Enzymatic acidolysis of borage oil (BO) or evening primrose oil (EPO) with eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5n-3; EPA) was studied. Of the six lipases that were tested in the initial screening, nonspecific lipase PS-30 from Pseudomonas sp. resulted in the highest incorporation of EPA into both oils. This enzyme was further studied for the influence of enzyme load, temperature, time, type of organic solvent, and mole ratio of substrates. The products from the acidolysis reaction were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC). The highest incorporation of EPA in both oils occurred at 45-55 degrees C and at 150-250 enzyme activity units. One unit of lipase activity was defined as nanomoles of fatty acids (oleic acid equivalents) produced per minute per gram of enzyme. Time course studies indicated that EPA incorporation was increased up to 26.8 and 25.2% (after 24 h) in BO and EPO, respectively. Among the solvents examined, n-hexane served best for the acidolysis of EPA with both oils. The effect of the mole ratio of oil to EPA was studied from 1:1 to 1:3. As the mole ratio of EPA increased, the incorporation increased from 25.2-26.8 to 37.4-39.9% (after 24 h). The highest EPA incorporations of 39.9 and 37.4% in BO and EPO, respectively, occurred at the stoichiometric mole ratio of 1:3 for oil to EPA.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the pharmacokinetics of marbofloxacin (MAR) following intravenous (iv) and intramuscular (im) administration of a 2.0 mg/kg body weight dosage to five healthy Egyptian buffalo steers. A cross-over design was used with a washout period of 2 weeks. Blood samples were obtained at 0, 5,10,15, and 20 min and at 0.5,0.75,1,2,4,6,8,10,12,24,30 and 48 hours after marbofloxacin administration.The serum marbofloxacin concentrations were quantitated using a modified agar diffusion bioassay method. Marbofloxacin exhibited a relatively high volume of distribution at steady-state (Vdss = 1.77 Lkg), which suggests good tissue penetration, and a total body clearance (Cltot) of 0.18 L/kgxh,which is associated with a long elimination half-life (tl/2beta = 7.52 h). Marbofloxacin was rapidly absorbed at a dosage of 2.0 mg/kg after im administration with an observed maximum serum concentration (Cmax) value of 2.004 microg/mL obtained at a time to peak concentration (tmax) of 0.5 h, and an absolute bioavailability (F %) of 86.79 +/- 5.53 %.The protein-binding ranged from 22 to 24.6 % with an average of 23.4 %. In conclusion, single iv and im administered doses of marbofloxacin were well tolerated by Egyptian buffalo steers. A dosage of 2 mg/kg body weight might not be enough to treat infections caused by bacteria with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) at or above 0.2 microg/mL, based on the calculated area under the inhibitory concentration (AUIC).  相似文献

Plasma cortisol responses to an intravenous bolus treatment with 250 mg naloxone, 300 mg morphine or a combination, were studied in Holstein-Friesian cows; 4 in early lactation (29-43 d postpartum) and 7 in mid-lactation (90-155 d post-partum). Blood samples were collected every 15 min from 60 min before to 90 min after treatment. Naloxone induced an immediate increase in cortisol concentration, reaching a peak within 30 min. The cortisol response (area under the curve) was positively correlated with pre-naloxone cortisol concentrations (r = 0.7, p < 0.05). The mean increase in cortisol concentration after naloxone appeared to be lower in early lactation (1.8 ng/ml) than in mid-lactation (8.3 ng/ml). In contrast, morphine consistently suppressed mean tonic plasma cortisol concentration by 2.7 ng/ml below baseline for at least 90 min. When given with morphine, naloxone counteracted the suppressive effects; the cortisol response was similar to that after naloxone alone. A cow in mid-lactation, suffering from chronic lameness (joint infection), gave opposite results, i.e., treatment with morphine alone increased cortisol concentration, whereas morphine with naloxone did not result in the expected large increase in plasma cortisol concentration. In conclusion, the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis of dairy cows appears to be under suppressive opioidergic control. However, the opioidergic system involved in hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal functions of an animal under chronic stress behaved in an opposite manner.  相似文献

The root zone of the plant must be well supplied with both water and oxygen. Water potential should be kept close to saturation but if a low water tension is maintained, particularly in clay soil, plants will suffer most of the time from a sub-optimal level of oxygen supply in the root zone. The diffusion rate of gases in air is about 10,000 times greater than in water. Thus, it is obvious that the rate of gas diffusion decreases as the water content of the soil increases. These two requirements are apparently contradictory and the assessment of optimum level of soil aeration in the root environment is essential for better crop establishment and growth. Influence of irrigation treatments (three depths of irrigation of 2, 4 and 6 r cm and four IW/CPE ratios of 0.45, 0.60, 0.75 and 0.90) on the soil oxygen diffusion rate (ODR) during various growing phases of peanut crop ( Arachis hypogaea L.) were studied on a lateritic sandy loam soil (ultisols) for two consecutive seasons. The rate of ODR decreases as water content of the soil increases after irrigation and then increases gradually with the lapse of time. However, it starts decreasing with decrease in soil moisture after 96 h of irrigation.  相似文献

We studied the dynamics of dry matter (DM) and nitrogen (N) distribution in different plant parts (leaf, stem, and panicle) and grain yield of transplanted rice due to N management practices through neem coated urea (NCU). The results indicated that application of NCU at 125% recommended dose of N (RDN) with 50:25:25 split schedule at basal (B), active tillering (AT), and panicle initiation (PI) stages resulted in higher DM and N distribution to leaf, stem, and panicle at 60 and 90 days after transplanting and harvest than the application of prilled urea at 100% RDN with the same split schedule (existing practice). Further, the increment in grain yield was 10.95% than the existing practice. Hence, we suggest the application of NCU at 125% RDN with 50:25:25 split schedule at B, AT, and PI stages for achieving higher DM and grain yield on Mollisols.  相似文献

Breading and battering of fish results in a physically superior product with a higher economic value from low-value fish. The present work was undertaken to evaluate three conventional breading materials for fish cutlets. Standard sized fish cutlets were molded with and dipped in a batter mix, followed by breading with bread crumbs (CB), pressed rice (PR), or noodle vermicelli (NS). The products were evaluated for coating parameters such as pickup, adhesion degree, cooking loss, and frying yield. The coating pickup ranged from 10.95% to 36.00%, and a maximum pickup was found with pressed rice (PR). Similarly, the adhesion degree in PR was 26.47%, which was highest among the three. Cooking loss was highest with control (conventional breadcrumb) at 15.92%. After analyzing the frying yield, it was found that PR yielded the maximum at 16.75% and less oil absorption. PR also had significantly (p < .05) higher hue angle value than both the NS and CB. Maximum browning and tough texture was observed in the NS sample. Frying tolerance was better with PR breading, which maintained better color during deep frying operations. This study can help industries to utilze low-cost breading material in preparing enrobed snack products.  相似文献

Declines in forest and woodland birds have largely been attributed to habitat loss and fragmentation. In the past decade, however, the potential for herbivores to influence bird species abundance and community composition via their direct impact on vegetation structure has also been recognised. We tested the hypothesis that deer influence vegetation structure and bird assemblages in a large island archipelago in western North America using surveys of 18 islands with deer densities ranging from 0 to over 1 deer/ha. Amongst these islands, reduced predation and hunting pressure has allowed deer populations to increase above those likely to have existed in pre-European times. Our results support a growing body of evidence that deer regulate both the cover and architecture of understory vegetation which in turn profoundly affects island bird assemblages. Deer-free islands supported the most abundant and diverse bird fauna. Iconic songbirds such as the rufous hummingbird, song and fox sparrow were abundant on islands with no deer but substantially reduced on islands with high deer densities. Only one bird species, the dark-eyed junco, preferred moderate and high density deer islands. Our observations suggest that current cohorts of palatable shrubs on islands with high deer densities are relatively old and potentially represent an impending extinction debt, where the full effects of high deer density on island biota may take decades to fully unfold. Our results suggest that deer densities below a threshold of 0.1 deer/ha should allow native vegetation to recover and a rich and diverse bird species assemblage to persist. We suggest that adaptive management be used to test the validity of this threshold, and that without active management of deer abundance, local extinctions of native flora and fauna appear likely to accelerate.  相似文献

Gross inequities in disease burden between developed and developing countries are now the subject of intense global attention. Public and private donors have marshaled resources and created organizational structures to accelerate the development of new health products and to procure and distribute drugs and vaccines for the poor. Despite these encouraging efforts directed primarily from and funded by industrialized countries, sufficiency and sustainability remain enormous challenges because of the sheer magnitude of the problem. Here we highlight a complementary and increasingly important means to improve health equity: the growing ability of some developing countries to undertake health innovation.  相似文献
