Plant defense against herbivory has been studied primarily in aerial tissues. The nutritional contribution of the dietary nitrogen supplied by poultry by‐product meal (PBM) and fish meal (FM) to the somatic growth of Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei, was assessed by means of stable isotope analysis. Seven experimental diets were formulated with different proportions of PBM replacing FM. Practical diets were formulated to replace 0, 35, 50, 65, 80, 95, and 100% of FM with PBM, on a dietary nitrogen basis. At the end of the experiment, there were no significant differences in survival among dietary treatments (89 ± 5%); however, significant differences in final wet weights were observed. Diets having FM replacement levels of 35 and 50% with PBM promoted mean final weights (708–789 mg) similar to those observed in shrimps fed on diet containing 100% FM (874 mg). Shrimp final mean weight significantly decreased as a function of PBM inclusion (r = −0.98) owing to the use of only two dietary nitrogen sources and by possible nutritional restrictions as PBM levels increased. The relative proportions of dietary nitrogen supplied by PBM and FM were incorporated in muscle tissue at proportions that were statistically similar to those established in the dietary formulations. 相似文献

Five painted storks were treated with fenbendazole for 5 days for internal parasitism. Four birds died following treatment. Profound heteropenia was a consistent finding in all samples evaluated; additionally, the 1 surviving bird had progressive anemia. Consistent necropsy findings in the 4 birds that died were small intestinal crypt cell necrosis and severe bone marrow depletion and necrosis. Fenbendazole has been associated with bone marrow hypoplasia and enteric damage in mammals and other species of birds. The dosages of fenbendazole used in birds are often substantially higher than those recommended for mammals, which may contribute to bone marrow hypoplasia and intestinal crypt cell necrosis associated with fenbendazole administration in birds. 相似文献

Bartonella vinsonii (B. vinsonii) subspecies berkhoffii is a recently recognized cause of endocarditis, myocarditis, and granulomatous disease in dogs. In an effort to elucidate other potential disease manifestations, the case records of 24 dogs that were seroreactive to B. vinsonii (berkhoffii) antigens were studied retrospectively. Diagnoses included immune-mediated hemolytic anemia, neutrophilic or granulomatous meningoencephalitis, neutrophilic polyarthritis, cutaneous vasculitis, and uveitis. Repeated B. vinsonii (berkhoffii) antibody titers became negative after treatment. This study indicates that a diverse spectrum of disease manifestations and clinicopathological abnormalities can be detected in dogs that are seroreactive to B. vinsonii (berkhoffii) antigens. 相似文献

Six adult female tigers (Panthera tigris) were anesthetized repeatedly for elective medical procedures using 3 mg medetomidine and 200 mg ketamine i.m. Inductions were rapid and smooth, although supplemental ketamine was needed for safe transport after induction in 6 of 17 procedures.
