Carrot fly (Psila rosae) control in Switzerland appears not to have been a major problem during the years 1985–2000. However, reports on crop losses due to increased damage, and yield lots not complying with raised quality standards, have become more frequent in recent years. Carrot fly control has clearly become more difficult because the fly’s population dynamics have changed (3 generations instead of 2) and due to changes in the cropping system. Furthermore, some insecticides with high efficacy, such as soil insecticides, are no longer available. Seed treatments with various insecticides were tested as potential alternatives to no longer approved soil insecticides, but these were not efficient enough when infestation pressure was high. Spraying, mainly with pyrethroids against the flies landing on carrot leaves, proved to be successful in some plots if the flight of adult flies was monitored with sticky traps and the timing of the insecticide treatments was adequate. However, in other cases treatment efficacy was low, presumably due to less precise timing of the applications. In conclusion, current experience on supervised chemical control indicates that strategies can be adapted, but Swiss agricultural research stations are not yet able to provide the growers with validated recommendations. 相似文献

Wind-induced motion of 29 neighbouring trees growing in a Scots pine plantation was measured over the period 14 March to 24
March 2008. The bi-orthogonal decomposition (BOD) of the complex tree motion field into a limited number of spatio-temporal
modes provided the basis for the analysis of the response behaviour to wind excitation of the group of sample trees. It is
shown that the first BOD-mode was the most energetic and differed from all other BOD-modes. The BOD-results as well as the
results from wavelet analysis of the temporal eigenvectors of the BOD-modes demonstrate that two concomitant low-frequency
components in the streamwise wind velocity component stimulated coherent response of the sample trees at the tree group level.
However, in the range of the wind speed measured close to the top of the Scots pine forest canopy (hourly mean wind speed
values lower than 6 m s−1), the wind loads associated with these low-frequency airflow structures were too low to harmonise the motion of the sample
trees completely. It is shown that instantaneous single tree responses to wind excitation were highly irregular in magnitude
and direction. Results from Fourier and wavelet analysis demonstrate that sway in the first mode dominated the wind-induced

Despite their diversity, vertebrate retinae are specialized to maximize either photon catch or visual acuity. Here, we describe a functional type that is optimized for neither purpose. In the retina of the elephantnose fish (Gnathonemus petersii), cone photoreceptors are grouped together within reflecting, photonic crystal-lined cups acting as macroreceptors, but rod photoreceptors are positioned behind these reflectors. This unusual arrangement matches rod and cone sensitivity for detecting color-mixed stimuli, whereas the photoreceptor grouping renders the fish insensitive to spatial noise; together, this enables more reliable flight reactions in the fish's dim and turbid habitat as compared with fish lacking this retinal specialization. 相似文献

Viruses are increasingly important as etiological agents of gastrointestinal infections. Because of improved diagnostic methods, in particular, because of molecular biological techniques, viruses can be detected much more frequently as pathogens of foodborne diseases. Apart from the hepatitis A virus (HAV) the Norovirus (NLV) is becoming more significant. On an international level methods are developed to detect the amount of viruses which minimise PCR inhibitors and which are applicable in routine diagnostic. There are numerous routines available in the field of virus diagnostic in shellfish and oysters which are, however, not yet standardised and applicable in the whole of Europe. This review highlights viral agents their characteristics as well as food contaminated with viruses.
