In this paper, we estimate the distribution of population by exposure to multiple airborne pollutants, taking into account the spatio-temporal variability of daily air quality and the high-resolution spatial spread of human population around Europe. In particular, we consider monitoring network data for five pollutants, namely carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, coarse and fine particulate matters. The spatial information contained in the large dataset of daily continental air quality is exploited using a multivariate spatio-temporal model capable to cover cross correlation among pollutants, covariates, and missing data as well as spatial and temporal variability and correlation. At the same time, the model is simple enough to be feasible for the large dataset of daily continental air quality over three years. Maximum likelihood estimation is performed using the EM algorithm, and kriging-like spatial estimates are used to compute high-resolution exposure distribution. Moreover, a novel semi-parametric bootstrap technique is used to assess the exposure distribution uncertainty. In this way, we compare the daily population exposure of 33 European countries and three important metropolitan areas in years 2009–2011 using a single flexible model. Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune permanent enteropathy that is triggered in susceptible individuals after the ingestion of gluten, a storage protein fraction presents in wheat, rye and barley endosperm. Specific gluten peptides can bind to HLA-DQ2/8 and induce lamina propria CD4+ T cell responses causing damage of the small intestine mucosa. Recent studies suggested that beside immunodominant and toxic epitopes, wheat gluten also contains epitopes capable of preventing the mucosal response in vitro. Among them, a decapeptide (QQPQDAVQPF) from wheat was reported to have an antagonist effect on the agglutination of K562(S) cells and celiac T-cell activation, although the corresponding nucleotidic sequence remained unknown. This study was therefore designed to clone the sequence encoding the protein carrying the decapetide with CD protective properties. A ω-secalin gene encoding containing the decapeptide QQPQRPQQPF was isolated. Although the decapeptide was not identical to the one previously described, QQPQRPQQPF showed the same capability to prevent K562(S) cell agglutination and celiac mucosa immune activation induced by toxic gliadins. The ω-secalin gene was found in wheat carrying the wheat–rye chromosomal translocations 1BL.1RS. The identification of this immunomodulatory gliadin sequence, naturally occurring in cultivars of wheat toxic for celiac patients, might offer new therapeutic strategies for CD. 相似文献

Two new sulfoxide-containing metabolites, aplisulfamines A and B, have been isolated from an Aplidium sp. collected in the Bay of Naples. Their planar structure and geometry of a double bond were readily determined by using standard methods, mainly NMR spectroscopy. An original approach was used to assign the absolute configuration at the three contiguous chiral centers present in the structures of both aplisulfamines, two at carbon and one at sulfur. This involved Electronic Circular Dichroism (ECD) studies, J-based configuration analysis and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations and represents an interesting integration of modern techniques in stereoanalysis, which could contribute to the enhancement of theoretical protocols recently applied to solve stereochemical aspects in structure elucidation. 相似文献

High-resolution interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) permanent scatterer data allow us to resolve the rates and variations in the rates of slow-moving landslides. Satellite-to-ground distances (range changes) on landslides increase at rates of 5 to 7 millimeters per year, indicating average downslope sliding velocities from 27 to 38 millimeters per year. Time-series analysis shows that displacement occurs mainly during the high-precipitation season; during the 1997-1998 El Ni?o event, rates of range change increased to as much as 11 millimeters per year. The observed nonlinear relationship of creep and precipitation rates suggests that increased pore fluid pressures within the shallow subsurface may initiate and accelerate these features. Changes in the slope of a hill resulting from increases in the pore pressure and lithostatic stress gradients may then lead to landslides. 相似文献

An automated on-line solid-phase extraction-liquid chromatography-electrospray tandem mass spectrometry (SPE-LC-ESI-MS/MS) method was developed for the determination of ochratoxin A (OTA) in alcoholic beverages. Mean recoveries for wine and beer were, respectively, 75 and 82%. Detection was achieved in negative ionization with a Q TRAP mass spectrometer operating in multiple-reaction monitoring (MRM) mode or enhanced product ion (EPI) mode, using the third quadrupole as linear ion trap. The MRM mode turned out to be more sensitive; the method allowed accurate determination of OTA in the range of 0.01-25 ng mL(-1) using external calibration. Within-day and between-day relative standard deviation percentages were <6.2 and <9.1%, respectively. In EPI mode, fragmentation spectra at the limit of quantification (0.03 ng mL(-1)) and good linearity could be obtained. Application of the method (MRM mode) to the analysis of several wine and beer samples purchased in local stores revealed OTA levels in the ranges of 0.03-1.44 ng mL(-1) for wines and 0.02-0.14 ng mL(-1) for beers. 相似文献

The right humerus was removed from 30 20-week-old male turkey poults for humerus strength analysis using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry and humerus-breaking strength. Specimens were cleaned and dried before scanning. To determine the most precise and accurate protocol of bone densitometry analysis for avian long bones, we scanned each specimen using five different techniques, all aimed to simulate soft-tissue thickness. Correlation coefficients and linear regression equations between 1) bone mineral content and humerus ash, and 2) bone mineral density and humerus-breaking strength were estimated with each technique and compared. The coefficient of variation values for precision ranged from 0.40% to 1.69% for bone mineral content and from 0% to 4.19% for bone mineral density. The accuracy was determined by comparing the bone mineral content of each humerus with the corresponding ash weight; the correlation coefficients between the two parameters were highly significant (range 0.949-0.963; P < or = 0.01). Significant correlations were also observed between humerus-breaking strength and bone density measurements (range 0.762-0.785; P < or = 0.01). Linear regression coefficients relating both parameters considered were also highly significant. We concluded that dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry is an accurate and precise method with which to determine ex vivo bone mineral content and strength in turkey bones. Further investigations are requested for field applications of this method to study factors affecting bone physiology and strength. 相似文献

A sequential chemical fractionation was applied to a compost, with its dissolved organic matter (DOM) extracted in water and separated in hydrophilic (HiDOM) and hydrophobic (HoDOM) components and a water extract, following oxidation of compost suspension with an oxygen flux (TEA). The components sequentially isolated by mild extractions and hydrolyses as structurally unbound (SU), weakly bound (WB), and strongly bound (SB) to the matrix of the bulk compost and its water-soluble fractions were identified in their molecular structure. The bulk compost was rich with components derived from both aromatic (phenolic compounds) and aliphatic (long-chain fatty acids, hydroxy acids, diacids, and alcohols) structures of suberins, whereas components derived from cutins were especially extracted from TEA, HoDOM, and HiDOM. The TEA sample also yielded a significant amount of oxidized products that was dominated by dehydroabietic acids. The fractionation sequence highlighted the different intermolecular interactions that bound the isolated molecular components to the compost complex matrix. While a significant part of the bulk compost was still present as a solid residue at the end of the sequential fractionation, all water-soluble fractions were almost completely hydrolyzed. These results indicate that the water-soluble components of compost may be readily separated from the compost matrix and contribute to the environmental dynamics of natural organic matter. 相似文献

Artificial inoculation with fungal species involved in the Petri disease was performed on in vitro grapevine shoots. After 2 months, plantlets were observed and the presence of any leaf chlorosis or necrosis, considered as symptoms of the disease, were recorded. The fungal inoculation caused an increase in the number of symptomatic in vitro plants and in the incidence of external symptoms. Recovery of the fungal species was obtained after incubation of excised tissue fragments from the inoculated in vitro plants while some fertile fragments were collected also from plants without external symptoms. Higher levels of symptoms were observed in the rootstock varieties inoculated with Phaeomoniella chlamydospora while the lowest incidence was observed in the Aglianico cultivar. The possibility to correlate the visual assessment of in vitro plants with the data obtained by the analysis of digital images was confirmed. 相似文献
