We analyzed the correlation between minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of antimicrobials used in humans and those used in animals to enable comparison of antimicrobial susceptibility between Escherichia coli isolated from humans and those from animals. We compared the following pairs of MIC data: piperacillin (PIPC) to ampicillin (ABPC), amikacin (AMK) to kanamycin (KM), minocycline (MINO) to oxytetracycline (OTC), and levofloxacin (LVFX) to enrofloxacin (ERFX) using 103 isolates of E. coli from healthy livestock (cattle, pigs, broiler chickens, and layer chickens). Kappa analysis of the agreement for resistance and susceptibility between PIPC and ABPC, AMK and KM, MINO and OTC, and LVFX and ERFX showed almost perfect (κ = 0.81), slight (κ = 0.12), fair (κ = 0.37), and moderate (κ = 0.46) agreement, respectively. Within the antimicrobial pairs, all isolates resistant to the human antimicrobial were also resistant to the veterinary antimicrobial. However, there was less agreement within the pairs for those isolates that were sensitive to the human antimicrobial. The percentage agreement for susceptibility, defined as the percentage of isolates sensitive to both antimicrobials compared with isolates sensitive to both antimicrobials, as well as those sensitive only to the human antimicrobial, was 89.9%, 87.3%, 64.0%, and 89.9% for PIPC and ABPC, AMK and KM, MINO and OTC, and LVFX and ERFX, respectively. Our results suggest that the possibility of missing the resistance for antimicrobials used in human medicine by examining MICs for the equivalent antimicrobials used in veterinary medicine is low.  相似文献

Aji-no-susu is a Japanese fermented fish product prepared from salted horse mackerel Trachurus japonicus, and cooked rice. We studied the organic acid and free amino acid contents and microflora in 12 aji-no-susu products to clarify their features as a lactic-acid-fermented food. Salinity of the samples was approximately 7.0% (rice portion) and 6.0% (fish portion) (w/w). Water activity was approximately 0.9, and pH was approximately 4.4 and lower. In the rice portions, lactic acid content was very high (57 mg/g sample). The predominant amino acids were alanine (2.3 mg/g rice portion) and lysine (2.1 mg/g). In the case of long-fermented (4 and 12 months) aji-no-susu, a high content of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA, 1.5 and 1.4 mg/g) was detected. Total viable counts in rice and fish portions were 7.7 and 7.4 log colony-forming units (cfu)/g, respectively. The number of lactobacilli in the rice and fish portions was 7.3 and 7.1 log cfu/g, respectively. Yeasts were detected in eight samples. Furthermore, acid-tolerant lactic acid bacteria (LAB) (Lactobacillus plantarum), GABA-producing LAB (Lactobacillus sp.), and halophilic or halo-tolerant yeast (Debaryomyces hansenii) were isolated and identified. Results in this study indicate that aji-no-susu is a typical traditional lactic-acid-fermented fish product.  相似文献

The present study aimed to clarify the alkalizing ability of 1.35% isotonic sodium bicarbonate solution (ISBS), which did not contain dextrose, compared with that of 1.35% isotonic bicarbonate sodium solution containing 4.03% dextrose (ISBD) in healthy calves. The calves were intravenously administered with 20.7 mL/kg of the solutions for 30 min as the volume required to correct base deficit of 10 mM. ISBS increased the blood pH, HCO3, and base excess from 7.44 ± 0.02, 29.6 ± 1.9 mM, and 5.3 ± 2.1 mM to 7.49 ± 0.02, 36.9 ± 2.3 mM, and 13.5 ± 2.6 mM respectively (P<0.05). These factors for the ISBD group increased from 7.41 ± 0.02, 29.0 ± 1.1 mM, and 4.5 ± 1.3 mM to 7.43 ± 0.02, 33.5 ± 1.9 mM, and 9.5 ± 1.7 mM (P<0.05), respectively. Furthermore, in the ISBD group, the relative plasma volume and blood glucose level increased while the K+ level decreased, which did not occur in the ISBS group. Therefore, the results revealed that ISBS had better alkalizing ability in calves than ISBD.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this study, we aimed to clarify the effects of different water management strategies on dry matter production and yield performance of New Rice for Africa (NERICA) varieties. Dry matter production of NERICA 1 and NERICA 5 was compared with that of Yumenohatamochi, a Japanese upland variety, and Hinohikari, a Japanese lowland variety under three water regimes, i.e. continuously flooded, supplemental irrigation, and non-irrigation (rainfed). Total carbohydrate content in the panicles under different watering regimes was more closely related to post-heading photosynthates than pre-heading reserve assimilates. Dry matter production during ripening tended to decrease under low soil water conditions, whereas the dry matter translocated from the leaf and stem to the panicle tended to increase. Consequently, the distribution ratio of post-heading photosynthates in the total carbohydrate content declined in response to the reduction in available soil moisture. These results indicate that the total carbohydrate content vary depending on the soil water conditions. In NERICAs, dry matter production during ripening was lower than that in Japanese varieties, indicating that their dependence on pre-heading reserve assimilates was greater. In particular, post-heading photosynthate content of NERICA 1 was strongly affected by the variation in water management in comparison with that of other varieties. The decrease in crop growth rate during ripening in NERICA 1 can be mainly attributed to the lower post-heading photosynthate content. Thus, the ability of NERICA 1 to assimilate carbon after heading was considered to be potentially low, which has to be improved to achieve higher yield.  相似文献

Glycosylation of flagellin is known to be involved in filament stabilization, motility, and virulence in Pseudomonas syringae. Here we investigated flagellin glycosylation in other phytopathogenic bacteria. Analyses of deduced amino acid sequences, glycostaining, and molecular masses of purified flagellins revealed that flagellins from all phytopathogenic bacteria investigated were glycosylated. Furthermore, the flagellin in a glycosylation-defective mutant of Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc) had a reduced molecular mass, and motility and virulence of the mutant toward host leaves decreased. These results suggest that flagellin glycosylation is ubiquitous in most phytopathogenic bacteria and that flagellin glycosylation is required for virulence in Xcc.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine the cardiorespiratory effects of epidural administration of morphine alone and in combination with fentanyl in dogs anesthetized with sevoflurane. DESIGN: Prospective study. ANIMALS: 6 dogs. PROCEDURE: Dogs were anesthetized with sevoflurane and allowed to breathe spontaneously. After a stable plane of anesthesia was achieved, morphine (0.1 mg/kg [0.045 mg/lb]) or a combination of morphine and fentanyl (10 microg/kg [4.5 microg/lb]) was administered through an epidural catheter, the tip of which was positioned at the level of L6 or L7. Cardiorespiratory variables were measured for 90 minutes. RESULTS: Epidural administration of morphine alone did not cause any significant changes in cardiorespiratory measurements. However, epidural administration of morphine and fentanyl induced significant decreases in diastolic and mean arterial blood pressures and total peripheral resistance. Stroke volume was unchanged, PaCO2 was significantly increased, and arterial pH and base excess were significantly decreased. Heart rate was significantly lower after epidural administration of morphine and fentanyl than after administration of morphine alone. None of the dogs had any evidence of urine retention, vomiting, or pruritus after recovery from anesthesia. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Results suggest that epidural administration of morphine at a dose of 0.1 mg/kg in combination with fentanyl at a dose of 10 microg/kg can cause cardiorespiratory depression in dogs anesthetized with sevoflurane.  相似文献

Obesity is the most common nutritional disorder in small animals. To establish a computed tomographic (CT) method for assessment of visceral and subcutaneous fat content in the dog, CT analysis was performed in normal and obese beagles. Fat area was measured by the level detection method at varied attenuation ranges and compared with body fat content estimated by the deuterium oxide dilution method. Fat area measured at L3 using the attenuation range of -135/-105 Hounsfield unit had the best correlation with body fat content (r = 0.98). Regional fat distribution was almost the same between normal and obese dogs, with more fat accumulation at L1-S1 than T10-T13. Moreover, visceral and subcutaneous fat area could be estimated separately. This CT method may contribute to both the clinical diagnosis and the study of canine obesity, especially for studies in the relationship between body fat distribution and obesity-associated diseases.  相似文献

A milk protein fraction possessing alkaline isoelectric points (milk basic protein [MBP]) improves bone metabolism in vivo, and it inhibits bone resorption by osteoclasts and promotes mouse osteoblastic MC3T3‐E1 cells proliferation in vitro. Cystatin C (CysC) is a component of MBP and shows bone resorption inhibitory activity. Therefore, it is likely that MBP with higher CysC content improves bone metabolism more effectively. In this study, we prepared MBP with low and high contents of CysC and compared its effects on bone metabolism with standard MBP in vitro. Our results showed that the CysC content in MBP was positively related to not only bone resorption inhibitory activity but also MC3T3‐E1 cells proliferative activity. Furthermore, purified CysC stimulated MC3T3‐E1 cells proliferation. These results indicate that CysC contributes to promotion of MC3T3‐E1 cells proliferation, and MBP with higher CysC content shows enhanced bone resorption inhibitory activity and MC3T3‐E1 cells proliferative activity. CysC is considered an important factor in the effect on bone metabolism of MBP.  相似文献
