Repro22 is an N-ethyl-N-nitrosourea (ENU)-induced mutation in mice showing depletion of both male and female germ cells. In the present study, we investigated the male phenotypes of the mutant mouse at the adult stage. The repro22/repro22 homozygous mice showed reduced body weights as well as markedly reduced testis weights. Histological examination of the testes at 4 and 10 months of age showed no germ cells in the seminiferous tubules of the affected testis while a number of Sertoli cells were observed in the tubules. In addition to the germ cell depletion, the testes of the affected mouse contained expanded intertubular spaces that were filled by Leydig cell-like interstitial cells. These interstitial cells were confirmed to be Leydig cells by immunohistochmical staining using anti-3beta-HSD antibody. The estimated number of Leydig cells in the affected testes at 10 months of age increased approximately 2 fold compared with those of normal testes. Furthermore, the plasma testosterone levels of the affected mice at 10 months of age were significantly higher than those of the normal mice. These findings indicated that the repro22/repro22 mouse developed hyperplasia of Leydig cells that was presumably caused by the absence of germ cells in the seminiferous tubules. 相似文献

As well as H5 highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIV), H7 HPAIV strains have caused serious damages in poultry industries worldwide. Cases of bird-to-human transmission of H7 HPAIV have also been reported [11]. On the outbreak of avian influenza, rapid diagnosis is critical not only for the control of HPAI but also for human health. In the present study, a rapid diagnosis kit based on immunochromatography for the detection of H7 hemagglutinin (HA) antigen of influenza A virus was developed using 2 monoclonal antibodies that recognize different epitopes on the H7 HAs. The kit detected each of the tested 15 H7 influenza virus strains and did not react with influenza A viruses of the other subtypes than H7 or other avian viral and bacterial pathogens. The kit detected H7 HA antigen in the swabs and tissue homogenates of the chickens experimentally infected with HPAIV strain A/chicken/Netherlands/2586/03 (H7N7). The results indicate that the present kit is specific and sensitive enough for the diagnosis of HPAI caused by H7 viruses, thus, recommended for the field application as a pen-site test kit. 相似文献

The present work was conducted to study the comparative efficacy of two anti-protozoan (babesicidal) drugs on the recovery and health of horses. A total of 80 horses, showing typical clinical symptoms of the disease, were selected for this study; the presence of babesiosis was confirmed through blood smear examination. These animals were divided into two groups i.e. A and B. Horses of Group A, were treated with diminazene diaceturate, while horses of Group B were treated with diminazene aceturate. Efficacy of the drugs was determined by the reversal of clinical signs and a negative blood smear examination. The efficacy of diminazene diaceturate was demonstrated to be 80% while diminazene aceturate was found to have 90% efficacy against babesiosis. 相似文献

Caspian roach (Rutilus rutilus caspicus), a spring spawning teleost, were subjected to various photoperiod and temperature regimes to study the feasibility of shifting the timing of spawning for artificial propagation purposes. A total of 650 female reproductively mature R. rutilus caspicus were subjected to different photoperiod and temperature regimes including four light regimes (natural light (NL), 16 hr of light (L):8 hr of darkness (D), 9L:15D, 11L:13D), each affected by three temperature regimes (14, 20 and 24°C) for 70 days. Five fish per tank were randomly sampled on Feb. 10, Feb. 20, March 28, April 15 and April 30 (natural spawning time). Ovarian tissue sections were studied using light microscope and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The levels of 17‐β estradiol (E2) and 17α‐hydroxyprogesterone (OHP) were also measured in the serum samples. In late winter (March 28th), the gonadal maturation and spawning were accelerated in fish treated with the long day length (16L/8D) and warm temperature (20°C). While, the maturation of oocytes and spawning delayed in fish exposed to low temperature (14°C) and short day length (9L/15D and 11L/13D). Photoperiod seems to play a more important role in the ovarian development of the R. rutilus caspicus compared to temperature; since even among the fish treated with the lowest temperature (14°C), those exposed to a longer day length (16L/8D), matured and spawned earlier than the others. Considering that the earliest spawning occurred in R. rutilus caspicus treated with 16L/8D at 20°C and the latest spawning occurred in fish exposed to low temperature and short photoperiod, it can be concluded that temperature and photoperiod play an important role in accelerating oocyte maturation and spawning. 相似文献

For studying the effect of LHRH-A2 hormone on the induction of final maturation and ovulation of Persian sturgeon, 71 matured females and 20 matured males were
used. Five groups of breeders were injected with sturgeon pituitary gland hormone (50 mg per fish) and LHRH-A2 in dosages of 3.5, 7, 8 and 10 μg kg−1 for females and 3 and 5 μg kg−1 for males. Results showed that LHRH-A2 successfully induced final maturation and ovulation in females, and there was no significant difference between five groups
of breeders in ovulation proportion, fertilization rate, survival rate of incubation, survival of yolk-sac absorption period

For many commercial fisheries, reductions in fishing effort would likely result in higher long-term catches and improved incomes per fisherman. But fishing licenses are perceived as though they were property rights, which can imply relatively high costs for publicly funded buyback programmes to reduce fishing effort. Instead of the public buying out fishing licenses, it can make good business sense for license holders to expect the public to pay for protection against new licenses, and to proceed under this protection to finance buybacks of licenses themselves.
