The aim of the study was to examine effects of postharvest sprays of nitrogen (N), boron (B), and zinc (Zn) on reproductive response of sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) trees, fruit quality and plant nutrition. The experiment was conducted during 2007–2009 in central Poland on mature ‘Burlat’ sweet cherry trees/F12, grown on a coarse-textured soil with low level of organic matter, and optimal soil reaction. Soil status of phosphorus (P), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), Zn and copper (Cu) was optimal, whereas B – low. Sweet cherry trees were sprayed with boric acid-B, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA)-Zn, and urea-N at 30–40 d prior to initiation of leaf fall according to following schema: i) spray of N at a rate of 23 kg ha?1; ii) spray of B and Zn at a dose of 1.1 kg ha?1 and 0.5 kg ha?1, respectively; and iii) spray of N, B and Zn at the same rates as in the above spray combinations. The trees sprayed with water served as the control. The results showed that fall spray treatments had no influence on cold damage of flower buds, plant N status and soluble solids concentration in fruit. Postharvest spray of N and combined spray of N, B and Zn injured leaves in the fall but did not cause defoliation. Sprays of B and Zn with or without N increased status of Zn and B in fall leaves, and B in flowers and midsummer leaves. Those sprays also improved fruit set and yield. In one out of two years of the study, fall sprays of N with or without B and Zn decreased mean fruit weight. The above results indicate that only leaf-applied B in the fall improved reproductive response of sweet cherry trees. It is concluded that under conditions of B shortage in a soil and/or plant tissues, postharvest B sprays can be recommended in sweet cherry orchards to improve reproductive growth of the trees.  相似文献

The aim of the current research was to check the changes in properties of rye dough and bread after the addition of different arabinoxylan preparations. Runs of homozygosity (ROH) are continuous segments of the genome that arose as a result of inbreeding, resulting in the inheritance of identical haplotypes from both parents who shared a common ancestor. In the present study, we performed a detailed characterization and comparison of ROH in four pig breeds, including intensively selected Polish Landrace as well as native unselected animals of Puławska and two Złotnicka breeds (White and Spotted). We used a medium-density PorcineSNP60 BeadChip assay (Illumina) and cgaTOH software to detect ROH covering a minimum of 30 adjacent SNPs and maintaining a size over 1 Mb. By analysing ROH distribution and frequency across the genome, we also identified genomic regions with high ROH frequency (so-called “ROH hotspots”). The obtained results showed that the analysed conserved breeds were characterized by a higher ROH span and higher ROH-based inbreeding coefficients (FROH), which likely result from past population bottlenecks, increasing the overall inbreeding level within these populations. The analysis of ROH distribution across the genomes revealed the presence of both shared and breed-specific ROH hotspots. These hotspots, presumably representing genome regions under selection, overlapped with a variety of genes associated with processes connected with immune system functioning, reproduction, glucose homeostasis and metabolism. The genome regions with ROH hotspots overlapping in all analysed populations, located on SSC4 (51.9–55.9 Mb) and 13 (92.6–97.8 Mb), covered thirty-one different genes, including MMP16, SLC7A13, ATP6V0D2, CNGB3, WWiP1, RiMDN1 and CPNE3. These genes are primarily associated with biological regulation and metabolism, processes that could be responsible for the variety of the selected production and functional features.  相似文献

Unprocessed pomace containing 61% of dietary fiber (DF) and 0.23% of polyphenols (PP) and ethanol- or ethanol/acetone-extracted pomaces containing 66% DF and 0.10% PP and 67% DF and 0.01% PP, respectively, were subjected to a 4 week study in rats. The aim of the study was assessing the advantages of dietary supplementation with the above pomaces. To measure the animal response to dietary treatments, parameters describing cecal fermentation and lipoprotein profile were assessed. The dietary use of 5% unprocessed pomace caused an increase in cecal short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production and a decrease in blood triacylglycerols, leading to a drop in serum atherogenic index. Ethanol-extracted pomace increased the glycolytic activity of cecal microbiota and decreased cecal branched-chain fatty acid production, whereas acetone extraction led to lower cecal ammonia concentration, decreased colonic pH value, and higher HDL/total cholesterol ratio. The variations in the atherogenic index indicate flavonoids as the key pomace component in relation to blood lipid profile benefits.  相似文献

Concentrations of oestrogens in the blood plasma and seminal plasma of mature boars are high. However, little is known about their concentrations after reaching sexual maturity. The aim of this study was to determine the concentration of oestrogens in blood plasma and seminal plasma of boars during the postpuberal period. Free and conjugated oestrone and oestradiol-17beta were determined by radioimmunoassay in blood from the testicular vein and artery, and peripheral circulation as well as in seminal plasma collected from 18 Polish Landrace boars. The animals were divided into three groups (n = 6) according to age (8, 12 and 16 months, respectively). Oestrone was predominant free and conjugated oestrogen. The highest values of oestrogens were measured in the testicular vein (p < or = 0.05). The concentrations of oestrogens in seminal plasma did not differ from those found in the peripheral circulation. An age-dependent increase in levels of all four oestrogens (p < or = 0.05) was observed. This can be associated with biochemical maturation of the reproductive system during the postpuberal period.  相似文献

In cattle, the prevention of diseases might be possible using dietary methods, with nutritional optimization of feed rations. For years significant influence has been associated with the addition of biotin, methionine and zinc (each given individually, or as chelate - Zn-methionine). The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of biotin or biotin + Zn-methionine additives on the health and performance of cows, in the first and second trimester of lactation. This study was carried out in 3 groups of cows, 30 animals in each group. In the first group cows were fed the usual fodder used on the farm. In the second group biotin at 10 mg/day/cow was added. In the third group both biotin at 10 mg/day/cow and Zn-methionine at 5 g/day/cow were added. The administration of biotin increased the milk yield and reduced the occurrence of retained placenta, as well as endometritis puerperalis. However, the high doses of biotin suppressed ovulation and oestrus symptoms in the investigated cows (low progesterone levels on days 15, 21 and 45 after calving). Zn-methionine in comparison to biotin had a lower effect on the milk yield in the cows. Moreover, its supplementation improved the milk content, as well as some of the blood parameters; it also decreased the number of somatic cells in milk. The concurrent administration of biotin and zinc-methionine seemed to be a good method for the prophylaxis of subacute mastitis and for the improvement of the high yielding dairy cows' productivity.  相似文献

Human or animal hair is considered to be a good indicator of the content of bioelements or toxic elements in human and animal organism. Its analysis is a good alternative for the arduous obtaining blood or biopsy samples. The aim of the performed research was the assessment of some chosen bioelements in the organism of European bison on the basis of their analysis in hair. The investigation material comprised hair samples obtained from 22 animals. All animals were divided into groups according to gender (males, females) and age (calves up to one year of age and animals older than 2 years). Samples were mineralized in nitric acid, under pressure in the microwave apparatus. The content of phosphorus, sulphur, magnesium, iron, titanium and vanadium were determined in hair samples. The content of these elements was determined using the ICP-AES method in accredited laboratory. The accuracy of determinations was tested using the standard reference material. The mean content of phosphorus in hair amounted to 245.14 mg x kg(-1), SD 65.00, magnesium 97.32 mg x kg(-1), SD 33.16, iron 119.48 mg x kg(-1), SD 83.31 and titanium 2.368 mg x kg(-1), SD 2.097. In case of these elements, differences depending on gender and age were statistically insignificant. Mean content of sulphur in the European bison hair amounted to 3.41% with equalized content in the herd (SD 0.22%). Here also statistically insignificant differences depending on gender were observed. However, a statistically significant difference (p < or = 0,05) was demonstrated which depended on animal age. Mature European bisons had more sulphur in hair as compared to calves. The concentration of vanadium (0.362 mg x kg(-1), SD 0.396 on the average) significantly differed in hair depending on the European bison age with much higher values in adult animals (calves 0.260 mg x kg(-1), animals older than 2 years 0.686 mg x kg(-1)). Similar data were obtained while investigating hair of sea mammals.  相似文献
