Tef is a staple cereal of Ethiopia in high demand by consumers. In order to cope up with this high consumer demand, productivity
per unit of land must increase through the development and use of high-yielding varieties. To this effect, the National Tef
Research Project has long been striving towards the development of high yielding varieties through direct selection from germplasm
and concentrating favourable alleles through hybridization and selection, despite the tedious crossing technique. The objective
of this study was to assess the degree of genetic variation in F2 populations of tef as a basis for improving grain yield. F2 populations from 12 crosses and their parents were grown at the Debre Zeit Agricultural Research Center, Ethiopia, and assessment
was made on eight traits on individual plant basis. Eleven of the 12 crosses showed substantial genetic variation for grain
yield and its components, indicating the potential for improvement through selection. Moreover, grain yield, plant weight
and yield related traits showed moderate to high heritability values (17–80%). In all the crosses, tiller number, panicle
weight, yield per panicle and panicle length showed significant (P ≤ 0.05) and positive association with grain yield. Considering the degree of genetic variation and heritability values, emphasis
should be given to selected crosses in an effort to developing high-yielding tef varieties. 相似文献

The single chromosome substitution lines of chromosome 3B of the Czech alternative wheat variety Česká Přesívka (CP 3B) into
two spring varieties Zlatka and Sandra, revealed clear differences in flowering time compared to the recipient varieties.
To map this gene(s), recombinant substitution lines for chromosome 3B were produced from crosses of the substitution lines
with their recipient parents and genetic maps developed using SSR markers. Two populations were mapped, Sandra//Sandra 3B/Sandra
(CP 3B) and Zlatka//Zlatka/Zlatka (CP 3B). Combining the genotype data with phenotype data on flowering time in five independent
experiments under natural long day or controlled short day conditions revealed a single flowering time QTL. This gene had
an additive effect of 1–6 days, depending on environment and genetic background, and was mapped in both populations to a position
in the region of marker Xbarc164 near the centromere on the long arm of 3B. Comparisons of the genetic maps with other 3B maps developed by the authors indicated
that the QTL may be homologous to a QTL segregating in UK germplasm. 相似文献

Aberrant phenotypes of cauliflower were detected throughout the cultivation period and in any variety type. The rate of these phenotypes in the field has recently increased. We reported previously on the first part of our results which showed that (1) the rate of aberrant plants varied with genotype and cultivation area, (2) the aberrant phenotypes can evolve or reverse to normality during the plant cycle and (3) the capacity to express a variant phenotype can be transmitted to the progeny. An epigenetic hypothesis has been proposed to explain the determinism of the phenomenon. Further investigation on the “aberrant” character focussed on the flow cytometric estimation of ploidy levels and on the parallel observation of meiosis. Only a fraction of aberrant plants did show aneuploidy and various ploïdy levels were found for the same phenotype. Indeed, aneuploidy could not be related to the aberrant phenotype although it could probably be a consequence of the aberration phenomenon. HPLC analysis of global DNA methylation rates showed that DNA hypermethylation occurred in plants which exhibited an evolution of their phenotype during vegetative cycle. The epigenetic origin of aberrant phenotypes in cauliflower is discussed with reference to epigenetic diseases described in human beings. 相似文献

Morpho-agronomic traits and microsatellite markers were used to survey genetic diversity in 115 common bean genotypes that
included 70 Indian landraces, 24 released varieties and 21 exotic accessions. Twelve morpho-agronomic traits, namely, days
to 50% flowering, leaflet length, leaflet width, pod length, pod width, number of pods per plant, days to maturity, seed length,
seed width, number of seeds per pod, 100 seed weight and seed yield per plant were studied. Field data of two consecutive
years were subjected to multivariate analysis as proposed by Mahalanobis’s D2-statistics, Tochers method of clustering and combined analysis of variance. Seventeen microsatellite markers were also used
to examine genetic diversity at molecular level that showed polymorphic information content (PIC) in the range of 0.00–0.684.
Dendrograms based on Euclidean distances and UPGMA analysis showed the presence of majority of released varieties into single
cluster, which pointed toward their low genetic base in comparison to indigenous landraces and exotic germplasm. Significant
correlation existed between morphological genetic distance and microsatellite genetic distance tested by Mantel test (r = 0.876). 相似文献

Approximately 7,000 accessions of Korean soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) landraces, largely composed of three collections, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute’s soybean (KAS),
the Korean Crop Experiment Station’s soybean (KLS) and the Korean Agricultural Development and Technology Center’s soybean
(KADTC) collections, have been conserved at the Rural Development Administration (RDA) genebank in Korea. The accessions within
collections were classified based on their traditional uses such as sauce soybean (SA), sprouted soybean (SP), soybean for
cooking with rice (SCR), and OTHERS. A total of 2,758 accessions of Korean soybean landraces were used to profile and to evaluate
genetic structure using six SSR loci. A total of 110 alleles were revealed by at the six SSR loci. The number of alleles per
SSR locus ranged from 9 to 39 in Satt187 and Satt_074, respectively. The number of alleles ranged from 87 in the KADTC collection
to 96 in the KLS collection, and from 63 in the SCR group to 95 in the SP group. Nei’s average genetic diversity ranged from
0.68 to 0.70 across three collections, and 0.64 to 0.69 across the usage groups. The average between-group differentiation
(G
st) was 0.9 among collections, and 4.1 among the usage groups. The similar average diversity among three collections implies
that the genetic background of the three collections was quite similar or that there were a large number of duplicate accessions
in three collections. The selection from the four groups classified based upon usage may be a useful way to select accessions
for developing a Korean soybean landrace core collection at the RDA genebank. DNA profile information of accessions will provide
indications of redundancies or omissions and aid in managing the soybean collection held at the RDA genebank. The information
on diversity analysis could help to enlarge the genetic diversity of materials in breeding programs and could be used to develop

The species Cynara cardunculus includes the globe artichoke (var. scolymus), the cultivated cardoon (var. altilis) and the wild cardoon (var. sylvestris). The three taxa are sexually compatible and originate fertile F
1 progenies, which, given the high heterozygosity of the species, are highly segregating. We report the characterization of
two F
1 populations, one bred from a cross between globe artichoke and cultivated cardoon, and the other between globe artichoke
and wild cardoon. Both populations featured a wide array of phenotypes in relation to several traits, and some of the newly
developed genotypes are of interest for the ornamental market. The two populations were genotyped at 50 microsatellite (SSR)
loci: in the globe artichoke × wild cardoon and globe artichoke × cultivated cardoon progenies 116 and 97 alleles were respectively
detected. SSR pattern scores were used to produce an UPGMA dendrogram and a PCoA plot. A set of nine SSR loci, evenly dispersed
across the genome, was shown to be sufficient to unambiguously identify each segregant. The molecular fingerprinting is useful
for establishing the true to type correspondence of propagative materials in nurseries and ensures the effective correspondence

Ploidy manipulations and interspecific crosses have allowed considerable genetic progress in Musa breeding, but estimation
of genetic parameters for parental selection remains a major challenge. This study aimed to determine the components of genetic
variance and the relative contribution of genetic effects to phenotypic variation of yield and phenological traits in secondary
triploid hybrids from tetraploid–diploid crosses. The hybrids were evaluated in two consecutive growth cycles on a tropical
forest site. Non-genetic effects accounted for a large fraction of the variation observed for most traits, except bunch weight.
Partitioning of genetic variance into additive and dominance components confirmed the predominant role of additive genetic
effects on the expression of bunch weight, fruit filling time, fruit length, plant height, and number of leaves while primarily
non-additive effects accounted for suckering behavior and fruit circumference. Maternal general combining ability (GCA) effects
accounted for the additive genetic variation in plant height and number of leaves, suggesting that selection for these traits
should be carried out in tetraploid clones. Conversely, paternal GCA effects were the primary causes of genetic variation
for fruit filling time, bunch weight, and fruit length, suggesting that these characters should be selected for in diploid
clones. Specific combining ability (SCA) effects were observed for all traits, except fruit filling time, suggesting that
additional genetic gain could be achieved through recombinative heterosis for these traits. 相似文献

There has been a strong demand for oat genotypes that contain caryopsis with high chemical quality which can suit the different market niches. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to assess the general (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) of white oat cultivars through diallelic crosses providing information about the genetic effects on expression of grain chemical quality components. Also, it was aimed to estimate the heterosis on F1 and F2 generations and the vigor loss due to inbreeding. During 2008, 21 hybrid populations F1 and F2 were obtained from artificial crossing among seven Brazilian white oat cultivars, following the complete diallel design, without considering the reciprocals. These populations and their parents were evaluated in the 2009 season in the experimental field in Capão do Leão, RS, Brazil. The higher values of mean squares associated to GCA indicates a strong contribution of additive genetic effects to the expression of grain chemical components. The parents tested showed a tendency to develop progeny with negative heterosis regarding protein, lipid, β-glucan and soluble dietary fiber in the grain, and positive for the content of nitrogen-free extract, total and insoluble dietary fiber. IAC 7 features a potential parent for obtaining grains with high protein and dietary fiber content, and low caloric content, fit to human diet. Meanwhile, UPF 15 and FAPA Louise can represent donors of alleles to increase lipid contents, while FAPA Louise and URS Guapa can be used to raise the grain nitrogen-free extract contents of lines intended for animal feeding. 相似文献

In recent years, microsatellites have become the most used markers for studying population genetic diversity. The increased
availability of the DNA sequences has given the possibility to develop EST-derived SSR markers. A total of 1,927 ESTs of Eleusine coracana available in the NCBI database were mined for SSRs. Di-nucleotides are the most occurring motifs accounting for more than
50% of the repeats, of which GA was the most abundant motif and tetra-nucleotides are the least occurring motifs. Of the 132
markers identified, 30 primer pairs based were synthesized. SSR markers were used for variety discrimination and genetic assessment
in 15 finger millet accessions; 20 primers showed polymorphism and 13 primers were identified as having a PIC value above
0.5. On the basis of the distribution of these polymorphic alleles, the 15 accessions were classified into two groups. This
study has demonstrated the potential of EST-derived SSR primer pairs in finger millet. These primers will serve as valuable
