The common marmoset is widely used in neuroscience and regenerative medicine research.
However, information concerning common marmoset disorders, particularly infectious
diseases, is scarce. Here, we report a case of a female common marmoset that died suddenly
due to gas gangrene. The animal presented with gaseous abdominal distention at postmortem,
and Clostridium perfringens type A was isolated from several tissues.
Vacuoles, a Gram-positive bacteremia and intravascular hemolysis were observed
microscopically in the muscles, liver and lungs. On the basis of these findings, we
diagnosed nontraumatic gas gangrene caused by Clostridium perfringens

Endostatin, a fragment of collagen XVIII, is known as an endogenous angiogenesis
inhibitor, and its serum concentration increases in various cardiovascular diseases.
T-type Ca2+ channel, low voltage-activated Ca2+ channel, is not
expressed in adult ventricular myocytes. Re-expression of T-type Ca2+ channels
in cardiac myocytes is thought to be involved in the development of cardiac hypertrophy.
We examined the effects of endostatin on T-type Ca2+ channel current by
whole-cell patch clamp technique in freshly isolated adult guinea pig ventricular
myocytes, which exceptionally express T-type Ca2+ channels. Although endostatin
300 ng/ml had no effect on L-type Ca2+
current, it significantly inhibited T-type Ca2+ current. These data indicate
that endostatin can be an endogenous inhibitor of T-type Ca2+ channels in the

The thymus is a primary lymphoid organ where the primary T cell repertoire is generated. Thymus atrophy is induced by various conditions, including infectious diseases, glucocorticoid treatment, and poor breeding management. Cattle with thymus atrophy tend to exhibit weak calf syndrome, a condition in which approximately half of neonates die shortly after birth. Calves with thymus atrophy that survive the first month typically contract chronic inflammatory diseases. In this study, we analyzed the populations of the peripheral blood mononuclear cells and thymocytes in calves with thymus atrophy. In addition, we evaluated polarization of master gene and cytokine mRNA expression in peripheral blood CD4+ cells in the calves. The population of CD4+CD8+ cells in thymus of the calves with thymus atrophy was lower than that of control calves. IL10 mRNA expression in peripheral blood CD4+ cells of calves with thymus atrophy was significantly lower than that of control calves. TBX21 mRNA expression in peripheral CD4+ cells of thymus atrophy calves was tended to be higher than that of the control group. In addition, FOXP3 mRNA expression in peripheral CD4+ cells of the thymus atrophy calves was tended to be lower than that of the control calves. Thymus atrophy calves exhibited chronic inflammatory disease leading, in severe situations, to conditions such as pneumonia with caseous necrosis. These severe inflammatory responses likely are due to decreases in IL10 mRNA expression, impairing control of macrophages, one of the main cell fractions of natural immunity. 相似文献

In the north-western Pacific, we found that locations of early fishing grounds of Pacific saury, Cololabis saira, are affected by two factors, the size composition and the meridional shift of the offshore Oyashio Front (OOF). Early fishing grounds are formed nearshore from the central Kuril Islands to Hokkaido in northward OOF years. In southward OOF years, they are far from the coasts. There also exists a tendency that early fishing grounds are formed south-westward (north-eastward) in years when a large (medium or small) size class of saury is dominant and when the OOF shifts north (south). These results support the hypothesis that saury migration is considerably influenced by oceanographic conditions, and that a large size class of saury leads to migration that can reach the vicinity of Japan early in the fishing season. 相似文献

Relations between the long-term variations in numbers of Japanese sardine and in ocean/climate were studied. We examined long-term records of the spring air temperature on the north-western coast of North America (ATNA; 40–50°N, 130–110°W) reconstructed from tree rings, and the sardine catch records inferred from documents dating from 1600 to 1990. High sardine catches occurred eight times in this period, and each high catch continued for 7–45 years. We found a significant difference in mean ATNAs between the abundant and poor catch periods: high (low) catch occurred in periods of high (low) ATNA. ATNA was negatively correlated with spring sea-surface temperature east of Japan (SSTJ; 36–40°N, 150–160°E), where the sardine possibly migrate north-eastward, a relation which was confirmed from 1940 to 1990. In years when the Aleutian Low Pressure System (AL) shifted south-east and intensified, the westerly wind was strong east of Japan along the south-western edge of the AL, resulting in low SSTJ; a warm south-westerly wind blows in the west coast of North America along the south-eastern edge of the AL. If we assume that this relation between ATNA and SSTJ can be extended back to the 1600s, high (low) catches occur in the period when SSTJ is low (high). This relation between sardine catch and SSTJ is consistent with previous studies based on data from after 1900. The present results suggest that long-term variations in Japanese sardine are related to interdecadal North Pacific ocean/climate variability. 相似文献
