Chlamydiae are the major cause of preventable blindness and sexually transmitted disease. Genome analysis of a chlamydia-related symbiont of free-living amoebae revealed that it is twice as large as any of the pathogenic chlamydiae and had few signs of recent lateral gene acquisition. We showed that about 700 million years ago the last common ancestor of pathogenic and symbiotic chlamydiae was already adapted to intracellular survival in early eukaryotes and contained many virulence factors found in modern pathogenic chlamydiae, including a type III secretion system. Ancient chlamydiae appear to be the originators of mechanisms for the exploitation of eukaryotic cells.  相似文献

Stronger constraints on the anthropogenic indirect aerosol effect   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
The anthropogenic indirect aerosol effects of modifying cloud albedo and cloud lifetime cannot be deduced from observations alone but require a modeling component. Here we validate a climate model, with and without indirect aerosol effects, by using satellite observations. The model agrees better with observations when both indirect aerosol effects are included. However, the simulated clouds are more susceptible to aerosols than the observed clouds from the POLDER satellite, thus overestimating the indirect aerosol effect. By taking the difference in susceptibilities into account, the global mean total anthropogenic aerosol effect is reduced from -1.4 to -0.85 watts per square meter.  相似文献

A new 12-membered macrolide, balticolid (1) was isolated from the EtOAc extract of the culture broth of fungal strain 222 belonging to the Ascomycota, which was found on driftwood collected from the coast of the Greifswalder Bodden, Baltic Sea, Germany. The structure of balticolid was determined to be (3R,11R), (4E,8E)-3-hydroxy-11-methyloxacyclododeca-4,8-diene-1,7-dione using extensive spectral data as well as the modified Mosher ester method. Balticolid (1) displayed anti-HSV-1 activity with an IC50 value of 0.45 μM.  相似文献

In the search for bioactive compounds, 11 fungal strains were isolated from Indonesian marine habitats. Ethyl acetate extracts of their culture broth were tested for cytotoxic activity against a urinary bladder carcinoma cell line and for antifungal and antibacterial activities against fish and human pathogenic bacteria as well as against plant and human pathogenic fungi. The crude extract of a sterile algicolous fungus (KT31), isolated from the red seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii (Doty) Doty ex P.C. Silva exhibited potent cytotoxic activity with an IC50 value of 1.5 μg/mL. Another fungal strain (KT29) displayed fungicidal properties against the plant pathogenic fungus Cladosporium cucumerinum Ell. et Arth. at 50 μg/spot. 2-Carboxy-8-methoxy-naphthalene-1-ol (1) could be isolated as a new natural product.  相似文献

In recent studies, the potential of hyperspectral sensors for the analysis of plant–pathogen interactions was expanded to the ultraviolet range (UV; 200–380 nm) to monitor stress processes in plants. A hyperspectral imaging set-up was established to highlight the influence of early plant–pathogen interactions on secondary plant metabolites. In this study, the plant–pathogen interactions of three different barley lines inoculated with Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei (Bgh, powdery mildew) were investigated. One susceptible genotype (cv. Ingrid, wild type) and two resistant genotypes (Pallas 01, Mla1- and Mla12-based resistance and Pallas 22, mlo5-based resistance) were used. During the first 5 days after inoculation (dai) the plant reflectance patterns were recorded and plant metabolites relevant in host–pathogen interactions were studied in parallel. Hyperspectral measurements in the UV range revealed that a differentiation between barley genotypes inoculated with Bgh is possible, and distinct reflectance patterns were recorded for each genotype. The extracted and analysed pigments and flavonoids correlated with the spectral data recorded. A classification of noninoculated and inoculated samples with deep learning revealed that a high performance can be achieved with self-attention networks. The subsequent feature importance identified wavelengths as the most important for the classification, and these were linked to pigments and flavonoids. Hyperspectral imaging in the UV range allows the characterization of different resistance reactions, can be linked to changes in secondary plant metabolites, and has the advantage of being a non-invasive method. It therefore enables a greater understanding of plant reactions to biotic stress, as well as resistance reactions.  相似文献

Type 1 polysaccharide storage myopathy caused by genetic mutation in the glycogen synthase 1 gene is present in many breeds including the Noriker and Haflinger horses. In humans, EMG has already been used to document changes in the muscle activity patterns of patients affected by human glycogen storage disorders. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to describe gluteus muscle activity with surface electromyography (sEMG) in Haflinger and Noriker horses with known GYS1 mutation status during walk and trot. Thirty-two horses (11 Haflinger and 21 Noriker horses) with homozygous non-affected (GG), heterozygous affected (GA) and homozygous affected (AA) status of GYS1 mutation without overt clinical signs of any myopathy were selected for the current study. Using surface electromyography gluteus medius muscle activity at walk and at trot was measured, and muscle activity was described in relation to the maximum observed value at the same sensor and the same gait. In order to further describe the signals in detail comprising both frequencies and amplitudes, the crossings through the baseline and the 25, 50 and 75 percentile lines were determined. The result of the relative muscle activity did not show a consistent difference between affected and non-affected horses. Genetically affected (GA and AA) horses showed significantly less density of muscle activity for both gaits and horse breeds except for the crossings per second at the baseline and 75 percentile at walk in the Haflinger horses and 75 percentile at trot in the Noriker horses. The medians of all calculated density values were significantly lower in the GA Haflingers compared to the GG Haflingers (p = 0.012) and also in the AA Norikers compared to the GG Norikers (p = 0.011). Results indicate that the GYS1 mutation reduces the number of functional muscle fibres detected by sEMG measurements even in the absence of overt clinical signs.  相似文献

High nitrogen (N) input to rivers requires measures for the reduction of diffuse N pollution. Beside the groundwater, artificial subsurface drainage systems are the main pathways of diffuse N input into rivers. Nevertheless, the N discharge via subsurface drainage systems is one of the main missing links for modeling, especially because of the lack of data bases of subsurface drainage areas. We introduce a method to calculate the normally unknown proportions of drained areas in arable lands improving the existing method by Behrendt et al. (2000). The method is applied for the catchment of Middle Mulde river (area: 2,700 km2) in Saxony/Germany. The data records of the mesoscale soil mapping are allocated to the subsurface‐drainage areas digitalized in representative areas using ARC/INFO GIS. In this way, it is possible to establish a differentiated record of the proportion of subsurface‐drainage area of each regional site type. The results were extrapolated to the entire area by transferring the proportions of subsurface‐drainage areas to areas where no information on drainage areas was available. The approach is well‐suited for future model approaches on a regional scale. By creating and integrating new data sets derived from modern GIS operations, the approach reduces the uncertainty of modeling N and water fluxes.  相似文献

Today, a large share of mineral fertilizer is substituted by biogas digestates. Biogas digestates are known to promote N2O production, compared to mineral fertilizer. In particular, the initial phase following fertilizer application is crucial for the N gas release as N2O and also N2. However, this period impact has been rarely investigated, especially not across various field sites. Thus, undisturbed soil cores from two fertilizer types (biogas digestate vs. mineral fertilizer) at five sites with different site characteristics were investigated in a short‐term laboratory experiment under N2‐free helium–oxygen incubation atmosphere. Across sites, biogas digestate soil cores showed significantly higher absolute N2O fluxes compared to mineral fertilizer soil cores, even though this effect was dominated by samples from one site (Dornburg with the highest biogas digestate fertilization rate). Also relative N2O fluxes showed a similar tendency. On average, absolute and relative N2 fluxes differed between the two fertilizer types, while N2 fluxes were highest at the Dornburg site. A N2O/(N2O+N2) ratio of denitrification below or equal to 0.5 clearly highlighted the importance of N2O reduction to N2 for three of five the biogas digestate soil cores. Soil characteristics like bulk density and water‐filled pore space as proxies for gas diffusivity in soil, as well as N availability ( NO 3 - , NH 4 + ), significantly affected the N2O and N2 fluxes from the biogas digestate soil cores. While this study presents data on short‐term N2O and N2 fluxes, there is a need for further studies in order to investigate the dynamics, the duration of the observed effects and their significance at the field scale.  相似文献
