Udder-thigh dermatitis (UTD) is a common disease in dairy cattle. The aim of this study was to define UTD incidence, its risk factors and the involved pathogens. Of 74 respondents, 72 (97%) reported having had the disease. On those farms the incidence was 5.3 cases per 100 cow years. The odds ratio (OR) of UTD in primiparous compared to multiparous cows was 23.4 (95% CI 17.3-33.8). Compared to tied stalls, the ORs of UTD were 0.65 (95% CI 0.45-0.92) and 0.43 (95% CI 0.24-0.71) for free stalls and straw yards, respectively. Udder oedema was reported in 98.3% of cows with UTD. The most common bacteria isolated from affected skin were Fusobacterium spp. (12/14 cases). This study suggests that UTD management should focus on local treatment, reducing udder oedema and increasing exercise. 相似文献

Objective To evaluate the anaesthetic death risk for dogs and cats in a French private practice. Study design Observational cohort study. Animal population All small animals anesthetized at the Centre Hospitalier Vétérinaire des Cordeliers between April 15th, 2008 and April 15th, 2010. Methods General anaesthesia was defined as a drug‐induced unconsciousness characterised by a controlled and reversible depression of the central nervous system and analgesia, sufficient to allow endotracheal intubation. Patient outcome (alive or dead) was assessed at the end of anaesthesia defined as the meeting point of the return of consciousness, rectal temperature >36 °C and ability to maintain sternal recumbency. Death occurring during anaesthesia was recorded. Relationship between anaesthetic death and ASA status, species, age, nature of the procedure, anaesthetic protocol and occurrence of epidural administration of a combination of morphine and bupivacaine were analysed. Results During the study period 3546 animals underwent general anaesthesia. The overall death rate in the present study was 1.35% (48 in 3546, 95% CI 0.96–1.75). The death rate of healthy animals (ASA 1 and 2) was 0.12% (3 in 2602 95% CI 0.02–0.34). For sick animals (ASA status 3 and over), the overall death rate was 4.77% (45 in 944 95% CI 3.36–6.18). The death rates in the ASA 3, 4 and 5 categories were 2.90%, 7.58% and 17.33%, respectively. The main factor associated with increased odds of anaesthetic death in ASA categories 3 and over was poor health status (ASA physical status classification). The nature of the procedure the patient underwent and epidural administration of a combination of morphine and bupivacaine were not correlated with the occurrence of death during anaesthesia. Neither species nor age effects were detected. Conclusion and clinical relevance Specific factors were associated with increased odds of anaesthetic death, especially poor health status. Efforts must be directed towards thorough preoperative patient evaluation and improvement of clinical conditions if possible. Identification of risk factors before anaesthesia should lead to increased surveillance by trained staff. This could result in better outcomes. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: The dissipation kinetics of the herbicide sulcotrione sprayed 4 times on a French soil was studied using a laboratory microcosm approach. An advanced cultivation‐based method was then used to isolate the bacteria responsible for biotransformation of sulcotrione. Chromatographic methods were employed as complementary tools to define its metabolic pathway. RESULTS: Soil microflora was able quickly to biotransform the herbicide (DT50 ≈ 8 days). 2‐Chloro‐4‐mesylbenzoic acid, one of its main metabolites, was clearly detected. However, no accelerated biodegradation process was observed. Eight pure sulcotrione‐resistant strains were isolated, but only one (1OP) was capable of degrading this herbicide with a relatively high efficiency and to use it as a sole source of carbon and energy. In parallel, another sulcotrione‐resistant strain (1TRANS) was shown to be incapable of degrading the herbicide. Amplified ribosomal restriction analysis (ARDRA) and repetitive extragenic palendromic PCR genomic (REP‐PCR) fingerprinting of strains 1OP and 1TRANS gave indistinguishable profiles. CONCLUSION: Sequencing and aligning analysis of 16S rDNA genes of each pure strain revealed identical sequences and a close phylogenetic relationship (99% sequence identity) to Pseudomonas putida. Such physiological and genetic properties of 1OP to metabolise sulcotrione were probably governed by mobile genetic elements in the genome of the bacteria. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of a silicone dressing on the rate and quality of repair of limb wounds and compare microvascular occlusion and apoptosis in wounds treated with the silicone dressing and those treated with a conventional dressing in horses. ANIMALS: 5 horses. PROCEDURE: Horses received two 6.25-cm2 wounds on each metacarpus. Ten wounds were treated with a silicone dressing; the other 10 were treated with a control dressing. Quality of repair and wound size were evaluated at each bandage change. Time to healing and the number of excisions of exuberant granulation tissue were recorded. Biopsy specimens taken from healed wounds were evaluated semiquantitatively via histologic examination, p53 immunohistochemical analysis, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL) to quantify apoptosis, and electron microscopic examination to measure microvessel luminal diameters. RESULTS: The silicone dressing surpassed the conventional dressing in preventing formation of exuberant granulation tissue and improving tissue quality. Microvessels were occluded significantly more often in wounds dressed with the silicone gel, which also diminished the expression of mutant p53, an indirect inhibitor of apoptosis, although greater apoptosis was not confirmed quantitatively by use of TUNEL. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Because the silicone dressing inhibited the formation of exuberant granulation tissue, it may be integrated in a management strategy designed to improve the repair of limb wounds in horses. 相似文献

The tissue concentration and efficacy of ivermectin after per os and subcutaneous administration were compared in goats experimentally infected with Trichostrongylus colubriformis (ivermectin-susceptible strain, INRA). Infected goats (n = 24) were treated per os (n = 9) or subcutaneously (n = 9) with ivermectin, 0.2 mg/kg, or kept as not treated controls. The faecal egg counts and small intestine worm counts were determined. Ivermectin concentration was measured in the plasma, gastrointestinal tract, lung, skin or hair, liver and adipose tissues at 0, 2, 7 and 17 days post-treatment. The efficacy of ivermectin against T. colubriformis infection in goat was 98.7 and 99.9% for subcutaneous and oral administration, respectively. Ivermectin concentration declined with time and only residual concentration was measured at 17 days post-treatment in plasma and gastrointestinal tract. Ivermectin concentration was higher after subcutaneous compared to per os injection in most of the tissue examined. In skin, hair and subcutaneous adipose tissue ivermectin persisted at significant concentrations 17 days post-treatment for both routes of administration. In our experimental conditions, ivermectin provides similar efficacy against T. colubriformis after subcutaneous or per os administration in goat. However, the lower ivermectin levels in tissues after per os administration suggest that the lasting of efficacy may be shortened after per os compared to subcutaneous administration especially in animals with poor body condition in pasture where re-infection occurs quickly after anthelmintic treatment. 相似文献

We have investigated the process of evolution of target-site-based resistance to herbicides inhibiting acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) in nine French populations of black-grass (Alopecurus myosuroides Huds). To date, two different ACCase resistant alleles are known. One contains an isoleucine-to-leucine substitution at position 1781, the second contains an isoleucine-to-asparagine substitution at position 2041. Using phylogenetic analysis of ACCase sequences, we showed that 1781Leu ACCase alleles evolved from four independent origins in the nine black-grass populations studied, while 2041Asn ACCase alleles evolved from six independent origins. No geographical structure of black-grass populations was revealed. This implies that these populations, although geographically distant, are, or have until recently been, connected by gene flows. Comparison of biological data obtained from herbicide sensitivity bioassay and molecular data showed that distinct resistance mechanisms often exist in a single black-grass population. Accumulation of different resistance mechanisms in a single plant was also demonstrated. We conclude that large-scale evolution of resistance to herbicides in black-grass is a complex phenomenon, resulting from the independent selection of various resistance mechanisms in local black-grass populations undergoing contrasted herbicide and agronomical selection pressures, and connected by gene flows whose parameters remain to be determined. 相似文献

Computed tomography (CT) was performed on 36 dogs with nasal aspergillosis to assess whether this imaging technique can be used to predict the success of a noninvasive intranasal infusion of enilconazole. A CT score based on the severity of the disease was given to each dog, prior to treatment, by dividing the nasal cavities and frontal sinuses into 8 anatomical regions. After therapy, the dogs were classified into 2 response groups (success group: dogs cured after 1 treatment; failure group: dogs needing more than 1 treatment or with treatment failure). No significant relationship on the logistic scale was found between the CT score and the response to treatment. High sensitivity (treatment failures correctly predicted) and specificity (treatment successes correctly predicted) could not be obtained at the same time, whatever the cut-off value chosen. The results of this study suggest that CT cannot predict the therapeutic success of nasal aspergillosis in dogs treated with a 1-hour infusion of enilconazole. However, dogs with a low score seem to be good candidates to respond after 1 treatment. 相似文献

Although the molecular bases of resistance to anthelmintic families have been intensively studied, the contributing factors for the development of anthelmintic resistance are less well known. Clear recommendations must be given to farmers in order to delay the onset of anthelmintic resistance. Until now, the main advice has concerned the reduction of treatment frequency in order to slow down the spread of resistance. Anthelmintic resistance development depends mostly on an efficient selection pressure. This means that a high treatment frequency is neither necessary nor sufficient to select for resistance. The contribution of resistant worms, which have survived an anthelmintic treatment, to the subsequent generation is the key factor that controls resistance spread. This point is illustrated by five surveys conducted on sheep and goat farms from France and Morocco. In the 52 farms studied, less than three anthelmintic treatments were given each year. Three characteristics of breeding management can be identified in the build up of anthelmintic resistance: (1) the introduction of resistant worms through the purchase of sheep/goats or the use of common pastures, grazed by several herds/flocks, (2) under-dosing of hosts and the repeated use of one class of drugs, (3) the size of the population in refugia (infective larvae on pastures) at the time of the treatment. The role played by these breeding management factors in selecting for resistance is discussed. The most efficient way to limit the increase of anthelmintic resistance remains the reduction of the selection pressure by drugs, and optimal timing to maximise their efficacy. 相似文献
