Among 153 isolates ofRhizoctonia spp. obtained from 95 soil samples collected from different fields in the USA, 42 (27.5%) isolates were hypovirulent or non-pathogenic on cabbage (tested on tap water agar plus 250 μg/ml chloramphenicol plates). Of these, 14 (33.3% of the np-R) isolates protected >60% of the cabbage seedlings againstR. solani, and the best eight isolates protected 73–95% of the cucumber seedlings. The np-R isolates RU56-8 (AG-P) and RU89-1 [AG-B(o)] induced the highest resistance against hypocotyl challenge inoculation with virulentR. solani (38.3–85.7%), whereas most of the challenged control seedlings (85–100%) collapsed. Similarly, isolates RU56-8 and RU89-1 induced the highest resistance (22.2–87.5%) against hypocotyl challenge inoculation withPythium aphanidermatum, whereas most of the challenged control seedlings collapsed (90–100%). Isolates RU56-8 and RU89-1 significantly reduced the lesion numbers and area/leaf (to 8.9–42.0% of the control) caused by challenge inoculation of the first true leaves withPseudomonas syringae pv.lachrymans. No np-R isolate could be recovered from the upper hypocotyls or from the leaves, indicating that there was no contact between the inducer and the pathogen. Root colonization with some np-R increased seedling tolerance to low soil moisture levels.  相似文献

Objective

To compare the efficacy of three continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) interfaces in dogs on gas exchange, lung volumes, amount of leak during CPAP and rebreathing in case of equipment failure or disconnection.

Study design

Randomized, prospective, crossover, experimental trial.

Animals

Ten purpose-bred Beagle dogs.

Methods

Dogs were in dorsal recumbency during medetomidine–propofol constant rate infusions, breathing room air. Three interfaces were tested in each dog in a consecutive random order: custom-made mask (M), conical face mask (FM) and helmet (H). End-expiratory lung impedance (EELI) measured by electrical impedance tomography was assessed with no interface (baseline), with the interface only (No-CPAP for 3 minutes) and at 15 minutes of 7 cmH2O CPAP (CPAP-delivery). PaO2 was assessed at No-CPAP and CPAP-delivery, partial pressure of inspired carbon dioxide (PICO2; rebreathing assessment) at No-CPAP and the interface leak (ΔPleak) at CPAP-delivery. Mixed-effects linear regression models were used for statistical analysis (p < 0.05).

Results

During CPAP-delivery, all interfaces increased EELI by 7% (p < 0.001). Higher ΔPleak was observed with M and H (9 cmH2O) in comparison with FM (1 cmH2O) (p < 0.001). At No-CPAP, less rebreathing occurred with M (0.5 kPa, 4 mmHg) than with FM (1.8 kPa, 14 mmHg) and with H (1.4 kPa, 11 mmHg), but also lower PaO2 was measured with M (9.3 kPa, 70 mmHg) than with H (11.9 kPa, 90 mmHg) and FM (10.8 kPa, 81 mmHg).

Conclusions and clinical relevance

All three interfaces can be used to provide adequate CPAP in dogs. The leak during CPAP-delivery and the risk of rebreathing and hypoxaemia, when CPAP is not maintained, can be significant. Therefore, animals should always be supervised during administration of CPAP with any of the three interfaces. The performance of the custom-made M was not superior to the other interfaces.  相似文献

Pratylenchus thornei was found in fields in the northern Negev infesting alfalfa, barley, potatoes, trifolium, watermelon and wheat. Females, males and larvae invaded the cortical root tissue, leading to root collapse and a reduction in shoot weight.P. thornei is active under irrigated conditions in the autumn, winter and spring, whereas in unirrigated fields it is active in the winter only. The aim of this study was to select growth models to describe strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa)fruit production. To do this, data on 16 treatments (combination of 2 cultivars [Albion and Camarosa], 2 origins [National and Imported], and 4 organic substrates mixed [70% crushed sugar cane residue + 30% organic compost, 70% crushed sugar cane residue + 30% commercial substrate, 70% burnt rice husk + 30% organic compost, and 70% burnt rice husk + 30% commercial substrate]) conducted in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 4 replicates were used. Different parameterizations of the Logistic, Gompertz, and von Bertalanffy models were adjusted for number and weight of fruits per plant (g) accumulated in multiple harvests. The model adjustment and parameter estimation were obtained by ordinary least squares, using a Gauss Newton algorithm. The selection of the best model was chosen by intrinsic and parametric nonlinearity. Among the adjusted nonlinear models, the best adjustment for both variables was achieved by the parameterization 2 of the Logistic model and parameterization 1 of the Gompertz model, because they had lower results with less parametric and intrinsic nonlinearity. However, care should be taken when using the Gompertz model because it tends to overestimate the production estimate and may cause misunderstandings in interpretation.  相似文献

A genome-wide association study for morphometric traits was conducted in 184 Quarter Horses, 120 from a racing population, and 64 from a cutting population, which were genotyped using the Illumina EquineSNP50 chip. Association analysis was performed with 42,058 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (after quality control) using Qxpak5 software. The following traits were measured: weight (W), rump length (RL), and body length (BL). These morphometric traits are important for the best performance in race and cutting events. For weight, three SNPs associated (P < .0001) were found on chromosomes (Equus caballus autosomes [ECA]) 2 and 3. For rump length, eight SNPs associated (P < .0001) were found on ECA 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 21, and 26. On ECA 3 and ECA 8, two SNPs were associated (P < .0001) with body length. So, a total of 13 important chromosomal regions were identified with Q values of 0.53 (SNPs for W), 0.40 (SNPs for RL), and 0.99 (SNPs for BL). Positional and functional candidate genes emerging from this study were WWOX and AAVPR1A. Further studies are required to confirm these associations in other populations.  相似文献

A single dose of 0.5 to 1 mg/kg of Pentamidine led to clinical recovery of splenectomised calves infected with Babesia bigemina. On the other hand as much as 5 mg/kg administered during patency did not destroy the carrier state in intact calves. The fact that the sterilising dose was at least five times as great as that needed for clinical recovery makes Pentamidine a promising agent for chemoimmunisation against B. bigemina infection.  相似文献
