The EPPO Decision‐support scheme (DSS) for Pest Risk Analysis (PRA) was fundamentally revised by the PRATIQUE EU project. Based on the examples of Polygonum perfoliatum (mile‐a‐minute‐weed) and Eichhornia crassipes (water hyacinth), its applicability for invasive alien plants was tested. By means of a comparison of the risk analysis procedures with EPPO schemes before and after the project, pest group specific enhancements are outlined. For the two plants tested here, documented invasion history as well as biotic and abiotic requirements show that they can establish and spread in Europe and cause damage. PRATIQUE revisions to the EPPO DSS increased transparency, user friendliness and consistency for PRAs on invasive alien plants. This was accomplished through more comprehensive rating guidance, and aspects such as allowing individual risk elements to be documented and summarized to give a conclusive end result.  相似文献

Therapy for pyothorax, or pleural empyema, has not been described for large felids. This case describes the successful treatment of pyothorax in a captive, large felid. A 15-yr-old multiparous, female Amur tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) presented with nonspecific clinical signs caused by an insidious onset of pyothorax. Management of pyothorax cases in companion animals often involves thoracostomy tube placement with recurrent drainage of the pleural cavity, intensive supportive care, and monitoring. In this case, conservative management was elected because hospitalization was not a viable option. Thoracocentesis was performed to drain as much fluid from the chest cavity as possible, yielding more than 1.3 L. Corynebacterium sp. and unidentified anaerobic gram-positive cocci were cultured. Treatment included cefovecin subcutaneously, oral antibiotic therapy with clindamycin and marbofloxacin, meloxicam, and restricted exercise by minimizing access to the main exhibit. Significant improvement was noted clinically and radiographically 6 wk later, and no relapses were noted in the following weeks. An examination 11.5 mo later confirmed resolution.  相似文献

 The aim of this study was to measure the pressures exerted by earthworms during burrowing. For this purpose we developed two methods with which to quantify the axial and radial pressure. The data were recorded with an electronic balance that was connected to a PC. Artificial earthworm burrows were used to standardize the measurements. Plexiglas tubes with diameters ranging from 2 to 6.3 mm which corresponded to the diameter of the earthworms were used. A pin was placed inside the tubes, on which the earthworms exerted a pressure by peristaltic locomotion. Only the maximum values of the pressure measurement were taken into account for evaluation, and the arithmetic mean was calculated. The measurements were conducted with Aporrectodea longa, Lumbricus terrestris, Aporrectodea caliginosa, Octolasion cyaneum, Allolobophora chlorotica, Aporrectodea rosea, Lumbricus rubellus and Dendrobaena octaedra. The species examined were classified into ecological groups. The mean axial pressures exerted by each group were in the order: epigeic (14–25 kPa), endogeic (27–39 kPa) and anecic (46–65 kPa). For the mean radial pressure the order was: epigeic (39–63 kPa), anecic (72–93 kPa) and endogeic (59–195 kPa). Continuing our search for natural product and natural product-based compounds for the control of off-flavor in catfish, 29 stilbene analogues were synthesized and evaluated for algicidal activity against the 2-methylisoborneol (MIB)-producing cyanobacterium Oscillatoria perornata. The cis and trans isomers of 4-(3,5-dimethoxystyryl)aniline showed moderate and selective algicidal activity toward O. perornata with the lowest observed inhibitory concentration and lowest complete inhibition concentrations of 10 muM. This is the first report on selective stilbene algicidal activity toward a MIB-producing cyanobacteria species.  相似文献

The radish displays great morphological variation but the genetic factors underlying this variability are mostly unknown. To identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) controlling radish morphological traits, we cultivated 94 F4 and F5 recombinant inbred lines derived from a cross between the rat-tail radish and the Japanese radish cultivar ‘Harufuku’ inbred lines. Eight morphological traits (ovule and seed numbers per silique, plant shape, pubescence and root formation) were measured for investigation. We constructed a map composed of 322 markers with a total length of 673.6 cM. The linkage groups were assigned to the radish chromosomes using disomic rape-radish chromosome-addition lines. On the map, eight and 10 QTLs were identified in 2008 and 2009, respectively. The chromosome-linkage group correspondence, the sequence-specific markers and the QTLs detected here will provide useful information for further genetic studies and for selection during radish breeding programs.  相似文献

The fate of the insecticidal Cry1Ab protein from crop residues (leaves and roots) of the transgenic maize variety MON810 was studied in the presence and absence of two earthworm species (Lumbricus terrestris, Aporrectodea caliginosa; separate incubations) in soil microcosms. The recombinant Cry1Ab protein was quantified using a highly sensitive ELISA. Control microcosms received corresponding non-transgenic plant material. All earthworms survived in the microcosms over a period of 5 weeks, irrespective of whether they received MON810 or non-transgenic plant material. Weight loss was observed for both earthworm species, independent of the plant material or transgenic modification. A strong decline of immunoreactive Cry1Ab in plant residues (mean initial concentration approx. 5000 ng g−1) of MON810 was observed in all treatments, but in microcosms with earthworms this decline was significantly higher with less than 10% of the initial Cry1Ab concentration remaining after 5 weeks. Cry1Ab concentrations in casts were only 0.1% of those found in remaining plant material of the respective microcosms. No immunoreactive Cry1Ab proteins were found in earthworm tissues (threshold of detection: 0.58 ng g−1 fresh weight). No further decline was found for Cry1Ab concentrations in casts of A. caliginosa during a subsequent period of 3 months of incubation in bulk soil (<0.1 ng g−1) after removal of the earthworms from the microcosms, while in casts of L. terrestris the concentration decreased from 0.4 to below 0.1 ng g−1. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that earthworms enhance the decline of immunoreactive Cry1Ab proteins from maize residues.  相似文献

Osteosarcoma in cats: 22 cases (1974-1984)   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Osteosarcoma was diagnosed in 22 cats. Diagnosis was based on results of physical, radiographic, and histologic findings. Fifteen tumors arose from the appendicular skeleton, 4 from the skull, 2 from the pelvis, and 1 from a rib. Radiography revealed that in 14 of 15 cats (93%) with appendicular tumors, the lesion was metaphyseal, primarily lytic, with a "moth-eaten" appearance; absence and presence of periosteal new bone formation were associated with the tumors in 12 and 3 cats, respectively. The remaining 7 cats had axial tumors that were characterized by the presence of periosteal new bone formation in addition to bony lysis. Of the 15 cats with appendicular tumors, 12 were treated by amputation and 3 were euthanatized at the time of diagnosis. Of the cats undergoing amputation for treatment of their appendicular tumors, 6 cats were still alive 64 months after surgery (range, 13 to 64 months); the median survival time of the 5 cats (1 cat was lost to follow-up evaluation) that died was 49.2 months (range, 1 to 122 months). Four of 12 cats (33%) survived greater than or equal to 5 years after diagnosis. Of the cats with axial tumors that were not euthanatized at the time of diagnosis (6 of 7), the median survival time was 5.5 months. Based on these findings, we concluded that cats with appendicular osteosarcoma have a better prognosis than those with axial osteosarcoma, and that amputation is a viable treatment for cats with appendicular osteosarcoma.  相似文献

Regeneration of compacted soil aggregates by earthworm activity   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Soil compaction is a problem of modern agriculture, caused by heavy machinery when used in unsuitable, especially moist, conditions. Some regeneration processes in compacted loess soil were studied in a field experiment near Relliehausen, at the edge of the Solling mountains in Lower Saxony, Germany. Conventional tillage (CT) and conservation tillage (CS) systems were compared. The compaction was induced by the use of different wheel loads. The influence of earthworms was determined by comparing soil aggregates and casts with respect to dry and moist porosity, swelling, and water stable aggregation. For visualisation of the microstructure, a scanning electron microscope was used. The casts were obtained from two earthworm species living for 6 months in the laboratory in monoliths, taken on the plots after the wheeling procedure. The casts showed 10-20% higher values for porosity and about 50% higher swelling values than comparable soil aggregates, while the relative water stability was ca. 10% lower. We conclude that casts are looser and less stable than aggregates from the soil the earthworms ingested. To show the ecological relevance of the changes in the casts, the cast production per hectare per year was calculated. It was especially high in the most loaded soil under CS with endogeic species.  相似文献

 探索套袋果实微域温湿度变化规律有助于进一步优化套袋栽培技术。本试验中采用温、湿度自动监测仪, 研究了套袋及除袋技术对果实微域温湿度的影响。结果表明, 套袋和除袋方法以及外界环境条件变化都能在一定程度上影响袋内微域温湿度及其果实表面温度。在一天中不同时刻除袋, 套袋果表面温度与气温和裸露果表面温度有所不同。除袋方法对果实温度有一定影响, 分次除袋更有利于果实对强光的适应。  相似文献
