Seeding depth and soil packing affect pure live seed emergence of cuphea   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Cuphea viscosissima Jacq. × C. lanceolata f. silenoides W.T. Aiton is a new crop being developed in the north-central USA as an industrial oilseed crop. Adequate plant stand is essential for successful commercial production of cuphea. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of seeding date, depth and soil packing on stand establishment and subsequent crop performance. The study was conducted at Carrington and Prosper, ND, in 2005 and 2006. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with four replicates, with a split–plot arrangement, where the whole plot was a factorial arrangement (2 × 2) of two seeding dates, optimum and late, with or without soil packing after seeding. The subplot treatments were three seeding depths (surface, 13, and 25 mm). The same plot planter was used to adjust seeding depth to 13 and 25 mm. Each experimental unit had six rows 4.6-m long with a between-row spacing of 0.31 m. Traits evaluated were pure live seed emergence (PLSE), plant stand, plant height at harvest and seed yield. The main effect for seeding date did not have an effect on PLSE and resulted in adequate stands from both late May and mid June plantings averaged across environments. The seeding depth by soil packing interaction was significant for PLSE, plant stand and seed yield. Pure live seed emergence, plant stand, and seed yield were greater if the soil was packed compared with non-packed for the surface seeded treatment. The soil packing treatment did not influence PLSE, plant stand, or seed yield at the 13- and 25-mm seeding depths. Plant stands obtained from the non-packed surface and 13-mm seeding depths was adequate for high seed yield, as the plants branched to compensate for the lower plant density. Although surface seeding with packing produced satisfactory plant stands, reliance on timely rainfall is required for this to be successful. For this reason, the recommendation for seeding at the 13-mm depth without soil packing would ensure a better chance for sufficient soil water absorption by the seed to initiate germination. If surface seeding is practiced, a roller-packer to incorporate seeds and firm the seedbed after planting is recommended.  相似文献

Mined areas are a continuing source of heavy metals and acidity that move off site in response to erosion. Revegetation of the mine tailings could limit the spread of these heavy metals and acidity. This study was conducted to evaluate, at four tailings on opencast mines of Galicia (Touro: copper mine; and Meirama: lignite mine, NW Spain), the chemical and physical soil quality indicators and limiting edaphic factors concerning forest production. Selected zones were: (1) The tailings formed by the waste materials from the depleted Touro mine; (2) the decantation site of deposited sludge coming from the copper extraction in the flotation stage; (3) and (4) tailings of 3 and 10 years old of the Meirama lignite mine. The main physical limitations of the mine soils are the low effective depth (<50 cm), high stoniness (>30 per cent) and high porosity (>60 per cent); which make them vulnerable to soil erosion and seriously interferes with the forest production. Soils coming from the decantation site of copper mine do not have physical limitations. The main chemical limitations of mine soils are their acidity (pH from 3·62 to 5·71), and aluminium saturation (>60 per cent in copper mine soils, and >20 per cent in lignite mine soils), low CECe (from 5·34 to 9·47 cmol(+) kg−1), organic carbon (from 0·47 to 7·52 mg kg−1) and Ca2+ and Mg2+ contents, and imbalance between exchange bases. Mine soils coming from the decantation site of copper mine soils are strongly limited by the high Cu content (1218 mg kg−1). Summary A simple method is proposed to distinguish hexaploid (Triticum aestivum L.) from tetraploid (Triticum turgidum L., durum wheat) cultivated wheats on the basis of peroxidase isozymes coded by genome D. It can also be used as a first step to detect possible contamination by tetraploid genotype mixtures. The peroxidase patterns of endosperm and of embryo plus scutellum found among 349 entries of a durum wheat world basis collection are shown.  相似文献

In human medicine, primary frontal sinus squamous cell carcinoma (pFS-SCC) is not frequently reported. In veterinary medicine, frontal sinus SCC is exclusively described as an extension of nasal cavity SCC. To our knowledge, this is the first publication concerning canine pFS-SCC, diagnosed using histology or cytology and medical imaging, in three dogs. The tumours extended into the orbit or brain cavity, without nasal involvement. Treatment was initiated with piroxicam-carboplatin. Prolongation of carboplatin delivery with a low dose intensity was performed on dogs with a favourable initial response. Dog 1 achieved a complete remission (CR), but was euthanized 344 days after start of therapy. Dog 2, still alive 3 years after start of therapy and in CR, received 14 carboplatin deliveries. In dog 3, after changing the treatment protocol into piroxicam-toceranib, a significant tumour reduction occurred, but the dog was euthanized after 195 days because of a relapse.  相似文献

To date, neither the method nor diagnostic indices employed in Cuba to evaluate erosion of Red Ferralitic or Ferrasol Rhodic soil in karstic regions has taken into consideration morphogenesis in such geo‐ecosystems or their relationship with erosion, which has led to sequential degradation of the most productive soils in Cuba. We explore the case for considering A + B horizon depth as one of the basic indices for evaluating the severity of erosion. There is no methodology available for estimating the volume of soil lost through karstic absorption forms (dolines). This article forecasts loss of soil cover using a model which estimates losses of 268·52 to 450·52 mm y−1 for future scenarios (periods of 25 and 50 years). A mean loss rate of 1·07 mm y−1 was found in areas cultivated as pastureland during the period from 1986 to 2009, which exceeds the tolerance thresholds proposed by the Universal Soil Loss Equation and the soil formation rates estimated for limestone in Cuba and it is likely there is with a marked tendency for this to increase. These results should be interpreted as a first estimate for setting loss tolerances as there is no similar experience with own data for a more precise definition of the erosion of soil in karstic regions. The entomopathogenic fungusEntomophaga maimaiga was introduced into aL. dispar population situated in South Bulgaria for the first time in Europe. It was found that of all larvae collected in the five experimental plots, 6.3 % contained conidia and resting spores ofE. maimaiga, 14.2 % contained parasitoids and 2.3 % were infected with nucleopolyhedrovirus (NPV). The presence of the fungus in cadavers collected from each experimental plots and on five of the six collection dates was observed.  相似文献

Tomato leaves showing severe leaf spot symptoms have been observed and sampled in the central west and southwest Taiwan during 2015 and 2016. The symptoms were similar to those of bacterial leaf spot/late blight diseases, but only Stemphylium-like fungi were consistently isolated from the diseased tomato. Upon spray inoculation of tomato, Stemphylium-like isolates caused leaf spot symptoms identical to those of naturally infected plants, and the pathogenic isolates were successfully re-isolated from inoculated leaves. The tomato-pathogenic isolates were identified as S. lycopersici based on morphological characterization and molecular identification. S. lycopersici has been previously reported to cause gray leaf spot of tomato in the temperate regions, but the majority of S. lycopersici-caused lesions were black/dark brown rather than gray in our surveillance. Accordingly, it is suggested that S. lycopersici-caused disease of tomato is named Stemphylium leaf spot of tomato more appropriately than tomato gray leaf spot. Moreover, S. lycopersici-caused leaf spot disease on tomato has been distributed in major tomato production regions in Taiwan. The information provided by our study will be important for future breeding of tomato cultivars, especially for tomato producers in Taiwan.  相似文献

The effects of irrigation on verticillium wilt in olive, in terms of morphological, biomass and physiological parameters were evaluated on pot‐grown trees maintained in the field for 3 years. Plants inoculated and noninoculated with Verticillium dahliae were irrigated to high and low range of soil water content (HR and LR) at daily (DF; about 2 days/event), weekly (WF) and daily‐weekly (DWF) drip‐irrigation frequency. Morphological parameters, relative biomass and biomass water‐use efficiency were higher at LR than at HR (with few exceptions) and at DF than at other frequencies in noninoculated and inoculated plants, but the fungus reduced those parameters by 17.0–38.5%. Lower root weight ratio, relative biomass and shoot length as area originated at HR in noninoculated plants, could be favourable to the accumulation of root infections and the amount of fungus per tissue length in inoculated plants because higher infection was known at HR. Moreover, higher aerial biomass and length promoted by irrigation at DF could prevent the more severe expression of symptoms, which occurred at WF and DWF in the presence of Verticillium. Negative correlations were found between indicated parameters and disease. Lower water stress (SΨ), and higher stomatal conductance (gs) and net photosynthesis at DF in noninoculated plants could limit the disease by improving water status, as SΨ was increased by the fungus only at WF and DWF, and gs and disease were negatively correlated. LR‐DF treatment minimized the disease and kept the growth, water‐use efficiency and physiological parameters in inoculated plants to levels close to noninoculated plants.  相似文献

QoI resistance in P. viticola was first detected in France and Italy in 1999. Molecular and biological assays have been carried out since 2000 in order to provide reliable methods of detecting and quantifying resistance. Oospores were collected in vineyards located in northern and southern Italy. QoI resistance was evaluated by the germination rate of oospores on azoxystrobin amended medium and the frequency of mutant alleles in the DNA extracted from oospores. Both methods correlated to each other and were used side by side to test QoI resistance. Due to the spontaneous occurrence of the G143A mutation in wild type populations and the immigration from surrounding vineyards, resistance frequencies up to 10% were found in samples collected from vineyards never treated with QoIs. Particularly high values, about 90%, were associated with the application of five to six QoI treatments within the same season, while lower percentages, about 30%, were detected in vineyards treated with QoI used in mixture with fungicides belonging to a different resistance group. A progressive decrease of resistance frequency was observed when QoI applications were reduced in number or completely suspended for at least one season. Therefore, a full recovery of sensitivity may be achieved even in vineyards characterized by high levels of resistance, if particular care is taken during disease control by using QoIs only in mixtures and reducing the number of QoI treatments.  相似文献
