75 to 62.5 μg/ml were 90.2–107.8% with interassay coefficients of variation of 2.1–22.3%. The limit of detection was estimated as 0.10 μg/ml and the limit of quantification calculated to be 0.24 pg/ml in a 1 ml plasma sample. This method was used to establish the pharmacokinetics following intravenous (i.v.), intramuscular (i.m.) and oral (p.o.) administration to calves of oxindanac at a dose rate of 2 mg/kg. The elimination t 1 /2 , was long ( t 1/2 21.2 h after i.v. injection) and absorption was rapid (t1 /2B 0.072 h) and complete ( F > 100%) following i.m. administration. Bioavailability was incomplete ( F = 66.6%) following p.o. administration to calves that had been fed on milk, and Wagner-Nelson analysis revealed twoabsorption phases ( t 1 /2 's 0.20 and 1.9 h). Oxindanac produced long-lasting inhibition of serum TxB2 production, with mean kmax values (% inhibition) of 96.8, 94.1 and 81.3 following i.v., i.m. and p.0. administration, respectively. 基于2015年1-5月观测的设施栽培油桃(Prunus persica var.nectarina Maxim)物候期和日光温室内外气温、地温等数据,系统研究了油桃在整个物候期内温室内外气温、地温的变化规律。结果表明,温室栽培油桃的物候期较露地栽培油桃提前50 d左右。油桃萌芽、开花期,温室内的平均气温可达到11.8~13.7℃,最低气温在5℃左右,此气温水平较好满足了油桃萌芽、开花的需要。果实膨大期及成熟期内,温室内平均气温为14.9~24.1℃,但最高气温有时达30℃以上,应注意及时通风降温,延长温室的通风降温时间。温室内外气温在不同天气条件下日变化均呈"单峰"型,晴天温室内外日温差比阴天大,温室内的气温始终高于室外的气温。1月下旬至3月中旬,日光温室内5 cm土层的平均地温为13.5~17.2℃,地温不能满足油桃根系生长发育的需求。不同天气条件下日光温室内外地温的日变化趋势与气温变化基本一致,温室外地温日变化与温室外气温日变化具有相关性;温室内地温日变化较平稳,最高地温较最高气温出现的时间存在滞后现象。 相似文献

选择18头体重20kg左右的太湖二元杂交小公猪,分成A、B、C3组,每组6头。A组为对照组;B组颈部肌肉注射生长激素(PST)4ml/头;C组颈部肌肉注射PST脂质体28mg/头;结果表明PST与PST脂质体对育猪的生产性能影响较为接近,与对照组相比,均可显著提高育肥猪的日增重,饲料报酬,改善猪的胴体品质,说明PST脂质体可代替PST用于生产实践。 相似文献
