A bench scale, two-phase soil washing-biosorption process was developed for the remediation of p,p′-DDT-contaminated soil (containing 990 and 7750 mg kg-1 of p,p′-DDT). Removal of p,p′-DDT from contaminated soil was achieved by washing the soil with low molecular weight primary alcohols (ethanol or 1-propanol). An improved efficiency of p,p′-DDT removal was observed with increasing C-chain length of the cosolvent and by increasing the cosolvent volume fraction. When 40 or 80% 1-propanol were used, greater than 93% of p,p′-DDT was desorbed from the respective soils. p,p′-DDT was partitioned from the cosolvent solutions using biomass of Cladosporium sp. strain AJR318,501 as the sorptivematrix. When studies were conducted using a cosolvent-recycling regime (with 80% 1-propanol) greater than 95% of p,p′-DDT was removed from Soil A (990 mg kg-1 p,p′-DDT) and Soil B (7750 mg kg-1 p,p′-DDT) with the majority of the desorbed organochlorine repartitioning onto the fungal biomass. Less than 2.4 μg mL-1 p,p′-DDT was detected in the cosolvent wash solution of Soil A after 80 hr: potentially the cosolvent could be further reused to treat other soil. A higher concentration of p,p′-DDT was detected in the cosolvent wash solution of soil B after 120 hr (13.3 μg mL-1) indicating that the p,p′-DDT sorption sites on the fungal biomass were fully saturated.  相似文献

The surface-irrigation design process requires multiple analyses of surface irrigations to test tentative values of design parameters in the search for an optimum. Preparation of general design charts can aid the design process if the users' test cases fall within the scope of the charts. The large number of independent variables in surface irrigation preclude the generation of charts covering the practical range of all independent variables, when these are in dimensioned form. Dimensionless formulations allow significant reductions in the amount of data generated and presented, without loss of generality. Relationships pertinent to surface-irrigation analyses and design are reviewed in dimensionless terms. Dimensionless forms are developed primarily from an examination of the equations governing surface-irrigation phenomena. Additionally, dimensionless forms are derived from a study of the dimensions of the pertinent variables, without recourse to the governing equations. The Buckingham Pi Theorem is derived in the context of surface irrigation. Different choices for reference variables, leading to different meanings for the resulting dimensionless parameters, have advantages and disadvantages for analysis and design of surface irrigation systems. The different systems developed in the past for border irrigation are reviewed and their consequences noted; new systems with potential for future studies are suggested. Particular attention is devoted to those dimensionless representations useful in design.  相似文献

The application of zinc (Zn) fertilizer to lentil is an agronomic strategy that has the potential to improve yield and enhance grain Zn concentration. A pot study was conducted to determine if Zn fertilizer applied to three popular Saskatchewan lentil cultivars could increase yield and concentration of Zn in the grain. The effects of soil and foliar applied Zn forms, including ZnSO4, Zn chelated with EDTA, Zn lignosulphonate, and a control were evaluated. Forms of Zn were not found to significantly increase yield (P = 0.828) or grain Zn concentration (P = 0.708) in any of the lentil cultivars tested. Fertilization with soil applied ZnSO4 resulted in significantly (P < 0.0001) higher amounts of residual available Zn in the soil relative to other Zn treatments. Soil fertilized with ZnSO4 had 1.13 mg kg?1 diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA)-extractable Zn compared to 0.84 mg Zn kg?1 and 0.77 mg Zn kg?1 in the soil and foliar applied chelated Zn, respectively.  相似文献

An investigative study was conducted to determine the heavy metal pollution in the sediment in the Pra Basin of Ghana from 27 sampling points during the dry and wet seasons using the geo-accumulation index (Igeo), enrichment factor (EF), and pollution load index (PLI). Sediments were acid digested and analyzed for the following selected metals: arsenic (As), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), total chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and iron (Fe) using the dual atomizer and hydride generator atomic absorption spectrophotometer (model ASC-7000 No A309654, Shimadzu, Japan). The metal concentrations (mg kg?1) in the sediments were as follows: As (0.175)?<?Cd (3.206)?<?Ni (79.927)?<?Zn (118.323)?<?Cr (216.708)?<?Mn (234.742)?<?Pb (335.381)?<?Fe (1354.513) in the dry season and As (0.002)?<?Cd (7.279)?<?Ni (72.663)?<?Zn (35.622)?<?Pb (135.863)?<?Cr (167.604)?<?Mn (183.904)?<?Fe (1138.551) for the wet season. The EF which is an indication of whether metal concentrations are due to anthropogenic activities shows enrichment at all site for the metals Cr, Pb, and Cd in the wet seasons. However, only 4 out of the 27 sites showed Ni enrichment in the wet season. Contrary to the wet season, only Pb and Cr recorded enrichment at all sites during the dry season. Fifteen out of the 27 sites recorded Cd enrichment and 24 out of the 27 sites recorded Ni enriched during the dry season. None of the sites were enriched with Fe, As, Zn, and Mn in either the dry or wet seasons. For both dry and wet seasons, the pollution load index for all the sites except one was at the background levels which is a sign of non-deterioration of the sites studied. In the wet season, the calculated Igeo reveals that the study area is not contaminated with respect to As, Zn, Fe, and Mn; uncontaminated to moderately contaminated with Cd; moderately contaminated with Cr; uncontaminated to moderately to heavily contaminated with Ni; and moderately to heavily contaminated with Pb. The dry season Igeo results reveal non-contamination of the study area with respect to As, Fe, and Mn; uncontaminated to moderately contaminated with Zn; moderately contaminated with Cr; uncontaminated to heavily contaminated with Cd; uncontaminated to extremely contaminated with Ni; and moderately to extremely contaminated with Pb. The high levels of Cd, Pb, and Cr in all the sites are due to unregulated illegal mining activities occurring in and around the study area. It is hoped that this study will prompt the basin management board to improve their management strategies in controlling unregulated illegal mining in the basin sediments.  相似文献

Fertilization of grain legumes with zinc (Zn) can affect both marketable yield and Zn content of the grain, which is important in addressing human nutritional deficiencies in certain regions of the world. A pot experiment was conducted to determine the response of three different market classes of lentil to Zn fertilization using ten surface soils from Saskatchewan (Canada). The distribution of Zn among labile and stable fractions chemically separated from the soil was also determined in the ten prairie soils and related to the lentil responses observed. The three market classes of lentils (large and small green, small red) were grown without Zn (control), and with 2.5 and 5 kg Zn ha?1 added as zinc sulfate to each soil prior to planting. Zinc fertilizer application significantly influenced grain yield and was soil dependent. A significant increase in grain yield over the control was observed from application of Zn on some low organic matter, high pH Brown Chernozem soils whereas a decrease in grain yield over control was observed in other soils such as a Black Chernozem of high organic matter content and low (<7) pH. Lack of positive yield response to addition of Zn were related to measured high diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) extractable and plant root simulator (PRS) resin membrane probe Zn, and large amounts of native Zn in exchangeable and iron/manganese (Fe/Mn) oxide bound fractions. Application of Zn fertilizer generally increased the grain concentration of Zn. For example, an increase of ~20% in Zn concentration over control was observed when 5 kg Zn ha?1 was added to a loamy textured low organic matter Brown Chernozem soil. Overall, small green lentil was more consistent in producing a positive response to Zn fertilizer application on soils with low plant available Zn compared to large green lentil and small red lentil.  相似文献

Flavonoid profiles of 12 zoysiagrass (Zoysia spp.) cultivars sampled six times in 1998 were correlated to fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda J. E. Smith) larval weights and survival on replicated field-grown plant material and analyzed to determine genetic and seasonal variations of flavonoids among zoysiagrass cultivars. From multiple regression analyses and correlations, flavonoid peak 10 (luteolin-glucoside) had the greatest positive association with average fall armyworm weight; however, resistance appeared to be correlated with a number of other flavonoids. The flavonoid profiles of cultivars subjected to clustering procedures showed consistent genetic variability for five of six samplings and was used to genotype 23 cultivars. The dendrogram supported the results of the FASTCLUS procedure in clustering certain genotypes such as fall armyworm-resistant Cavalier and Zeon together, as well as J-36 and Meyer. Flavonoid evaluations measure genetic relatedness among cultivars and could be used for selective breeding of resistance to fall armyworm.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To compare two approaches to analysing energy- and nutrient-converted data from dietary validation (and relative validation) studies - conventional analyses, in which the accuracy of reported items is not ascertained, and reporting-error-sensitive analyses, in which reported items are classified as matches (items actually eaten) or intrusions (items not actually eaten), and reported amounts are classified as corresponding or overreported. DESIGN: Subjects were observed eating school breakfast and lunch, and interviewed that evening about that day's intake. For conventional analyses, reference and reported information were converted to energy and macronutrients; then t-tests, correlation coefficients and report rates (reported/reference) were calculated. For reporting error-sensitive analyses, reported items were classified as matches or intrusions, reported amounts were classified as corresponding or overreported, and correspondence rates (corresponding amount/reference amount) and inflation ratios (overreported amount/reference amount) were calculated. SUBJECTS: Sixty-nine fourth-grade children (35 girls) from 10 elementary schools in Georgia (USA). RESULTS: For energy and each macronutrient, conventional analyses found that reported amounts were significantly less than reference amounts (every P < 0.021; paired t-tests); correlations between reported and reference amounts exceeded 0.52 (every P < 0.001); and median report rates ranged from 76% to 95%. Analyses sensitive to reporting errors found median correspondence rates between 67% and 79%, and that median inflation ratios, which ranged from 7% to 17%, differed significantly from 0 (every P < 0.0001; sign tests). CONCLUSIONS: Conventional analyses of energy and nutrient data from dietary reporting validation (and relative validation) studies may overestimate accuracy and mask the complexity of dietary reporting error.  相似文献

Assembled results from 20 European long-term experiments (LTE), mainly from the first decade of the twenty-first century, are presented. The included LTEs from 17 sites are the responsibility of institutional members of the International Working Group of Long-term Experiments in the IUSS. Between the sites, average annual temperatures differ between 8.1 and 15.3°C, annual precipitation between 450 and 1400 mm, and soil clay contents between 3 and 31%. On average of 350 yield comparisons, combined mineral and organic fertilization resulted in a 6% yield benefit compared with mineral fertilization alone; in the case of winter wheat, the smallest effect was 3%, the largest effect, seen with potatoes, was 9%. All unfertilized treatments are depleted in soil organic carbon (SOC), varying between 0.36 and 2.06% SOC. The differences in SOC in unfertilized plots compared with the respective plots with combined mineral (NPK) and organic (10 t ha?1 farmyard manure) fertilization range between 0.11 and 0.72%, with an average of 0.3% (corresponding to ~15 t ha?1). Consequently, the use of arable soils for carbon sequestration is limited and of low relevance and merely depleted soils can temporarily accumulate carbon up to their optimum C content.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung

Die Quantifizierung des Einflusses von Klimaänderungen auf den Humusgehalt des Bodens ist von großer wirtschaftlicher und wissenschaftlicher Bedeutung. Eine Möglichkeit dieser Quantifizierung besteht in der Auswertung von Dauerfeldversuchen mit der kontinuierlichen Bestimmung des Kohlenstoff- und Stickstoffgehaltes von Böden über einen Zeitraum von mehreren Jahrzehnten unter Wahrung des Ceteris-Paribus-Prinzips. Für die vorliegende Arbeit wurden die Ergebnisse von insgesamt 15 Dauerfeldversuchen an zehn verschiedenen Standorten mit rund 150 unterschiedlichen Düngungsvarianten ausgewertet. Die Versuchsdauer lag mit einer Ausnahme zwischen 40 und 110 Jahren. Die Corg-Daten konnten nahezu lückenlos über einen Zeitraum von jeweils 20 Jahren einbezogen werden. Die Nt-Gehalte wurden in sechs Versuchen berücksichtigt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass bei allen Prüfgliedern mit kombinierter organisch-mineralischer Düngung in der Größenordnung, wie sie der “guten fachlichen Praxis“ oder auch der Humusbilanzmethode entspricht, keine Verringerung der Corg-Gehalte eingetreten ist. In einigen Fällen waren signifikante Erhöhungen zu verzeichnen. In 11 von 15 Versuchen war auch ohne Düngung oder mit ausschließlicher Mineraldüngung keine Reduzierung und somit keine klimabedingte Verringerung der Humusgehalte im Untersuchungszeitraum nachweisbar. Stattdessen wurde in einigen Fällen eine signifikante Erhöhung gefunden. Auch bei den Nt-Gehalten war in keinem Fall eine signifikante Verringerung festzustellen. Umfangreiche Großzahlanalysen und Dauerfeldversuchsauswertungen anderer Autoren bestätigen uneingeschränkt die Ergebnisse.  相似文献

A study was carried out to investigate the effects of different diets for heifers, low- and high-yielding cows on the microbial composition of their faeces and subsequently the impacts of these faeces on CO2 and N2O emissions, N mineralisation and plant N uptake. A diet low in N and high in acid detergent fibre offered to heifers resulted in faeces dominated by fungi. These faeces were characterised by a low content in microbial biomass C and N and a high ergosterol concentration in comparison to the faeces of high-yielding cows. Added to soil, faeces of heifers led to lower emission and stronger N immobilisation during a 14-day incubation in comparison to the faeces of high-yielding cows. Total N2O emission was significantly (P?<?0.05) correlated with faecal microbial biomass N. Rye grass yield and N uptake were lowest in the soil supplemented with faeces from heifers in a 62-day pot experiment. Plant N uptake was influenced by the faecal microbial biomass C/N ratio and the fungal C to bacterial C ratio. In conclusion, the faecal microbial biomass was affected to a high degree by the feeding regime and faecal microbial characteristics revealed higher impacts on plant N uptake than soil microbial properties.  相似文献
