The treatability of Scots pine sapwood sampled from 25 locations in northern Europe, which was impregnated with an experimental furfuryl alcohol mix, was studied. A large variation in treatability was found between stands. The treatability was affected by anatomical properties of the trees and therefore also by the immediate climate, the sociological position of the tree in the stand, growth increments and on-stand competition. With the models applied, most parts of the differences in treatability between stands could be explained, while the treatability variation between trees within a stand remained mostly unexplained. Wider annual rings and higher latewood contents were found to increase the treatability. Models that included data on growth conditions and climate explain more of the variation in treatability, indicating that also other anatomical properties are influencing the treatability. Tree attributes and growth conditions that reduce annual ring width and latewood content decreased the treatability. Trees growing under warmer conditions and developing larger growth increments were easier to impregnate. Wood from trees growing near the timberline and under environmental conditions impairing wood growth was more difficult to treat. 相似文献

Willows (Salix spp.) were supposed to be suitable candidates for the phytoremediation of polluted floodplain soils, but it is unknown how willow growth alters concentrations and mobility of pollutants under the conditions of ongoing periodically flooding. Therefore, effects of willow cropping on total concentrations and mobility of As and heavy metals and soil microbial properties were determined after three and four growing seasons under willows in comparison to native grassland in a flood channel of a River Elbe floodplain (Central Germany). After 4 y of willow coppice, the heavy metal concentrations (mg kg–1) were increased not only in the grass control plots (final Cu 274, Pb 276, Zn 935) but also under the willows (final Cu 248, Pb 251, Zn 779) compared to the initial concentrations (initial Cu 170, Pb 156, Zn 579). This increase might likely be caused by the ongoing sedimentation by flood events. The smaller increase under willows compared to grass might be related to an initial net effect of phytoextraction. The concentrations of the mobile fractions of Cd, Cu, Ni, and Zn were significantly lower under willows than under grass. Higher β‐glucosidase activities under willows than under grass might indicate a starting net decomposition of organic matter. Therefore, the study of long‐term and large‐scale effects are recommend before an appropriate evaluation of willow short‐rotation coppice for phytoremediation of polluted floodplains will be established. 相似文献

The control of adverse effects and the possibility of removing suspended solids from recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) are the principal challenges facing aquaculture engineers. However, their dynamics and transformations are not yet well known. In this study, carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes values (δ13C and δ15N) were used as tracers of particulate matter in a seabass RAS. An isotopic mixing model was employed to estimate the contributions of particulate sources. Feed (−22.1‰ for δ13C and 11.9‰ for δ15N), feces (−24.0‰ for δ13C and 6.4‰ for δ15N) and biofilm (−25.1‰ for δ13C and 12.9‰ for δ15N) were identified as main sources of particulate matter. The particle traps collected a mixing of 29% of uneaten feed and 71% of feces, when drum filter eliminated all remaining uneaten feed, shifting the isotopic signatures of suspended solids from −23.8 and 7.9‰ to −24.9 and 8.3‰ for δ13C and δ15N, respectively. The fish muscle (−18.6‰ for δ13C and 15.4‰ for δ15N) could reflect the isotopic variability of feed ingredients accumulated over time. Severe constriction of the abdominal aorta and simultaneous injection of isoproterenol in rats induced depression in heart function and reductions in cardiac adenosine triphosphate and total adenine nucleotides. When ribose was continuously infused for 24 hours, biosynthesis of cardiac adenine nucleotides was stimulated to such an extent that the reductions in adenosine triphosphate and total adenine nucleotides were prevented and left ventricular hemodynamic parameters were normal. These results support the hypothesis that adenosine triphosphate is primarily responsible for depression in myocardial contractility and that ribose is cardioprotective through its pronounced effects on adenine nucleotide metabolism in heart muscle. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Pollen beetle, Meligethes aeneus F. (Coleoptera: Nitidulidae), is a major pest in European winter oilseed rape. Recently, control failures with pyrethroid insecticides commonly used to control this pest have been reported in many European countries. For resistance management purposes, the neonicotinoid insecticide thiacloprid was widely introduced as a new mode of action for pollen beetle control. RESULTS: A number of pollen beetle populations collected in Germany, France, Austria, Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Poland, Czech Republic and Ukraine were tested for pyrethroid resistance using lambda‐cyhalothrin‐coated glass vials (adult vial test). Most of the populations tested exhibited substantial levels of resistance to lambda‐cyhalothrin, and resistance ratios ranged from < 10 to > 2000. A similar resistance monitoring bioassay for the neonicotinoid insecticide thiacloprid was developed and validated by assessing baseline susceptibility data for 88 European pollen beetle populations. A variation of less than fivefold in response to thiacloprid was detected. The thiacloprid adult vial bioassay is based on glass vials coated with an oil‐dispersion‐based formulation of thiacloprid, resulting in a much better bioavailability compared with technical material. Analytical measurements revealed a > 56 and 28 day stability of thiacloprid and lambda‐cyhalothrin in coated glass vials at room temperature, respectively. No cross‐resistance between thiacloprid and lambda‐cyhalothrin based on log‐dose probit–mortality data was detected. CONCLUSION: Pyrethroid resistance in many European populations of M. aeneus was confirmed, whereas all populations are susceptible to thiacloprid when tested in a newly designed and validated monitoring bioassay based on glass vials coated with oil‐dispersion‐formulated thiacloprid. Based on the homogeneous results, it is concluded that thiacloprid could be an important chemical tool for pollen beetle resistance management strategies in European winter oilseed rape. Pollen beetle, Meligethes aeneus (Coleoptera: Nitidulidae) is a major pest on several million hectares in European winter oilseed rape cultivation. Synthetic pyrethroids have been successfully used for many years to keep them under economic damage thresholds. Recently wide-spread resistance development to pyrethroids in pollen beetle populations was described in many European countries, including Germany, France, Poland, Denmark and others. Resistance monitoring is conducted by incubating beetles for 24 h in glass vials coated with different concentrations of lambda-cyhalothrin. Using such an assay format we were able to show cross-resistance to other pyrethroids, such as deltamethrin, cypermethrin, and to a somewhat lower extent bifenthrin, etofenprox and tau-fluvalinate. Here we also investigated in more detail in 27 different populations the biochemical mechanism of pyrethroid resistance. Synergism experiments revealed a high synergistic potential for piperonyl butoxide in vivo, whereas other compounds such as S,S,S-tributylphosphorotrithioate and diethylmaleimide failed to suppress pyrethroid resistance. Incubating microsomal fractions of pollen beetle with deltamethrin and subsequent LC–MS/MS analysis revealed 4-OH-deltamethrin as the major metabolite. Metabolite formation in vitro and pyrethroid resistance in vivo is correlated and inhibition trials with piperonyl butoxide, tebuconazole and aminobenzotriazole suggest the involvement of cytochrome P450′s. Furthermore we were able to show cross-resistance to tau-fluvalinate which is supported by the competitive inhibition of 4-OH-deltamethrin formation by increasing concentrations of tau-fluvalinate in microsomal hydroxylation assays. N-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs), and especially eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), are essential compounds for human health. They have been proven to act positively on a panel of diseases and have interesting anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory or anti-cancer properties. For these reasons, they are receiving more and more attention in recent years, especially future food or feed development. EPA and DHA come mainly from marine sources like fish or seaweed. Unfortunately, due to global warming, these compounds are becoming scarce for humans because of overfishing and stock reduction. Although increasing in recent years, aquaculture appears insufficient to meet the increasing requirements of these healthy molecules for humans. One alternative resides in the cultivation of microalgae, the initial producers of EPA and DHA. They are also rich in biochemicals with interesting properties. After defining macro and microalgae, this review synthesizes the current knowledge on n-3 PUFAs regarding health benefits and the challenges surrounding their supply within the environmental context. Microalgae n-3 PUFA production is examined and its synthesis pathways are discussed. Finally, the use of EPA and DHA in food and feed is investigated. This work aims to define better the issues surrounding n-3 PUFA production and supply and the potential of microalgae as a sustainable source of compounds to enhance the food and feed of the future. 相似文献
