In Ehime Prefecture, Japan, lettuce leaf spot (Septoria lactucae) caused huge losses in marketable lettuce yields. To explore potential measures to control disease outbreaks, the effects
of inoculum density, leaf wetness duration and nitrate concentration on the development of leaf spot on lettuce (Lactuca sativa) were evaluated. Conidia were collected from diseased plants in an infested field by single-spore isolation and were used
to inoculate potted lettuce plants with different conidial concentrations. Lesions developed on inoculated lettuce plants
at inoculum concentrations from 100 to 106 conidia/ml. The disease was more severe when the inoculum exceeded 102 conidia/ml, and severity increased with increasing concentrations. Assessment of the relationship between disease development
and the duration of postinoculation leaf wetness revealed that symptoms appeared when the inoculated plants remained wet for
12 h or longer. The number of lesions and total nitrogen content in the lettuce leaves both increased when nitrate was applied. 相似文献

Strawberry pear (pitahaya, pitaya) [Hylocereus undatus (Haw.) Britt. and Rose] postharvest fruit rot was found at an agricultural products store in Itoman city, Okinawa Prefecture
in 2006. The symptoms included depressed, water-soaked lesions with olive to black powdery spots coalescing into a soft rot.
The causal fungus was identified as Bipolaris cactivora (Petrak) Alcorn. This is the first report of strawberry pear fruit rot caused by B. cactivora. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: Although the bronze featherback Notopterus notopterus is an important fish in South-East Asia, the population structure has not been investigated. In this study, genetic diversity and population structure of the bronze featherback were examined using nucleotide sequence analysis of the mitochondrial DNA control region for 332 fish collected from Tonle Sap Lake and the Mekong River in Cambodia. The average nucleotide diversity (π) of all samples was 0.033, and the Mekong River samples had higher nucleotide diversity (0.034) than Tonle Sap Lake samples (0.028). The nucleotide diversity between the lake and river samples varied from 0.029 to 0.037. The genetic differentiation between the river and lake populations was also supported by the pairwise F -statistic values and hierarchical analysis of molecular variance, indicating that the Tonle Sap Lake population is genetically isolated from the population in main stream of the Mekong River. 相似文献

Keratinocyte differentiation-associated protein, Kdap, is a recently identified small secretory protein that may act as a soluble regulator for the cornification and/or desquamation of keratinocytes. To clarify the role of Kdap in the terminal differentiation of keratinocytes, detailed in situ localisation of Kdap was studied using canine skin with normal, hyperplastic and neoplastic epidermis. In normal canine trunk skin, Kdap was expressed by granular keratinocytes, with polarity to the apical side of the cells, suggesting that canine Kdap is present in lamellar granules, as in humans. Expression of Kdap was widespread in the spinous layers in hyperplastic epidermis, but was undetectable in squamous cell carcinomas. These findings suggest that Kdap is closely related to the delay of terminal differentiation and/or release of cells in hyperplastic epidermis. 相似文献

This study evaluated the osteoanagenetic effects of administering biodegradable gelatin β-tri calcium phosphate sponges containing mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) on equine bone defect. Six healthy Thoroughbred horses were used in this study. Horses were anesthetized, and skin incisions were made on all the limbs. Splint bones were exposed and a 1-cm bone defect was created in each exposed bone. Gelatin β-tri calcium phosphate sponges containing MSC and BMP-2 (MSC + BMP-2 sponge), MSC only (MSC sponge), BMP-2 only (BMP-2 sponge), or saline (saline sponge) were implanted into each bone defect at random. Defects were monitored for 16 weeks by radiography followed by computed tomography (CT) and histologic analyses. At 16 weeks, radiographic scores of MSC + BMP-2 sponge-treated defects were significantly higher than those of saline-treated defects (P = .027). Moreover, the CT value of the MSC + BMP-2 sponge group was significantly higher than that of the other groups (P = .027; P = .046; and P = .027, respectively), and the histologic score of the MSC + BMP-2 sponge group was significantly greater than that of the saline sponge group (P = .041). We conclude that MSC + BMP-2 sponge administration to bone defects accelerates bone regeneration in equines. 相似文献

Chronologies for Late Quaternary marine sediment records are usually based on radiocarbon ages of planktonic foraminifera. Signals carried by other sedimentary components measured in parallel can provide complementary paleoclimate information. A key premise is that microfossils and other indicators within a given sediment horizon are of equal age. We show here that haptophyte-derived alkenones isolated from Bermuda Rise drift sediments are up to 7000 years older than coexisting planktonic foraminifera. This temporal offset, which is apparently due to lateral transport of alkenones on fine-grained particles from the Nova Scotian margin, markedly influences molecular estimates of sea surface temperatures. More broadly, the observation raises questions about both the temporal and the geographic fidelity of paleoenvironmental records encoded by readily transported components of sediments. 相似文献

The potential of catch per unit effort (CPUE) analysis based on statistics of local fisheries in Tonle Sap Lake in Cambodia
was evaluated. The fishery statistics system was improved through a cooperative project conducted by the Department of Fisheries
and the Mekong River Commission between 1994 and 2000, especially in the seven provinces adjacent to Tonle Sap Lake. However,
the fisheries statistics were not effectively utilized for sustainable stock management. After the cooperative project, fish
catch data sorted by species or species group were collected at the province level in the seven provinces. Another recent
project also revealed the numbers of fishing gears that operated in the seven provinces. The CPUEs of ten species in Kampong
Thom Province—including Channa micropeltes and Cirrhinus spp.—could be calculated from 1994 to 2007, because these are caught solely using bamboo fence systems or barrages. CPUE
analysis clarified that stocks of high-price fishes such as Ch. micropeltes, Hampala spp., and Pangasius spp. have deteriorated while those of relatively low-price fishes such as Cirrhinus spp., Cirrhinus microlepis, Cyclocheilichthys enoplos, and Channa striata have increased in recent decades. 相似文献

A 15-day-old Holstein calf with lethargy and tachypnea presented to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine for evaluation of suspected congenital heart defect. A Levine grade 6 systolic murmur was noted at right apical site auscultation and phonocardiogram also recorded systolic a murmur. Electrocardiography findings include increased R and S waves, R wave split, and negative T waves without arrhythmia. Echocardiography revealed a single ventricle with a trace of the right ventricular wall, atrioventricular valve regurgitation, and turbulent in a single ventricle. Arterial blood analysis showed a marked decrease in oxygen saturation of 78% and oxygen partial pressure of 44 mmHg. Post-mortem examination confirmed the diagnosis of a single left ventricle. 相似文献
