High nitrogen fixing, phosphate solubilizing, phytohormones producing isolates of Azotobacter, Azospirillum, Acetobacter and Pseudomonas were used as inoculants for cotton. Important cultures were selected on the basis of their effect on root/shoot length and chemotactic behaviour. Selected bioinoculants were earlier tested for their beneficial properties like nitrogen fixation (ARA), ammonia excretion, IAA production etc. These bio-inoculants were further tested for phosphate solubilization property. Various chosen strains were tested with Desi (HD 123) and American (H 1098) cotton under field conditions (as for wheat). Plant height and boll weight were determined at the time of harvesting whereas survival rate of inoculated bacteria was determined after 30, 80 and 130 days respectively. In the year 2000–01, on the basis of boll number and boll weight plant?1 AVK 51 (36; 76.2?g plant?1), HT 57 (27; 56.9?g plant?1), AC18 (33; 61.5?g plant?1), Ala 27 (36; 61.4?g plant?1) and Pseudomonas (34; 71.3?g plant?1) were identified as significant both for American and desi cotton varieties. Highest survival rate was observed with Mac 68 (33.4 × 105) followed by HT54 (31.5 × 105) after 30 days of sowing, which decreased after 80 days and remained constant up to 130 days. This trend was observed with all the cultures. Similar results were observed in 2001–02. 25?kg ha?1 N saving was observed with A. chroococcum (AVK51) bioinoculant for cotton crop.  相似文献

Wind erosion has degraded over one-half billion hectares of land worldwide. 137Cesium (137Cs) has been used as a tracer to study long-term rates of soil redistribution by water and, to a lesser extent, by wind. Early studies assumed that the decline in 137Cs activity for a potentially eroded soil relative to that for an uneroded soil was linearly proportional to soil loss. More recently, models have emerged that consider the effects of soil cultivation and the particle surface area-dependent partitioning of 137Cs on soils. We investigated the partitioning of 137Cs in wind-eroded sediments and with soil surface samples sieved into contiguous ranges of particle sizes. We also compared the 137Cs activities and stratification of several adjacent soils with known wind erosion and deposition histories. Finally, we tested 137Cs-based soil loss models with measured data from sites with documented histories. 137Cs activities and mean particle diameters of aeolian samples agreed well with the 137Cs activities and respective mean diameters of the sieved surface soil samples. Good agreement between model estimations and measured data indicated that 137Cs models developed to estimate soil redistribution by water were also applicable to soil redistribution by wind provided that the models contained an appropriate particle size correction parameter.  相似文献

The objective was to study the use of ultrasound as a complementary test in the breeding soundness evaluation in male pigs and study the pattern of echogenicity of the testicular parenchyma in boars of different racial groups. Twenty‐six adult boars from four different racial groups were used, 10 from the Piau breed (group 1), four from the commercial and finishing group (group 2), six Pietrain breed (group 3) and six from the Duroc breed (group 4). All animals were evaluated for breeding soundness evaluation and the ultrasound examination of the testicles. The groups of animals that were evaluated showed no difference in the main semen parameters that were evaluated, except for the sperm volume, concentration of the ejaculated sperm and the supravital staining; the lowest figures were for the animals from the Piau breed (group 1). In relation to the testicular biometrics, Duroc animals (group 4) had a greater scrotal width compared to the other groups. But when we assessed the intensity of pixels of the testicles, there was a difference between groups. The groups 2 (finishing animals), 3 (Pietrain) and 4 had no difference between themselves. Group 3 had greater pixel intensity in relation to group 1. Of the 26 animals studied, five showed an abnormality during ultrasound evaluation, like hydrocele, hyperechoic mass in the testicular parenchyma, cyst in the head of the epididymis and the presence of fluid in the head and tail of the epididymis. The various animal groups studied did not differ in the principal reproductive parameters evaluated, showing that despite the great variability of reproductive traits between breeds and within the same breed, the breeding soundness evaluation, the more complete it is, is essential for the selection of breeders and the ultrasonography of the reproductive system becomes an important addition in this examination.  相似文献

Abstract. Crop responses to applied potassium fertilizers are erratic in many arid and semi-arid soils. The potassium supplying potential of river-bed sediments and release of interlayer potassium from eleven alkaline soils were measured in two separate experiments. Sediments from the Chenab and Ravi Rivers in Pakistan were exhausted of potassium by successively growing wheat, maize, mungbean, and wheat in them for a total of 200 days, using Hoagland solution to supply optimum amounts of other nutrients. Cumulative plant dry matter yield was significantly greater on the Chenab sediments. The quantities of potassium supplied to plants from the sediments of the two rivers were also significantly different. Interlayer potassium was extracted for 1230 minutes from a Udic Haplustalf (Pindorian series) by twelve different solutions each with the same electrolyte content (100 cmol). The sodium adsorption ratios (SAR) of the solutions were adjusted to 5, 10, 25, and 50, each with Ca: Mg ratios of 25:75, 50: 50 or 75:25, using solutions of sodium, calcium and magnesium chloride. The potassium released from the soil was inversely related to solution SAR. Increasing proportions of magnesium relative to calcium in solution favoured the release of potassium, except in the SAR 50 solution. Significantly different quantities of potassium were extracted by various solutions. Maximum potassium (442 mg/kg) was extracted by SAR 5 solution with a Ca: Mg ratio of 25:75. Interlayer potassium subsequently removed by this solution from 11 alkaline soils ranged from 407 to 499 mg/kg. The potassium released from all but three of the soils was related to their clay content (r= 0.72; n= 8). The release of potassium from the soils followed the Elovich function. The intercept (X1) and slope (X2) estimated for the function was related to potassium released (y) by the equation: y=?1.13 + 2.74X1?0.014X2 (r= 0.998; n= 8) The results imply that river sediments treated with irrigation water containing magnesium and sodium ions can contribute substantial amounts of available potassium for plant growth.  相似文献

The genetic stock Chinese Spring PhI (refer as CS-PhI hereafter) with the Ph I gene (Ph gene inhibitor, introduced from a high-pairing accession of Aegilops speltoides) was crossed as a male parent to a Tai-gu genic male-sterile wheat with the Tal gene and backcrossed once to CS-PhI to develop the Tal-PhI genetic stock. The Tal-PhI stock, CS-PhI as well as Chinese Spring (CS), were test-crossed using Aegilops peregrina (syn. Aegilops variabilis) to test the effectiveness of the Ph I gene inducing homoeologous chromosome pairing in the Tal-PhI stock. At meiotic I(MI) of pollen mother cells (PMCs), the average chromosome pairing of the TC1 testcrosses of TalCSPhIC08–4/Ae. peregrina, TalCSPhIC11–5/Ae. peregrina and CS/Ae. peregrina was 26.81 I + 3.64 II + 0.33  + 0.07 III + 0.01 IV, 24.75 I + 4.58 II + 0.25  + 0.21 III + 0.07 IV and 32.25 I + 1.38 II, respectively. These data indicated that the Ph I gene could promote homoeologous chromosome pairing in the Tai-gu male sterile background. In order to verify the introgression of the chromatin from Ae. speltoides into CS in the three CS-PhI lines, a total of 79 SSR primers located on group-3 chromosomes were used for PCR analysis using the genomic DNA of CS, Ae. speltoides and the three CS-PhI lines. Two markers Xwmc505 -110 and Xwmc674 -160 amplified S genome-specific fragments from Ae. speltoides in lines PhIC04–13 and PhIC11–5, providing molecular evidence for the introgression of Ae. speltoides-specific chromatin in the two lines. Furthermore, some 3D-specifc SSR markers were missing in line PhIC04–13, indicating there might be a deletion of chromosome 3D in this line. In further experiments, a BC1 population was produced from the cross of Tal-PhI/Triticum durum-Dasypyrum villosum amphiploid (AABBVV)//CS-PhI, and the progenies were further screened for chromosome recombination by GISH analysis. A homozygous translocation line T5VS·5VL-5DL was identified from the BC1F2 by genomic in situ hybridization, C-banding and SSR analysis. The results of the present study demonstrate the Tal-PhI is a useful genetic stock for transferring alien genes into common wheat.  相似文献

The Cassini Radio and Plasma Wave Science (RPWS) Langmuir probe (LP) sensor observed the cold plasma environment around Titan during the first two flybys. The data show that conditions in Saturn's magnetosphere affect the structure and dynamics deep in the ionosphere of Titan. The maximum measured ionospheric electron number density reached 3800 per cubic centimeter near closest approach, and a complex chemistry was indicated. The electron temperature profiles are consistent with electron heat conduction from the hotter Titan wake. The ionospheric escape flux was estimated to be 10(25) ions per second.  相似文献

The dose-response curve was quantified for the avian repellency of cinnamamide, a derivative of the plant secondary compound cinnamic acid, using a three-day, ‘short-term no-choice’ test. This test was designed to resemble more closely the availability of alternative food in the birds' natural environment than in previous no-choice studies. Cinnamamide reduced food consumption by feral pigeons (Columba livia Gmelin) at concentrations as low as 6.17 μmole g?1 food (0.09% w/w) and this reduction increased with concentration. An R50 index, the concentration at which food consumption was reduced by 50% was interpolated from the dose-response curve as 18.4 (±0.38) μmole g?1 food 10.26% w/w). This index can now be matched with those of related compounds in future structure-activity studies. The birds' response to cinnamamide changed over the three-day trial with respect to concentration. Repellency declined at concentrations < R50 and increased at concentrations > R50. This suggests that pigeons become habituated to cinnamamide at low concentrations but at high concentrations they may develop a conditioned aversion. This study provides quantitative confirmation of previous laboratory and field demonstrations of cinnamamide's effectiveness as a non-lethal chemical repellent suitable for reducing avian pest damage.  相似文献
