The proportions of Sertoli cell tumor (SCT), seminoma and Leydig cell tumor in 50 dogs with unilateral testicular tumors were 52%, 36% and 12%, respectively. The rate of occurrence of SCT in the cryptorchid testis was very high (71%). The testicular superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, testicular heat shock protein (HSP) 70 concentration and peripheral blood plasma inhibin (INH)-alpha concentration of 10 dogs with a unilateral cryptorchid testis and no testicular tumors, 10 dogs with SCT in a unilateral cryptorchid testis and 10 normal dogs, all aged 5-15 years, were measured in order to identify high risk factors for the occurrence of SCT in the canine cryptorchid testis. The mean SOD activity in cryptorchid testes and SCTs was significantly lower and higher, respectively, than in normal testes (both P<0.01). The mean HSP 70 concentration in both cryptorchid testes and SCTs was significantly higher than in normal testes (both P<0.01). The mean plasma INH-alpha concentration of the cryptorchid and SCT dogs was significantly lower and higher, respectively, than in normal dogs (P<0.05 and 0.01, respectively). The low SOD activity in the cryptorchid testis, low blood plasma INH-alpha concentration of the cryptorchid dogs and high HSP 70 concentration in the SCTs may be related to the occurrence of SCT and tumor cell proliferation in canine cryptorchid testes.  相似文献

Amylose content is a major determinant of the eating quality in rice. To elucidate the allelic diversity at the Waxy (Wx) gene which controls the amylose synthesis, two cultivated strains having opaque endosperms were studied. The gene responsible for opaque endosperms was introduced into the genetic background of the Japonica type of rice by successive backcrosses, and the two near-isogenic lines (NILs) were selected from the B5 generation. The genetic experiments revealed that an allele, Wxop, controls opaque endosperms which show chalky as wx endosperms in spite of the production of amylose. Immunoblotting analysis was carried out to compare the gene expression by using the NILs with 4 different alleles (Wxa, Wxb, Wxop and wx). The level of the gene product bound to starch granules was slightly lower in the NILs with Wxop than that with Wxb, showing a positive correlation with amylose content in the endosperm. Extracts from mature anthers indicated that the gene product was markedly reduced in the NILs with Wxop as well as that with wx, showing an altered expression in the tissue specificity in the Wxop lines. Sequence analysis suggested that the Wxop had been derived from Wxa, independently of the origin of Wxb. The importance of the gene regulation was discussed in relation to diversified phenotypes established during the domestication process.  相似文献

Growth hormone (GH) secretion from organ-cultured pituitaries of the eel (Anguilla japonica) was studied during incubation in a defined medium for 2 weeks, using a homologous radioimmunoassay which does not distinguish between the two molecular forms of eel GH. The total amount of GH secreted increased gradually during the incubation period; so that the amount of GH released on day 14 was about 30 times greater than that on day 1. On day 14, the proportion of GH released relative to the total amount of GH present (the sum of GH released into the medium and residual content in the pituitary) was 96% and the amount produced on day 14 was 4 times greater than the content in the unincubated pituitary. Somatostatin (SRIF, 1.8 × 10-7 M) inhibited the increase in GH release. On day 7, the proportion of GH released by pituitaries treated with SRIF (28%) was less than that released by the control pituitary (91%). There was no significant difference in GH release between the pituitaries incubated in isotonic medium (300 mOsm) and those in hypotonic medium (240 mOsm) for 2 weeks except for the first 3 days, when the pituitaries in hypotonic medium secreted significantly greater amounts of GH than those incubated under isotonic condition. Hypertonic medium (350 mOsm) had no effect on GH release except for significant inhibition on days 6 and 14. When secretion of the two forms of GH (GH I and II) was examined after separation by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis followed by densitometry, slightly more GH I tended to be secreted than GH II during the culture period, although the effects of SRIF and osmolality of the media on GH I release were similar to those on GH II. It is concluded that GH secretion and production in the eel is mainly under the inhibitory control of hypothalamus, and that osmolality has a minimum influence on the GH release.  相似文献

About 70% of eggs of Cyprinus carpio reached the eyed stage in fertility tests with 1 ml of cryopreserved semen added to 1 g of eggs. When 1 ml of semen was added to 100 g of eggs, few eggs reached the eyed stage. In two fertility tests with sperm preserved for 342 days, using 5 g of eggs inseminated with 1 ml of semen, percentages of eyed eggs were 31.5 and 25.5, respectively. In a series of fertility tests, the chemical constituency of the medium in which fertilization was attempted influenced the fertility of cryopreserved sperm.  相似文献

We studied the effects of a 2-day exposure to aluminum (Al), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) stress on root exudates and root apices of aseptically grown poplar (Populus tremula L.) cuttings. Aluminum induced root exudation of oxalate and citrate, Cu induced root exudation of oxalate, malate and formate, and Zn induced root exudation of formate. The threshold treatment concentrations were 100 microM for Cu and 500 microM for Al and Zn, corresponding to about 30 microM Cu2+, 140 microM Al3+ and 290 microM Zn2+. Simultaneous with the increase in organic acid anion exudation, sulfate and the nutrient cations K+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ were released into the solutions. Significant positive correlations between the organic acid anions and the cations indicate possible co-release. Toxicity symptoms of the poplar roots included browning of the root apices, which occurred at Cu concentrations of 50 microM and above, at Zn concentrations of 500 microM and above, and at an Al concentration of 1000 microM, and callose formation, which was observed solely in response to Al concentrations of 500 microM or higher. The results indicate that the composition of the exuded organic acid anions from poplar roots and the toxicity symptoms are specific to each of the applied heavy metals.  相似文献

The seasonal fluxes of heat, moisture and CO2 were investigated under two different rice environments: flooded and aerobic soil conditions, using the eddy covariance technique during 2008 dry season. The fluxes were correlated with the microclimate prevalent in each location. This study was intended to monitor the environmental impact, in terms of C budget and heat exchange, of shifting from lowland rice production to aerobic rice cultivation as an alternative to maintain crop productivity under water scarcity.The aerobic rice fields had higher sensible heat flux (H) and lower latent heat flux (LE) compared to flooded fields. On seasonal average, aerobic rice fields had 48% more sensible heat flux while flooded rice fields had 20% more latent heat flux. Consequently, the aerobic rice fields had significantly higher Bowen ratio (0.25) than flooded fields (0.14), indicating that a larger proportion of the available net radiation was used for sensible heat transfer or for warming the surrounding air.The total C budget integrated over the cropping period showed that the net ecosystem exchange (NEE) in flooded rice fields was about three times higher than in aerobic fields while gross primary production (GPP) and ecosystem respiration (Re) were 1.5 and 1.2 times higher, respectively. The high GPP of flooded rice ecosystem was evident because the photosynthetic capacity of lowland rice is naturally large. The Re of flooded rice fields was also relatively high because it was enhanced by the high photosynthetic activities of lowland rice as manifested by larger above-ground plant biomass. The NEE, GPP, and Re values for flooded rice fields were −258, 778, and 521 g C m−2, respectively. For aerobic rice fields, values were −85, 515, and 430 g C m−2 for NEE, GPP, and Re, respectively. The ratio of Re/GPP in flooded fields was 0.67 while it was 0.83 for aerobic rice fields.This short-term data showed significant differences in C budget and heat exchange between flooded and aerobic rice ecosystems. Further investigation is needed to clarify seasonal and inter-annual variations in microclimate, carbon and water budget of different rice production systems.  相似文献

Three porphyran preparations with high emulsifying ability and varying molecular mass, 3,6-anhydrogalactose content, and sulfate content without any protenaceous component were prepared from dried nori processed from Porphyra yezoensis, a red alga. Each of these preparations was applied to demonstrate adsorption or binding to the surface of oil droplets. The decrease in porphyran concentration of the aqueous phase of O/W emulsions prepared with porphyran and with toluidine blue (TB)-porphyran complex formed by adding TB to the O/W emulsions indicated ready adsorption to the surface of oil droplets. The decrease in zeta-potential of the O/W emulsions suggested that the sulfate groups of the adsorbed porphyran were oriented toward the external aqueous phase. A biomolecular interaction analysis exhibited rapid binding of porphyran to C16-alkane, probably through 3,6-anhydrogalactose. Porphyran-coated liposomes were tolerant to digestion with phospholipase D. The increased molecular weight of the porphyran preparations had an increased effect on these characteristics. The results of this study demonstrate that the emulsifying ability of porphyran is derived from the adequate adsorption to the surface of oil droplets and that porphyran could be effectively applied to stabilize liposomes.  相似文献

Our field survey showed that thequality of shallow groundwater around the KatsuraRiver in the Kyoto Basin was strongly affected by theinfiltration of river water. Furthermore, that thedeterioration of the groundwater in the southern areato the west of the Katsura River may be related to theincrease in groundwater extraction. To clarify themechanism of groundwater deterioration, we havedeveloped a stochastic method to simulate groundwaterflow. The results showed that there was a largereduction in the groundwater level where groundwaterextraction was intense and recharge flowed from theKatsura River to the high extraction areas in thesouthern region. Another simulation showed that if thegroundwater extraction was 10% of the present removalrate, there would be little recharge from the KatsuraRiver into the groundwater and the quality of thegroundwater would be improved. Thus, we conclude thatthe cause of groundwater deterioration is probably dueto the induced recharge of deteriorated river waterfrom the Katsura River.  相似文献

Pyrethroid insecticides are characterised by high knockdown and lethal activity, a wide spectrum, good residual activity, together with repellent and antifeeding activity. With these characteristics, pyrethroid insecticides have become widely used for plant protection. Their major use has been for the control of bollworms and leafworms in cotton but they have also achieved widespread use for controlling various species of lepidopterous pests in fruits and vegetables, aphids in cereals, and many other minor outlets. Although the early synthetic pyrethroids suffered from a lack of activity against mites and soil pests, later additions, such as fenpropathrin, have combined high acaricidal activity with insecticidal activity and further pyrethroids are being introduced for use in soil. The extent of pyrethroid use has increased progressively since the first of the ‘photostable’ pyrethroids was registered. In 1986, the market share of pyrethroids reached 25 % of the total insecticide market for plant protection; this figure can be increased in the future.  相似文献
