The aim of this study was to collect further data about levels of endogenous hormones in foodstuffs derived from animal production. Because of expected higher concentrations of especially estrogens in colostrum compared to other foodstuffs, our investigation focused on this matrix. For evaluation of endogenous steroid hormones in separated colostrum (fat and defatted fraction) and colostrum powder, the relevant free and conjugated estrogens (estradiol-17β, estradiol-17α, estrone, and estriol) androgens (androstendione, 19nor-androstendione, 19nor-testosterone-17β, 19nor-testosterone-17α, testosterone-17β, and testosterone-17α), and progesterone were determined by means of liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Upmost determined concentrations were found in the fat fraction, with 25.56 and 7.59 μg/L for estrone and androstendione, respectively. In defatted milk and colostrum powder, conjugated estrogens dominated, whereas total (free and conjugated) estrone (5.51 μg/L; 15.0 μg/kg) exceeded estradiol-17α (2.66 μg/L; 7.5 μg/kg) and estradiol-17β (2.28 μg/L; 3.3 μg/kg). Neither 19nor-steroids nor estriol were detected in colostrum fractions or processed colostrum.  相似文献

In future, prolonged summer drought and heat will constitute a major risk for the cultivation of shallow‐rooting beech in Central Europe and will negatively affect the productivity of beech forests. In a pot experiment under controlled conditions, the influence of long‐term (28 d) water deprivation on nitrogen (N), carbon (C), phosphate (Pi), and ascorbate (ASC) concentrations was examined in leaves and fine roots of beech seedlings (Fagus sylvatica L.) from six provenances originating from Central Europe (Germany: Neidenstein and Illertissen, intermediate habitats), the Balkan peninsula (Croatia: Zagreb and Gospic, wet habitats), and Southeast Europe (Bulgaria: Kotel, Greece: Paikos; dry habitats). The goal of the study was to identify beech provenances well adapted to water limitation during summer drought events. Our results suggest that N might be involved in the alleviation of water scarcity, whereas Pi might become a limiting factor for forest growth during drought periods. Drought stress resulted in significant changes of ASC pools in leaves and fine roots and the ASC redox state. Under well‐watered and under drought conditions, ASC in leaves was the most important factor causing differences between the provenances examined. Finally, a link between P nutrition and the capacity of antioxidative stress defense by ascorbate could be highlighted. Based on observations from this study, beech seedlings from three origins (Paikos, Zagreb, and Neidenstein) might constitute beech provenances well adapted to water shortage in summer. This conclusion is drawn from the high potential of these provenances to alleviate oxidative stress during water shortage.  相似文献

This study provides an analysis on the variability of structural timber of Norway spruce (Picea abies) grown in Norway. Density, modulus of elasticity (MOE) and bending strength were measured on 1188 boards from 205 trees, sampled from 14 sites throughout Southern Norway, Eastern Norway and Trøndelag. The area represents the procurement area for the majority of Norwegian sawmills. The variability of the timber properties was analysed in a linear mixed model where the random variance was divided into variance due to site, variance due to trees and within-tree variance. Models describing variance due to site based on site index, altitude and latitude were developed, and combined with data from the Norwegian National Forest Inventory to estimate mean values and variability of the timber properties. The results showed that major parts of the variance due to site are explained by altitude and site index, and for density also by latitude. Major parts of the variance due to site and the variance due to trees in bending strength and MOE were explained by density.  相似文献

Summary The direct and indirect damaging effect of fertilizers, in forest perts.Insects depend on the physiological conditions of the plants on which they feed. Heat and dryness increases the content of sugar, aproximatly up to 50%, and other untrients in the plants during rainy seasons the proportion of sugar decrease. The osmotic valuation can be used as indicator of the physiological conditions of the plants.The high concentration of sugar stimulates the development of the insects. But they also thrives on plants with high turger. For example young larvae crowth only on newly burst open most turgescent needles and leaves. This will be demonstrated by the larvae ofLiparis monacha L.,Limantria dispar L., Pristiphora abietina Christ. and two Dreyfusia on the young needles of the silvec fir.Radio-active fertilizers enter the plants and insect feeding. Phosphorus (P 34) is mainly found in the intesties Calcium (Ca 45) is much more deposited in the Vasa Malpighi. Wie have the idea that the fertilizing may over-feed this organs.Our experiences demonstrates that the physiological conditions of the plants in spring and summer has upon the insects no decisive effect. The direct damaging effect of the fertilizers on the larvae is more violent. The absorbed fertilizers dangerously disturb the metabolism of the insects.  相似文献

Targeting polyamines of parasitic protozoa in chemotherapy has attracted attention because polyamines might reveal novel drug targets for antiparasite therapies (Müller et al. 2001). The biological function of the triamine spermidine in parasitic protozoa has not been studied in great detail although the results obtained mainly imply three different functions, i.e., cell proliferation, cell differentiation, and biosynthesis of macromolecules. Sequence information from the malaria genome project databases and inhibitor studies provide evidence that the current status of spermidine research has to be extended since enzymes of spermidine metabolism are present in the parasite (Kaiser et al. 2001). Isolation and characterisation of these enzymes, i.e., deoxyhypusine synthase (EC 1.1.1.249) (DHS) and homospermidine synthase (EC 2.5.1.44) (HSS) might lead to valuable new targets in drug therapy. Currently research on spermidine metabolism is based on the deposition of the deoxyhypusine synthase nucleic acid sequence in GenBank while the activity of homospermidine synthase was deduced from inhibitor studies. Spermidine biosynthesis is catalyzed by spermidine synthase (EC 2.5.1.16) which transfers an aminopropyl moiety from decarboxylated S-adenosylmethionine to putrescine. Spermidine is also an important precursor in the biosynthesis of the unusual amino acid hypusine (Wolff et al. 1995) and the uncommon triamine homospermidine in eukaryotes, in particular in pyrrolizidine alkaloid-producing plants (Ober and Hartmann 2000). Hypusine is formed by a two-step enzymatic mechanism starting with the transfer of an aminobutyl moiety from spermidine to the epsilon-amino group of one of the lysine residues in the precursor protein of eukaryotic initiation factor eIF5A by DHS (Lee and Park 2000). The second step of hypusinylation is completed by deoxyhypusine hydroxylase (EC 1.14.9929) (Abbruzzese et al. 1985). Homospermidine formation in eukaryotes parallels deoxyhypusine formation in the way that in an NAD(+)-dependent reaction an aminobutyl moiety is transferred from spermidine. In the case of homospermidine synthase, however the acceptor is putrescine. Thus the triamine homospermidine consists of two symmetric aminobutyl moieties while there is one aminobutyl and one aminopropyl moiety present in spermidine. Here, we review the metabolism of the triamine spermidine with particular focus on the biosynthesis of hypusine and homospermidine in parasitic protozoa, i.e., Plasmodium, Trypanosoma and Leishmania, compared to that in prokaryotes i.e., Escherichia coli, a phytopathogenic virus and pyrrolizidine alkaloid-producing plants (Asteraceae) and fungi.  相似文献
