Eleven different wheat flours of varying protein content were treated with gaseous acetic acid. Each wheat flour exhibited maximum breadmaking properties (bread height and specific volume) at different levels of gaseous acetic acid treatment. There was a relationship (r = +0.7384) between the level of gaseous acetic acid treatment required for maximum breadmaking properties and the protein content of the wheat flour. Wheat flours with higher protein contents were more resistant to the decrease in pH value due to acetic acid treatment. 相似文献

We investigated the effect of feeding habits on the fatness (length–weight relationship (LW)) and otolith growth of age‐0 Pacific bluefin tuna (PBF) (fork length (FL) of 15.0–29.9 cm) collected off the southwestern Pacific coast of Japan from July to August during 2010–2015. The feeding rate on Clupeiformes (FRc) was substantially influenced by the path of the Kuroshio Current during early summer. We suggest that the following patterns occurred in the feeding habits of PBF. In 2012 and 2014, the short distance from the coast to the Kuroshio provided high overlap between PBF and Clupeiformes and increased the opportunity for feeding, and this pattern likely caused the observed diet shift from Crustacea to Clupeiformes by smaller PBF in the studied years than those in other years. In 2011 and 2015, the encounter probability for Clupeiformes might have been low due to the long distance to the Kuroshio Current, which led PBF to actively consume non‐Clupeiformes Teleostei. In contrast, in August 2010 and 2015, PBF did not encounter Clupeiformes or other Teleostei and may have been forced to feed on a large number of Crustacea; this effect was likely due to high water temperatures. Despite the interannual fluctuation in the timing of the diet shift and the feeding intensity (FI), these factors did not contribute to growth in length; rather, they contributed to fatness. Considering size‐dependent mortality in the larval stage, these results suggest that only fast‐growing individuals survive, even if the feeding conditions drastically change. 相似文献

The relative contribution of particulate organic matters (POMs) in water column and sediment as a food source for the Manila
clam, Ruditapes philippinarum, was studied using carbon and nitrogen stable isotopic method (δ13C and δ15N) in a tidal flat at Seaside Park, Yokohama, Japan. Comparisons of δ13C and δ15N among R. philippinarum and POMs in surface water, bottom water, and sediment surface indicated that R. philippinarum larger than 5 mm shell length (SL) mainly assimilated benthic POM, and individuals smaller than 5 mm SL assimilated benthic

Bacterial haemolytic jaundice caused by Ichthyobacterium seriolicida has been responsible for mortality in farmed yellowtail, Seriola quinqueradiata, in western Japan since the 1980s. In this study, polymorphic analysis of I. seriolicida was performed using three molecular methods: amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analysis, multilocus sequence typing (MLST) and multiple‐locus variable‐number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA). Twenty‐eight isolates were analysed using AFLP, while 31 isolates were examined by MLST and MLVA. No polymorphisms were identified by AFLP analysis using EcoRI and MseI, or by MLST of internal fragments of eight housekeeping genes. However, MLVA revealed variation in repeat numbers of three elements, allowing separation of the isolates into 16 sequence types. The unweighted pair group method using arithmetic averages cluster analysis of the MLVA data identified four major clusters, and all isolates belonged to clonal complexes. It is likely that I. seriolicida populations share a common ancestor, which may be a recently introduced strain. 相似文献

Atrophy of seminiferous tubules and interstitial fibrosis are frequently observed in aged horses. Samples from 8 male Thoroughbreds, age 4-24 years, were subjected to histological, electron microscopical and immunohistochemical examination and statistical analysis. There were statistically significant increases in collagen fibres in the lamina propria of seminiferous tubules and testicular interstitium in 3 horses age 23 and 24 years compared with 5 horses age 4-20 years (P<0.001). Lamina propria surrounding atrophic tubules was thickened by an increase in collagen type IV and elastic fibres and by proliferation of bizarre myoid cells. Basal lamina was also thickened but had decreased reactivity for collagen type IV. Some myoid cells changed morphologically to a swollen and irregular shape and contained abundant cytoplasmic organelles. Laser scanning microscopy revealed that cytoplasmic actin filaments were decreased; the remaining filaments were positive for alpha-smooth muscle actin and vimentin, and matrix metalloproteinase-2 was secreted. These myoid cells transformed into myofibroblasts. The changes are interpreted as evidence of injured structure and function of the lamina propria and basal lamina and may explain the functional decline of the blood-testis barrier. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of transcatheter closure in dogs with a congenital perimembranous ventricular septal defect (VSD) by using a detachable coil. No dogs showed any symptoms, and results of chest X-rays and ECGs were normal. The diameters of VSD ranged from 2 to 4 mm on echocardiogram. The defect was 2-2.5 mm from the aortic valve. A detachable coil (size 5 mm with 5 loops) designed for patent ductus arteriosus was delivered via the transarterial route. The device was successfully employed in all dogs. A minimal residual shunt was observed in all dogs even though Qp/Qs decreased. Hemolysis and a rate-dependent right-bundle branch block were observed in 1 dog, but there was no clinical significance. No major complication was noted. Pathologic examination after 1 year revealed that the coils were covered with tissue without significant damage to the His-Purkinje conduction system. In conclusion, transcatheter closure of a small perimembranous VSD with a detachable coil can be achieved without major complications or significant pathologic damage at the lesion site. 相似文献

Comparison of the QT interval and corrected QT interval values that were calculated by the methods of Bazett (QTc1) and Fridericia (QTc2) were made between dogs with or without cardiac diseases to determine the influence of the QT interval on canine heart failure. Upon comparison of the measured values on ECG between the cardiac disease and non-cardiac disease groups, it was observed that the heart rate(HR) was significantly higher in the cardiac disease group than in the non-cardiac disease group, although the QT interval was similar in the two groups. The QTc1 and QTc2 were significantly longer in the cardiac disease group than in the non-cardiac disease group. With the progression of the New York Heart Association Class, the HR tended to increase. The QTc1 and QTc2 became significantly prolonged with the progression of heart failure. Nevertheless, because Bazett's correction formula is known to overcorrect when the HR is high, it was considered that the QTc1 was actually overcorrected by high HR with the progression of heart failure. The QTc2, on the other hand, was only slightly influenced by HR, suggesting that the prolongation was due to the progression of heart failure. These results suggest that the prolongation of QTc2 in cardiac disease reflects the substantial prolongation of the QT interval without the influence of HR. It is suggested that the QTc2 could be a useful parameter for assessing the degree of heart failure in dogs with cardiac disease. 相似文献
