Most of the Brazilian soils, especially in Cerrado biome, have high acidity and toxic aluminium, making the application of limestone an indispensable technique to obtain high yield in soybean crop. The hypothesis of this study was that contrasting base saturation provides changes in water-use efficiency (WUE) and agronomic traits of soybean populations. Thus, we evaluated the WUE and agronomic performance of F3 soybean populations under different base saturation levels. Each experiment was conducted in a randomized complete blocks design with three replicates and 10 F3 populations (P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6, P7, P8, P9 and P10) for two crop seasons. Segregating populations were obtained by bulk method. In the first experiment, F3 populations were evaluated without correction of base saturation (V = 30%), while in the second experiment, limestone was applied three months before sowing to increase base saturation to 60%. The traits evaluated were as follows: calcium, magnesium and potassium contents, water-use efficiency (WUE), plant height, first pod height, main stem diameter and grain yield. Our findings indicate that WUE and agronomic performance of F3 soybean populations depends on the saturation condition. We identified the P4 and P9 populations as the most promising for use in breeding programmes aiming at higher tolerance to abiotic stress caused by low base saturation in soil.  相似文献

The effect of some viticultural parameters on the grape carotenoid profile was investigated. Grape cultivar, ripeness stage, sunlight and shade exposure, altitude, and vegetative height were studied. Differences between cultivars were observed in eight different black grape varieties: Touriga Brasileira (TBR), Tinta Barroca (TB), Tinta Amarela (TA), Souz?o (S), Touriga Franca (TF), Touriga Nacional (TN), Tinta Roriz (TR), and Tinto C?o (TC), from the Douro region. TA and TBR clearly produced higher concentrations of carotenoids. Results showed that carotenoid content decreased during ripening. Decreases of lutein were observed until 66%, whereas beta-carotene slowly decreased, having a constant level until the harvest date. Carotenoid contents were consistently higher in grapes exposed to shade than in those exposed to direct sunlight in both studied white grape varieties, Maria Gomes (MG) and Loureiro (L). In the Douro Valley, high-elevation terraces, which presented a lower temperature and higher humidity during the maturation period, appeared to produce grapes with higher carotenoid values. Grapes grown with higher vegetative height seem to have higher carotenoid levels; furthermore, grapes grown with lower vegetative height had higher weight and sugar concentrations.  相似文献

Objective – To describe a case of leishmaniasis associated with nephrotic syndrome and aortic and caudal vena cava thrombosis in a dog. Case Summary – A 3‐year‐old male Boxer was referred to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Lisbon, with vomiting, polyuria, polydipsia, lethargy, anorexia, and weight loss. On admission, the dog was thin, quiet, and dehydrated. Initial laboratory abnormalities were compatible with a diagnosis of leishmaniasis (confirmed by serology and bone marrow aspirate), and nephrotic syndrome. Three days later, the animal developed lumbar pain, paraparesis, and absent femoral pulses. Coagulation tests showed a marked reduction in antithrombin (AT) and a mild increase in serum fibrinogen concentration. A diagnosis of thromboembolism was made. In spite of treatment aimed at controlling the primary condition and decreasing further thrombus formation, necrosis developed in the distal right pelvic limb and the nail beds of the left pelvic limb. Against medical advice, medication was stopped and, 15 days later, the dog returned to the hospital, showing extensive necrosis of both pelvic limb extremities. Euthanasia was performed at the owner's request. Necropsy showed a thrombus localized at the distal aorta and extending into the right iliac artery, and an additional thrombus extending from both femoral veins onto the caudal vena cava. New or Unique Information Provided – Thromboembolic disease is rare in dogs with leishmaniasis with nephrotic syndrome. This case suggests that a marked decrease in AT and a mild increase in serum fibrinogen may elicit a hypercoagulable state in these patients.  相似文献

Two hundred and fifteen Estrela Mountain Dogs (EMD) were examined using the PennHIP method between 2002 and 2006. Passive hip laxity (PHL) was estimated calculating the distraction index (DI). Pedigree information was obtained from the Portuguese Kennel Club. The heritability and breeding values were estimated using the linear Animal Model. The DI, using as reference the worst joint of each animal, ranged from 0.15 to 1.12 (0.55 +/- 0.19). The PHL was equal in right and left sides, and was higher in females than in males (P > 0.05 and P <0.01 in the t-test, respectively). The estimated heritability was 0.83 +/- 0.11. The mean breeding values for PHL were stable in EMD born between 1991 and 2003, and showed an improvement in 2004 and 2005. The data confirm high PHL in breeds with high prevalence and severity of canine hip dysplasia. The high heritability indicates that the DI could be reduced in the breed if PHL were used as a selection criterion. The early favourable evolution of DI breeding values could be related with the increase of voluntary radiographic hip screening in the last years, and the subsequent introduction of hip quality as a breeding criterion.  相似文献

The aims of this study were to compare the suitability of the multi-trait (MUT) model to estimate genetic parameters with that of 13 reduced-rank principal component models (PC1 to PC13), and then to explore the additive genetic patterns of the breeding values obtained from these using clustering analyses of egg production traits. A total of 1,212 records were used to estimate genetic parameters using the MUT and PC models. The PC4 model was the best representation of the data since it had a lower AIC value and was more parsimonious than the MUT model. The estimated heritability of the age at the first egg (AFE) trait from this model was 0.28?±?0.06, and the estimated genetic correlation between AFE and total egg production (TP) was ?0.52?±?0.23. Potentially animals from cluster 2 are more likely to be in the selected group to help improve the egg production.  相似文献

1. The spatial distribution of aerial pollutants was measured in a large deep‐litter pullet house, initially holding 10,000 birds, at 12 sites within the birds’ breathing zone: on 6 occasions when the birds were between 8 and 27 d of age and on two occasions when the birds were 29 and 34 d of age and the flock size was halved.

2. The distribution of most pollutants appeared uniform, implying that all sites could be considered representative of the overall concentration of pollutant.

3. The concentration of ammonia differed between sites, probably because of local variations in the rate of release from the litter. The number concentration of non‐respirable particles (> 5 μm in diameter) became heterogeneous when the flock size was halved.

4. The operation of two punka fans had no effect on the spatial distribution of aerial pollutants, but increased the maximum air speed from 0.08 to 0.16 m/s.

5. Recommendations are given for the minimum number of sampling sites necessary for a predetermined level of statistical accuracy. Eight sites at least are recommended for most aerial pollutants, though more are needed for the concentration of gaseous ammonia.  相似文献

Six nostoclide analogues were synthesised from 3-benzyl-2(5H)-furanone in one step, with yields ranging from 10 to 71%, and subjected to several biological assays. The two most active of these, 5d and 5e, were shown to be phytogrowth inhibitors of the radicle of Lolium multiflorum Lam, while enhancing the root growth of Physalis ixocarpa Brot. Both compounds inhibited electron flow (basal, phosphorylating and uncoupled) from water to methylviologen (MV); both acted as Hill reaction inhibitors, since the synthesis of ATP was prevented. The uncoupled electron transport from photosystem II (PSII) (water to 2,6-dichlorophenol-indophenol (DPIP)) and photosystem I (PSI) (2,6-dichlorophenol-indophenol reduced (DPIPred) to MV) was inhibited with 500 microM of 5d by 22 and 14% respectively. In addition, 400 microM of 5d inhibited PSI (from tetramethyl-p-benzohydroquinone (TMQH(2)) to MV) by 40%. Thus 5d inhibited electron transport at the b(6)f complex. Finally, 500 microM of 5e inhibited electron flow (basal and phosphorylating) by 25%, and 300 microM of 5e enhanced light-activated membrane-bound Mg(2+)-ATPase by 66%. Thus 5e behaved as a weak Hill reaction inhibitor and an uncoupler. In general, the phytotoxicity of the synthetic lactones was only weakly related to inhibition of photosynthesis.  相似文献

Dissimilatory iron-reducing bacteria play a fundamental role in catalysing the redox transformations that ultimately control the mobility of As in anoxic environments, a process also controlled by the presence of competing anions. In this study, we investigated the decoupling of As from loaded Al and Fe (hydr)oxides by competing anions in the presence of iron-reducing bacteria. Hematite, goethite, ferrihydrite, gibbsite and three aluminium-substituted goethites (AlGts) were synthesised and loaded with arsenate, followed by anaerobic incubation with different phosphate or carbonate-containing media in the presence of catalytic iron-reducing bacteria. Soluble Al, As, Fe and P contents were measured in aliquots by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry following periodical sampling. Shewanella putrefaciens cells were able to utilise both non-crystalline and crystalline Fe (hydr)oxides as electron acceptors, releasing Fe and As into solution. Phosphate and carbonate affected the Fe bioreduction, probably due to the precipitation of metastable mineral phases and also to phosphate-induced stabilisation on the hydroxide surfaces. Phosphate precipitation acted as a sink for As, thus limiting its mobilisation. The highest fraction of desorbed As by phosphate was observed for gibbsite, followed by AlGts. Similarly, gibbsite showed significant amounts of arsenate displaced by carbonate. In spite of its low crystallinity, ferrihydrite was the most efficient compound in retaining arsenate, possibly due to As co-precipitation. This study provides new insight into the management of As-contaminated soils and sediments containing Al-goethites and gibbsite, where the Fe activity may be too low to co-precipitate As-bearing vivianite. Thus, the dynamics of As(V) in flooded soils are significant in agriculture and environmental management.  相似文献

The fertigated area of the Brazilian citrus industry has grown rapidly during recent years, and an efficient management of nitrogen (N) application at these sites is required for sustainable citrus production. Therefore, a field trial with Valencia orange trees [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck] on Swingle citrumelo rootstock (Citrus paradise Macfad. x Poncirus trifoliata L. Raf.) was conducted for 8 years to evaluate the effects of N rates (80, 160, 240 and 320 kg ha–1 y–1) applied by fertigation, either as ammonium nitrate (AN) or calcium nitrate (CN), on soil solution dynamics, fruit yield, nutritional status, and N‐use efficiency (NUE) of trees. The maximum fruit yield was reached with 240 kg N ha–1 for AN, whereas a linear response and greater fruit yield was observed for N supplied as CN. The NUE was reduced for both N forms with increasing N rates. However, the NUE for CN was 14 to 38% greater than the NUE for AN. The lower fruit yield and NUE for AN compared to CN‐treated trees was associated with the increased acidification of the soil solution with increased AN rates (pH ≤ 4.0). This limited nitrification resulted in a high ammonium (NH$ _4^+ $ ) concentration in the soil solution and a reduction in the net absorption of cations by the trees, particularly calcium (Ca). Due to the improved ion balance as well as the higher pH of the soil solution (pH ≥ 6.3) and diminished NH$ _4^+ $ availability, gains in both fruit yield and NUE in fertigated citrus groves in tropical soils can be obtained with the use of CN as a source of N.  相似文献

Purpose

Mining activities represent a current source of pollution due to the large release of trace elements from mineral particles into the soil, atmosphere, and ecosystems. In active or abandoned metal-mining areas, direct discharge from mining deposits is one of the most common processes of contamination.

Materials and methods

In this work, we calculated the elemental concentrations of plants, edible for cattle, which might contain high values of toxic elements, such as As, Cu, Zn, and W, originated from mining exploitation, especially wolframite. Several species of plants originating from the same contaminated place, close to the mine, were the subject of our study in order to compare the uptake of harmful elements, from the contaminated soils, in the different plants. We have used the energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence technique to perform the analysis and quantification of the elements present in the collected samples. The quantification was based on the fundamental parameters method for plants and on the WinAxil compare mode using a standard reference material, for soils. Calibration against a series of standard samples has been carried out.

Results and discussion

A comparison between contaminated and control samples, within the same species, was performed. The contamination of the two mining wash sites is assessed by comparing the elemental concentration of several plants in these places. Elemental content in soils was investigated, and a comparison between elemental levels in plants was performed.

Conclusions

High concentrations of tungsten were found near the new wash site. Arsenic was found throughout the area in concentrations many times higher than those recommended by the World Health Organization.  相似文献
