The aim of this study was to assess the effects of climate change on green and blue water use with temporal change in the transplanting and growing season for paddy fields in South Korea using the representative concentration pathway (RCP) 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios in 2025 (2011–2040), 2055 (2041–2070), and 2085 (2071–2100). The optimal transplant date determined by an accumulated temperature analysis, between 27 April and 21 May in 1995, was delayed until 29 June in 2085, and the average growing period was decreased by about 20 days in 2085. Changes in the transplanting season and growing period could influence the efficiency of future green water use and blue water savings. Approximately 810.5 Mm3 of green water was available during the 1995 transplanting season, but the predicted use of green water was 1524.7 Mm3 in future for the optimal transplanting season. In addition, 923.0 Mm3 of blue water savings can be expected in 2025. This study showed that appropriate change of transplanting season could mitigate the water requirements in paddy fields by optimizing phenology, improving green water efficiency, and blue water savings.  相似文献

Soil tillage may increase vulnerability to water erosion, whereas no tillage and other conservation cultivation techniques are viewed as strategies to control soil erosion. The objective of this research was to quantify runoff and soil losses by water erosion under different soil tillage systems at the Santa Catarina Highlands, southern Brazil. A field study was carried out using a rotating-boom rainfall simulator with 64 mm h−1 rainfall intensity on a Typic Hapludox, between April 2003 and May 2004. Five rainfall tests were applied along successive cropstages. Surface cover was none (fallow) or soybean (Glycine max, L.). Five treatments were investigated, replicated twice. These treatments were conventional tillage on bare soil (BS) as a control treatment and the following treatments under soybean: conventional tillage (CT), no tillage over burnt crop residues on never before cultivated land (NT-B), no tillage over desiccated crop residues, also on never before cultivated land (NT-D) and traditional no tillage over desiccated crop residues on a soil tilled 4 years before this experiment (NT-PT). Water losses by surface runoff seemed to be more influenced by vegetative crop stadium than by tillage system and consequently a wide range of variation in surface runoff was found, following successive cropstages. The most efficient tillage system in reducing surface runoff and soil losses was no tillage, particularly the NT-PT treatment. Sediment losses were more influenced by tillage system than water losses. In the NT-B, NT-D and NT-PT treatments the rate of sediment losses along the crop vegetative cycle showed a tendency to increase from the first to the second cropstages and later to decrease from the third cropstage onwards. In the conventionally tilled treatment (CT) soil losses were greater than in any of the no tillage treatments (NT-D, NT-B and NT-PT) during the initial growth periods, but at the end of the vegetative period differences in sediment rates between tilled and non-tilled treatments tended to be smaller. In the BS control treatment, soil losses progressively increased following the vegetative growth season of soybean.  相似文献

Testing techniques to reduce weed infestation is a crucial step in developing direct tree seeding systems. The use of pre-emergence herbicides may be an alternative to manual weeding techniques, but so far, information on how they affect the seeds of native tree species is scarce. We established a greenhouse experiment to evaluate the effects of four pre-emergence herbicides (atrazine, diuron, isoxaflutole and oxyfluorfen) on weed suppression and seedling emergence and early growth of seven tropical forest tree species (Annona coriacea Mart., Citharexylum myrianthum Cham., Cordia ecalyculata Vell., Peltophorum dubium (Spreng.) Taub., Psidium guajava L., Pterogyne nitens Tul. and Schinus terebinthifolia Raddi). The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with five treatments and five replicates. The treatments consisted of a single dose of each pre-emergence herbicide and a control. Throughout the 60 days after sowing we evaluated weed cover and seedling emergence and early growth of tree species. Overall, our results suggest that all tested herbicides reduced weed cover; however, they also negatively affected tree species seedling emergence. Of the four herbicides tested, atrazine and diuron showed the greatest effects on tree seedling emergence, oxyfluorfen was least aggressive towards native species and isoxaflutole was most effective in weed control. Native tree species varied in their responses to herbicides, indicating that future experiments should increase the number of species tested as well as investigate how seed traits can affect the species responses to different herbicides.  相似文献

Microorganisms, capable of proteolysis, are widely distributed in soil but almost nothing is known about the abundance of genes related to protein degradation and the regulation of their activity in terrestrial ecosystems. Therefore, the aim of this study was: (1) to quantify two bacterial genes involved in protein degradation, (2) to investigate factors affecting the abundance of these genes, and (3) to relate this data to potential proteolytic activities. For this purpose, an arable field in southern Germany under integrated management was studied. The uniformly managed field showed pronounced soil heterogeneity with four different soil types. In April, July and October 2003, soil samples were taken from the four soil types at three different depths. We applied a real-time PCR assay for quantification of subtilisin (sub) and neutral metalloprotease (npr) genes, both encoding for extracellular proteases, as well as the 16S rRNA gene representing a rough estimate of the size of the bacterial populations. Potential proteolytic activity was measured using casein as a substrate. Both soil type and time of sampling influenced the size and activity of the bacterial protease genes under investigation. Total nitrogen and carbon availability was, beside soil texture, the main factor responsible for the observed changes in the abundance of proteolytic genes and potential proteolytic activity. Whereas a positive relationship was found between sub and npr gene copy numbers and the number of 16S rRNA gene copies in all cases, a positive relationship between sub and npr coding genes and potential proteolytic activity was only found for sandy soils. This indicates that sandy soils cannot stabilize proteolytic enzymes and the activity of npr and sub genes is strictly dependent on the presence of the corresponding genes. In contrast, in clay soils proteolytic activity was not correlated with the abundance of the genes analyzed, probably due to the stabilization of the proteolytic enzymes.  相似文献

SUMMARY: Psittacine beak and feather disease virus (PBFDV) was administered to adult galahs ( Eolophusroselcapillus ) by mouth or by intramuscular injection. Concentration of PBFDV antibodies in serum and excretion of PBFDV were monitored by haemagglutlnation inhibition (HI) and haemagglutination (HA) respectively. After oral administration, 17 of 18 galahs remained clinically normal and a small rise in antibody titre was detected in 3 of 18 birds. After intramuscular administration, antibody was detected in all birds. PBFDV was not detected in the feather dander of birds in either group. One bird developed diarrhoea and high faecal HA titres within 4 days of oral administration and then died. Adult and nestling cockatoos were vaccinated with an experimental inactivated double-oil emulsion vaccine. PBFDV antibody responses are comparable to those induced by a primary-oil emulsion vaccination regimen using Freund's adjuvants. Both vaccines protected nestlings. Three sibling wild-caught sulphur-crested cockatoos were vaccinated but died of PBFD before experimental challenge despite antibody responses in all birds. Unvaccinated control chicks developed acute PBFD within 4 weeks of challenge, probably from PBFDV-induced hepatitis since high concentrations of PBFDV were detected in their livers.  相似文献

SUMMARY Simple and sensitive haemagglutination and haemagglutination Inhibition assays were developed for psittacine beak and feather disease (PBFD) virus and serum antibody, respectively. The assays were used in the examination of samples from 73 birds clinically affected with PBFD. High antigen titres (log2 9 to log2 12) were detected In feathers, faeces and cloacal contents of PBFD-affected birds. Antigen was not detected In either faecal or feather samples from 20 normal galahs (Eolophus roselcapillus) and 9 normal sulphur crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita). After kaolin treatment and haemadsorption of serum, haemagglutination inhibition (HI) antibody titres could not be detected in serum from 42 PBFD-affected birds, whereas serum HI titres from 64 normal psittacine birds ranged from less than log2 1 to log2 8. Serum and yolk HI antibody responses of 6 PBFD virus-inoculated layer hens were measured. Pre-inoculation chicken sera contained high concentrations of non-specific haemagglutination inhibitors (not detected in chloroform-extracted yolk), which were removed by kaolin treatment and haemadsorption.  相似文献

An esterase or esterases in acetone powder preparations of mouse liver microsomes hydrolyze the cyclopropanecarboxylate ester linkage of pyrethroid insecticide chemicals derived from primary alcohols. The rate of cleavage of (+)-trans-chrysanthemates with various alcohol moieties decreases in the following order: 5-propargyl-2-furylmethyl; 5-benzyl-3-furylmethyl (bioresmethrin); 3-phenoxybenzyl; tetrahydrophthalimidomethyl esters. The hydrolysis rate of benzylfurylmethyl esters with various acid moieties decreases in the order: (+)- or (?)-trans-chrysanthemate; (+)-trans-ethanochrysanthemate; tetramethylcyclopropanecarboxylate; (+)- or (?)-cis-chrysanthemate or (+)-cis-ethanochrysanthemate. The trans-isomers of chrysanthemates and ethanochrysanthemates are hydrolyzed from 2.6- to more than 50-fold more rapidly than the corresponding cis-isomers. This enzyme system does not hydrolyze secondary alcohol esters, i.e., allethronyl (+)-trans- and (+)-cis-chrysanthemates.On intraperitoneal administration to mice, the (+)-trans-chrysanthemate and -ethanochrysanthemate of benzylfurylmethanol are of very low toxicity relative to the corresponding (+)-cis-isomers and the tetramethylcyclopropanecarboxylate. S,S,S-tributyl phosphorotrithioate (DEF) pretreatment increases the toxicity of these five compounds by 2.6- to more than 188-fold, with the exception of bioresmethrin whose toxicity is not altered. When the toxicity is increased, it is probably the result of esterase inhibition since DEF strongly inhibits the esterase activity of fresh liver microsomes while the mixed-function oxidase system remains active. The oxidase system metabolizes the chrysanthemates more rapidly than the ethanochrysanthemates of benzylfuryl-methanol. Depending upon the pyrethroid involved, the esterase or the mixed-function oxidase system, or both may be responsible for limiting the toxicity of these pyrethroids to mice.  相似文献
